Thomas Alva Edison was one of the most prolific inventors in history. Some of his
inventions the phonograph, motion picture camera, and the quintessential light bulb
have influenced life around the world. At Ignite we create the environment for trainees to
unleash their creative potential. Some of the best and brightest Ignite trainees have
opted to work in the innovation labs of TCS and pursue a career in research and
development. Several are named inventors in patent applications.

The TCS Ignite Open Lab Research Challenge

If you have a passion for research and development this challenge is for you. In this task
you have to pick a research paper from http://www.plosone.org/home.action (a peerreviewed, freely available online publication) and follow the steps:
The Challenge
Choose a subject. Identify one or more articles of your interest, read and reflect. You can
then answer the following questions.
1. Why did you choose this/these articles?

2. What did you find interesting? Articulate in your own words and cite the source
article.

3. How would you replicate or extend the published research?

4. List the references in the article you found interesting?
5. Which in your opinion is the most interesting reference cited by the author, and
why?
Scope and Effort
To complete this challenge, you must go through at least one scientific article in
published in the Public Library of Science website. The expected effort is 2 person days.
Prerequisites
Any science graduate registered in Open Ignite can attempt this challenge. Candidates
with a research bent of mind will be interested in solving the problem.

Submission Process
The questions have to be answered in order. Remember to cite the article in the
document. The document with answers can be in .doc, .txt or pdf format.
