Grade: 1st Grade
WIDA Level: 2
WIDA standard: WIDA Standard 2007: English Language Proficiency Standard 2: English
language learners communicate information, ideas, and concepts necessary for academic
success in the content area of Language Arts
Purpose: To assess what the student has learned about leisure activities commonly found in
the United States.
Language Objectives: Students will read various phrases explaining different leisure activities
and will match them to the corresponding pictures. Students will have to comprehend the
phrases and use the content to accurately choose an image that fits the phrase.
Content Objectives: SOL 1.10: The student will read and demonstrate comprehension of a
variety of nonfiction texts.
d) Identify text features such as pictures, headings, charts, and captions.
Directions:
Read the sentence on the card and match it with the activity on the pictures. Move the sentence
and place it under the picture. 2 points each
Example:

Picture:

Phrase: A man is walking his dog outside.

Assessment items: each sentence will be cut into individual strips so the students an move it
to the corresponding picture.

They are playing with a frisbee (at the park).


A woman is rock climbing indoors.
The kids are making a snowman.
They are playing on the playground.
A man is playing golf outside.
A boy is riding a bike.
The kids are playing in the swimming pool.
