TRAIT THEORY OF LEADERSHIP:

According to this theory, people are born with certain character traits and other people see
them a born leader. Traits like intelligence, self-confidence, determination of a leader and
such are mainly focused.
Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi has various traits like self-confidence, charisma of a
leader, excellent oratorical skills, and quick decision making ability.
His self-confidence can be seen in the way he speaks, his tone. His body language always
shows his charisma and his self-confidence is evident in it. When the body language of
Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi were compared during elections then the posture of
Narendra Modi is stable with confidence and hand movements were used while Rahul
Gandhi often leans to one of his legs probably indicating a lack of stability.
His quick decision making ability is evident in the surgical strikes the Indian army conducted
recently. Narendra Modi always reacts according to the situation, he tried for diplomatic
relations with Pakistan but when it didnt worked and when it is a matter of national interests
he reacted well.

Trait theory of leadership differentiates leaders from non leaders by focusing on

personal qualities and characteristics.

Trait theory of leadership sought personality, social, physical and intellectual traits.
Trait theory assumes that leaders are born.

Behavioral theory:
According to Behavioural theory of leadership, the behaviour of a person is the best indicator
of his leadership influence and so his influence determines the leadership success.
What leadership boils down to people? Whatever is the style, whatever is the method, they
need to believe in themselves, their ideas and their staff. Nobody can be successful alone
and you cannot be a great leader without great people to lead.
Abraham Lincoln led by example. He did not force things. He took the decision of everyone
and does what he needs to do and by doing so he inspires his followers. As a young man Mr.
Lincoln had witnessed the slave system and after he became the president he tried to
eliminate it to the fullest and so acted accordingly and the result is emancipation
proclamation in which all slaves held are henceforth declared free.

Of course, there will be times when strong and decisive leadership is necessary, to make sure
the right moves are made. If the leader place the emphasis on getting the little things right,
and address the everyday problems that come up, they can encourage a culture of attention to
detail. You can also have a lot of fun with these relatively tiny issues, whether its dealing
personally with customers complaints as via email or surprising the front-line staff with a
visit.
Contingency theory:
Compared to behavioural theory which narrowly focuses on the leadership style, the
contingency theory includes effects of contingent factors such as leader's behaviours,
follower's behaviours and other situational variables. This theory argues that there is no one
right way of leading and that a leader must adjust their style depending on the context.
According to Fiedler's contingency theory, a leaders effectiveness is determined by below
things:
Example: Steve jobs

Leader's Power: The extent to which the leader has power for the purpose of
influencing and getting the task completed.

Relationship between leaders and followers: The extent to which leader has support
and loyalty of followers.

Task Structure: The extent to which the task is clearly specified to goals, methods and
performance standards.

Fred Fiedler's contingency model focused on a contingency model of leadership of David

Cameron. This model contains the relationship between leadership style and the favorableness of the situation. Situational favorable-ness was described by Fiedler in terms of three
empirically derived dimensions:
1. Leader's position power high, there is a great deal of authority and power are
formally attributed to the leader's position of David Cameron.
2. Leader-member relationship high, because he was the leader accepted and respected
by followers.

3. Degree of task structure low, the task was much unstructured in Government.

Integrity leadership:
It is an emerging leadership approach that brings good from various existing models like trait,
characteristics and behaviours of individuals, and also practices in major sectors of society
business, government, non-profits, media and community.
SENIOR NTR:
This theory can be best suitable to the Sr.NTR, He is a civil service officer turned to Telugu
film actor and later he entered in to politics and served as the chief minister of andhrapradesh
for three terms. After getting elected in 1983 his first legislation was the passing of Andhra
Pradesh up a look pal and he also introduced rs.2 per kg rice for the poor people this shows
that he has kept his promises with the people after elections and his the leader is more
responsible and accountable to the people and he is more respectable to all the people.
The leaders of innovative organizations that undergo the uncertainty that comes with change,
would be wise to promote both integrity and empathy internally, thus ensuring that zeal
continues to inspire consumers throughout their tenure and for years to come.

Path-Goal Theory
This theory is based on specifying a leaders style of behaviour that best fits the employee
and the work environment in order to achieve a goal.
Managers of Government institutions often falls under this type of leadership because
management in government institutions cannot be done in the same way as in a private
organization. It requires a different style of management.

Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose falls under this type of theory because his style of fighting
against British involved what best fits the environment. His alliance with japan and Germany
are indicators of this type of leadership.
Path-Goal Theory is not a detailed process, it generally follows these basic steps:

Select a leadership style

Determine the employee and environmental characteristics

Focus on motivational factors that will help the employee succeed

Application:
The independent variables of Path-Goal Theory are the leaders' behavior, thus the pathgoal
theory assumes that people are flexible in that they can change their behavior or style,
depending upon the situation.
This coincides with the research that while nature may be our internal guide, nurture is our
explorer that has the final say in what we do.
