On Implementing Oracle MOC with Industrial Automation

For Real Time Shop Floor & Plant Performance Visibility

Oracle Manufacturing Operations Center provides a wide range of options to collect shop floor data
directly from Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Systems
(SCADA) and Distributed Control Systems (DCS).
Oracles Manufacturing Operations Center (OMOC) is a manufacturing intelligence solution aimed at
measuring exactly what needs to be managed. It is a standalone solution that delivers real time
operational intelligence with its own S95-based data model (separate from ERP). Architected to be ERP
agnostic, it is designed as a unified plant data repository with integration to ERP, MES, data historian,
SCADA and other types of shop-floor systems. Oracle Manufacturing Operations Center is a pre-built,
flexible and extensible solution that provides a robust contextualization rules engine to convert raw
shop-floor data into meaningful business information based on pre-built key performance indicators and
analytics.
Real Time integration for plant managers
Oracle Manufacturing Operations Center enables Plant managers and Production supervisors to monitor
production performance in real time through pre-built analytical dashboards and reports. It gives the
comprehensive understanding of KPIs such as production throughput, equipment availability, overall
equipment effectiveness (OEE), and production cycle times. Even drill down capacity to the detailed
equipment and production order data to perform root cause analysis, enabling you to answer questions
such as:

What type of production losses contributed to overall equipment effectiveness?

Which departments, resources and equipment are underperforming?
Are the resources being utilized effectively?
Are the products of acceptable quality standard?

Extensible Role-Based dashboard

Role-based dashboard can be configured from these measures to foster focused manufacturing. These
seeded plant manager dashboard has tools to track the following metrics:

Asset performance (OEE) by plant, department and equipment: OEE is a product of machine
availability, machine performance and first pass yield. It summarizes the current state of the plant and
helps in benchmarking operations against other companies and divisions.
Batch performance: Measures work order quantity variance, PPM trend, batch cycle time trend, and
service level performance
Production performance: Measures production schedule performance by department and equipment
MOC uses ISA-95 standard for defining equipment hierarchies. Shop-floor data is collected as tags using
3rd party OPC servers (from companies like Kepware, ILS, and Matrikon) and other 3rd party solutions.
With Kepwares KepServer, for example, a Channel is a group of shop-floor equipment, and each data
collection point (pressure, temperature, vibrations, etc.) for equipment is defined as a tag. Each tag is
mapped to a database table-field in MOC. Data on each tag can be collected at a user-defined
frequency.

Why MOC?
MOC is built for quick deployment and adoption. It is advisable to start MOC deployment with a
controlled scope (a cell or a line in a plant) and expand gradually to cover the production landscape.
If you are currently operating Oracles manufacturing solution, you can immediately
Benefit from the Oracle Manufacturing Operations Center through its pre-packaged
Oracle E-Business Suite adapter. The adapter is designed to periodically collect
key master and reference data for objects such as Shift, Items, Item Hierarchies,
Resources, Resource Hierarchies, Production Schedule, linked sales order lines and
Cost,
The
adapter
supports
Discrete,
Flow
and
Process
Manufacturing.
Seeing all these functionality its clear that it is the potent enough solution for all the shop floor
intelligence related issues.
