Title: Art Presentation

Date: Fall 2015
Artifact Description:
The following artifact is a presentation I was required to do for an art appreciation class that I
took at the community college I went to. The purpose of the presentation was to teach the class
about a famous artist or architect. The presentation was about Frank Gehry, a well-known
architect, it included his biography and the different structures that he created. I presented this to
my class to teach them about Frank Gehry and the things that he created.
ALIGNMENT
Wisconsin Teacher Standard Alignment
This experience best aligns with standard six of the Wisconsin Teacher Development and
Licensure Standards which states: The teacher uses effective verbal and nonverbal
communication techniques as well as instructional media and technology to foster active inquiry,
collaboration, and supportive interaction in the classroom. This experience best aligns with
standard six because the power point shows that during my presentation I was able to verbally
present. I was also able to use media communication also during my power point presentation to
show what I was talking about. Communication theory, language development, and the role of
language in learning reflected the grade that I received on the presentation. All of these things are
very important for children in education because each child learns in a different way.
UW-Platteville School of Education Knowledge, Skill, Disposition Statement Alignment
This experience best aligns with KSD3.a. of the UWP School of Education Knowledge, Skill,
and Disposition statements which states: The candidates spoken and written language are
correct, expressive and clear, with well-chosen vocabulary that enriches teaching and
communicates thoughtfully, responsively, and effectively for a wide range of student
understanding and encourages appropriate student language development. This experience best
aligns with this standard because during my presentation I spoke clearly and correctly. My power
point was very well put together and I used written language correctly. As I was giving the
presentation I knew my peers understood what I was saying and that they had more knowledge
on the architect that I was presenting. I was able to use my power point as a tool to make the
information more understandable.
Secondary Alignment:
KSD3.c. Engaging Students in Learning
KSD2.c. Managing Classroom Procedures
REFLECTION:
What I learned about teaching/learning:
I learned that it is importation for teachers to communicate effectively in order for their students
to really understand what is going on and get the correct information. It also important that

teachers understand how to use technology and media in their teaching to keep the students
interested in the information. Students retain more information when the teachers use different
teachings styles because every student learns differently.
What I learned about myself as prospective educator:
I learned that I need to use all forms of communication with students and a variety of teaching
methods to fulfill the needs of all my students. A variety of different teaching methods is
effective for students because some might have a different learning style but yet they still learn
because the teacher uses different teaching methods. I will work hard to use technology in my
classroom in a variety of different teaching methods so I will be able to reach to as many
students as I can.
