Impact of Jet

Introduction:

The study of reaction force exerted on the fluid when its

pumped of the jet is essential in designing many devices such as
The Water Jet for cutting as well as many hydraulic machinery
such as the Pelton wheel and impulse turbine.

Apparatus:

1. Impact of jet apparatus (Figure 1).

2. Hydraulic bench.

Procedures:
1. Set up the device and calibrate its spring with weights and label them as the datum for all
the steps.
2. Choose the vane of 45 degrees , 90 degrees , and 135 degrees.
3. For the 45 degrees; start the pump, put a counter weight so it goes back to the datum,
empty the pool and measure the time for it to be filled with a specific amount of water,
increase the speed of the pump as well as the counter weights, and take notes.
4. Do the previous step for the 90 and 135.
5. Take the reading for every vane by placing additional weights to the device to measure the
force; do it for all the vanes.
6. Table the reading for each set in excel sheet , plot them, get the best line and calculate
the desired values.
