The Genius
of Steel
Along with the Egyptian
Pyramids, the Eiffel Tower in Paris
is one of the most fascinating
building constructions in history.
Built for the Centennial Exposition
of 1889 to commemorate the
French Revolution, the actual erection of the Tower which, at 300
metres, was then the highest in the
world initially caused a storm of
protest.
Nowadays, nobody would
dream of not admiring this stunning monument built as the result
of Gustave Eiffels genius.
If, however, Eiffel had not
recognised the advantages of steel
as a building material and if he
had not exploited those advantages this eighth wonder of the
world would never have succeeded. Nor would it have made such
a permanent impression. The Eiffel
Tower was to become the symbol
of the Industrial Age.
It is in the spirit of Gustave
Eiffels ideas that we should approach open lattice metal gratings. A
grating is nothing less than a number of holes connected by metal
strips to form an extremely stable
surface.
So why did we bring up the
Eiffel Tower when on the topic of
gratings, you may be asking?
The answer: you will find Meiser gratings in the Eiffel Tower. Not that you
would exactly stumble across them!

The Functional
Advantage
The functional advantages
of grating are much more versatile
than you may think. Starting with a
very firm surface. Compared to the
amount of material that goes into
them, gratings have an incredibly
high statical quality.
A further advantage is that

The Cost
Advantage
Lets talk about costs or,
as the economists would say, the
required cash input. Costs are usually discussed in relation to their
benefit. How much money must I
invest and what will I get out of it?
Is there a comparable alternative
at more favourable conditions?
One purely functional benefit is that of a very firm floor surface. To achieve the same statical
values with other materials or other
designs, you would have to invest
considerably more in the first
place.
Creative architects and civil
engineers often arrive at surprisingly affordable solutions simply by
using the otherwise unusual
material of grating. And we at
Meiser in consultation with you,
of course always enjoy devising
these solutions and translating
them into reality.
Since we see ourselves as
a service oriented problem solving
company, we think and act in the
best business management and
cost oriented interest of our customers. Unfortunately or, perhaps,
fortunately we are not always the
cheapest supplier on the market.
Meiser Grating is a top-quality
name-brand product. From planning to delivery, we set the highest
possible standards on our products. Yes, you may get grating a
few Euros cheaper elsewhere but
one thing is sure: you wont find
better.

The values shown have been calculated for
maximum admissible load rating (deflection
1/200) on the basis of a load carrying area of
200 x 200 mm and a bearing bar spacing of
33.3 mm. To avoid trip up points the maximum deflection should not exceed 4 mm.
Please note the
coloured nominal line.
* Support width =
clearance between the supports.

Press Welded
Gratings
Meiser press welded gratings are produced from steel. The
bearing bars and the twisted
square cross bars are cut to grating size before the cross bars are
locked into the bearing bars at a
pressure of 1000 kN and simultaneously electrically welded with
2500 KVA. into one unit.
In combination with welded
cross bars, bearing bars make for
high torsion rigidity.
Press welded gratings are
banded with flat bars which, as a
rule, will be the same dimension as
the bearing bar.
In addition to our standard
press-welded gratings, we offer
offshore grating (O-SP-SS) and
gratings with perforated sheet,
details of which you will find on
p42.

The values shown have been calculated for
maximum admissible load rating (deflection
1/200) on the basis of a load carrying area of
200 x 200 mm and a bearing bar spacing of
30mm. To avoid trip up points the maximum deflection should not exceed 4 mm.
Please note the
coloured nominal line.
Note:
We recommend that gratings used for
vehicular access are constructed from
4/5 mm bearing bar thicknesses.
* Support width =
clearance between the rests.

Comb grating
Comb gratings are enclosed pressure locked gratings, with
cross bars which protrude above
the surface of the grating. The
cross bars are pressed into the
notched bearing bars on center-tocenter spacings of 11.1 mm, 16.65
mm and 22.2 mm. The standard
spacing between the bearing bars
is 100 mm, but can be varied to
suit the end users loading requirements. The gratings are designed
for pedestrian access.
Meiser comb gratings are
suitable for various applications:
Facades, such as sun screens,
drainage channels and air grills; As
ventilation grilles used in air conditioning and heating engineering,
on inlet and outlet elements of air
conditioning and heating units; As
covers for overflow channels, in
swimming pools.
Comb gratings of the type
linear are available in steel, aluminium and stainless steel. Other
types are available in aluminium.

Barefoot gratings
The thing is, though, there
are shoeless areas where grating
can come in quite handy at
swimming pools, for instance.
Reason enough for Meiser to
develop a grating which is even
kind to the bare foot!
Bearing bar measurement
30 x 2 mm up to 60 x 2 mm
30 x 3 mm up to 60 x 3 mm
The cross bar is a flat-pressed U-shaped banding. The clearance between these treads is
around 14 mm or 6 mm.
They can be manufactured
in steel, galvanised or powder coated.
Tree gratings
Meiser tree gratings are
basically press locked gratings.
Tree gratings can be seamlessly built into pavements and
thus increase the area available to
pedestrians. These gratings enable
trees to be given a superior
maintenance, ventilation and watering service. They even protect the
tree roots.

Finned gratings
Finned gratings are both
decorative and practical. Which is
why they are suitable for many different of purposes.
As a rule, they are used as
ventilation covers for underfloor
convection heating system and as
overflow channels at swimming
pools.
In our finned gratings we
have replaced the cross bar with a
pipe.
The standard form comes
without edging, however if required it can be supplied with edging.
In both cases the ends of the pipes
are left open to ensure a maximum
corrosion resistance.
Finned gratings can be
supplied in a variety of material,
profile and colour. The bearing
bars can be produced also with SP
anti-skid material.

Fence gratings
Fences
Robust and with a whole
range of interesting design possibilities, ultra-gratings are an excellent alternative for use as fencing
in the garden, on the building site
or as a crowd barrier in football
stadiums.
Whether you choose the
zinc plated option or any of the
usual RAL colours, Meiser gratings
are both durable and aesthetically
pleasing. The bearing bars are
configured vertically parallel to the
fence posts. Different mesh spacing options permit different fence
designs.
Fence planks are Ultra-gratings, in which the filler bars are

Engineering
and service
When you consider the
exact definition of Engineering
and Service, it soon becomes
clear why we at Meiser link the two
words. Service means more to us
than just a friendly relationship
with the customer. To us, service
means offering our customers the
highest quality in addition to the
most cost effective product with a
delivery timescale to match our
customers expectations.
All this begins with Meiser
offering you a truly extensive planning service. The idea is actually
quite simple. As grating specialists, we like to think we can plan a
grating application quicker and
better than a planner who only
deals occasionally with grating or,
possibly, not at all.
We are always doubly inspired when asked to solve unusual
problems. In other words, we dont
just adapt your ideas to our facilities; we use our capabilities to find
new solutions.
We see new problems not
just as an interesting engineering
challenge but also as a chance to
improve ourselves as a company
and to evolve further.
Provide us with a challenge.
Make our day!
