Vaccine Reflection

The last assignment involved making an argument for a controversial topic. I

chose to make an argument against vaccines because I felt there were more points
to state my argument. The entire assignment involved a written paper along with
another form of media or multimodal rhetoric. I used the flu and chicken pox
vaccine as my main points since they are more general forms of immunization.
Other vaccines such as polio is required along with some other vaccines preventing
diseases. The target audience of this essay would be parents with younger children
because it can be a tough decision on whether or not to get your kids vaccinated.
The purpose of the essay was to point out reasons to not get vaccines for the flu,
chicken pox, and other illnesses.
For this controversy, I could have taken either side but I learned it was
difficult to argue against vaccines. I did research on the topic and found several
reasons supporting the same side as me but I had little to expand on. This paper
evolved from the rough draft to the final draft because I changed my topic. I
originally was going to write about the election but changed because I wasnt sure
how I would incorporate the multimodal aspect of the assignment. So the rough
draft and the final draft had two different ideas. The only strategies I used to write
my paper was research and peer editing. Despite the difficulty, I had making my
argument, I found these strategies to be very effective.
This artifact represents my development as a writer because it displays
everything I learned throughout the semester. The entire project was created
because the first thing I had to do was come up with a controversial topic and then
decide on what I would argue for. The entire assignment took a lot of work because
I had to include the multimodal part of the assignment. The last assignment made

me implement what I learned from the first two assignments. This assignment was
different from the others because the multimodal aspect was already applied in the
first two assignments and we just had to write the paper. I think I benefited from
writing the previous papers because I learned different aspects of writing for each
assignment.
