Held at De La Salle University, Dasmarinas, Cavite October 25, 2016 Introduction One of the parameters of development is the mobilization of different economic forces. The private sector consisting of business establishments and the academe which prepares the pool of future labor force are the two essential components of the same. However, problem arises when the needs of each two major forces do not meet each other standards. The problem of employment mismatch arises. It happens when the needs of the industry do not match the skills and trainings by the academe. Now, it is a recognized fact that the advent of ASEAN integration is inevitable. The opening of the doors among global neighbours in ASEAN region will bring both benefits and challenges. It would be beneficial to the country for it would open many opportunities both in trade and commerce, and labor market supply. Nevertheless, the same would require intensive preparation for the Philippines to become equally competitive or even surpass its global competitors both in trade and labor force. The Philippines being one of the center of such diffusion will definitely open many opportunities to Filipinos. Objectives 1. To find out the current trends and the demands of the different industries which would help to set new standards in trainings and preparation of the academe; 2. To establish linkages with the said industries and other academic institutions to fully equipped the students of the necessary skills needed in their future career; and 3. To find out other programs of the different government agencies that would be beneficial to our academic institution, faculty and student development. Activities The delegation from the Laguna State Polytechnic University- Sta. Cruz Main Campus arrived at around 8:30 in the morning. The delegation was headed by the Universitys Vice-President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Mario C. Pasion, and together with the participants from different Colleges of the University. At the beginning of the seminar, the delegates from the different sectors and academe were welcomed by the Officials of the De La Salle University Dasmarinas, Cavite through Bro. Augustine Boquer.
The welcome message was followed by providing the background of the
summit and presentation of delegates from the different sectors. Several lectures followed from the different head government agencies in the region. During the lecture, several issues were pointed out relating to ASEAN integration. It was discussed by the representative of the Assistant Secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry that Tourism and manufacturing industry, including the sector of BPOs and information technology will prosper in years to come. Therefore, advising the academe to strengthen their programs in hotel and management tourism, industrial technology and computer science. On the other note, the Department of Trade and Industry encouraged the business sector to enter the manufacturing industry, and the government gave emphasis that it is now concentrating in manufacturing being now as one the primary mover of the economy. The Executive Director Elmer K. Talavera of the Technical and Skills Development Authority, emphasized the essence of National Certification being the globally recognized certification. It was proposed that the academic sector must concentrate in equipping the student technical skills and capabilities in preparation of passing and acquiring National Certifications. After the several lectures, there was an open forum. Members of the academe asked the TESDA representative to adopt a program called TESDA NOW, PAY LATER, considering that most of the students especially in the public universities are financially incapable. The representative from TESDA responded that they are currently studying such proposal and how to effectively implement the same. The second part of the program focused on the identifying the areas for Academe Industry Linkages Collaboration. The participants were assigned to different breakout groups, namely: Automotive; electronics; IT and BPM; Tourism; and Agriculture and Fisheries. Thereafter, a presentation by session coordinators of agreements in sector breakout sessions followed. Then, there we had the signing of manifesto of commitment in strengthening ties between academe, public and the private sectors. Finally, closing statements was delivered by Regional Director Luis G.
