A FIELD VISIT REPORT


ON
GUIDANCE, PROGRAM AND SERVICES

In Partial Fulfilment for the requirements in GC 101-Basic Guidance and Counselling in

I.

Introduction
Guidance Counselling covers to correct human behaviour to act with ethical
norms, those problems of the human being in daily life which become severe and
tend to be a suicidal action when the guidance counsellor didnt act immediately.
In preparing for counselling you will acquire knowledge about assessments,
intervention techniques, and dynamics of human behaviour and also the theories
of personality.
For every school having a guidance program is very important, it gives you
services that the students, teachers, and parents will benefit a lot. This program
offers assistance for everyone who needed guidance in every situation that they
are experiencing. Every program has their mission, vision and goals that set to
help everyone emotionally, and spiritually, they can help them to know your
abilities, strength and weaknesses that can be an advantage to know where you
can excel on things that you are good at especially they can guide you in making
a better decision in your life. Counsellors design and implement a comprehensive
guidance program that assists all students in their effort to be academically,
vocationally, and personally ready for success in an every changing world .

Objectives
1. To know the different guidance services and program of the school
2. To know how the guidance counsellor overcome all the cases
3. To know if the services and program are effective.

Data Gathered
1. Personal Background
Fernando Airbase Highschool is a public school that is located in
Lipa,Batangas. Their guidance program is the one that we interviewed, Mr. Milner
C. Lacorte is 21 years of age and currently in his 8 years of service to this school.
By 2011, he acquired full time employee. He became a guidance counsellor
because he is appointed by the former guidance counsellor even though he dont
have a license. He became a guidance counsellor. He is a teacher of values and
education that serve as an advantage to help him more to be a effective

counsellor. Since his not a graduate of a psychology degree, his using more or
relay more to his experiences in doing his job.
2. Guidance Program and Services
The background of the guidance program in terms of counselling services is they
have NCEA profiling, discussion of the result and at the same time they conduct
orientation especially for the grade 11 and 12. With the help of the teachers in ESP
they conduct programs for the guidance counselling. In terms of services they offer
individual and group counselling, the other program is focus on spiritual achievement
of students. They conduct programs that can help the students to improve spiritually.
Also, they conduct programs every October to join in praying the holy rosary at the
same time. They attend the mass every first Friday of the month to encourage
students to actively participate in the church activities
For senior high it is focus merely in guiding them in their career path and by
providing an orientation. For junior highschool program, they tied up in the discipline
committee whenever their encounter problems because they are the one that put an
actions such cases as bullying and sharing problems, after the committee settle the
problem the counsellor takes place to guide or explain the situation to the involve
person.
IV.

Report Summary

Fernando Airbase Highschool like all other schools has an effective guidance
programs. They are sole on prioritizing spiritual values and fellowship between
individuals and the students. Their program must put into practice not only on
different schools but also to different organizations and institution.
The objective of the report has been responded all through the interviews done
by the field visitors.
First objective is to know the different guidance services and program of the
school. They offer spiritual activities like monthly mass, Annual Holy Rosary prayer
meeting, Career-path orientation among Senior Students and sharing of issues like
bullying and other matters to Juinor students.
Second objective is to know how the guidance counsellor overcome all the
cases. It is through own experience despite of having a non-licensed counsellor.
They fully believed that the values of the counsellor is a great capital of effective
counselling.
Third objective is to know if the services and programs are effective. By simply
visiting their school and how we see their students engaged with right manner and
conducts. We may conclude that their guidance program is effective.

V.

Insights

As a counsellor, experience is more important but also we need a knowledge in


different theories. In some schools, a guidance counsellor is not licensed yet
sometimes appointed by the school principal and make him/her an instrument to use
their experiences.
Counselling is an intimate form of learning which we need to become an genuine
person in building rapport. It is within the context of such a person to person
connection that the client experience grows. If we hide behind tour own role,
students will likely keep from us and as a result there will be an ineffective
counselling.
In giving guidance services and program in the school they have a school
calendar to follow and not only the guidance counsellor do all things but with the
help of all faculty teachers the guidance services and program are effectively finish.

Recommendations
1. Early planning to have a more time in preparation of the program to have
an effective program and less hassle.
2. Have an annual orientation about Guidance Counseling and its programs
to avoid misinterpretation of discipline and guidance.
3. Proper training of non-licensed guidance counsellor for them to have a
broader knowledge about counselling.
