Pressure Reducing Valve

DP 17
Description :
DP 17 is a Cast Iron pilot operated pressure reducing
valve suitable for steam or compressed air.
Note : For Steam - IBR/NIBR, For Air - NIBR.

Available Sizes & Pipe

Connections :
15 L.C., 15, 20, 25, 40 & 50 NB
Screwed : BSP/ NPT : For 15 L.C.
15, 20 & 25 NB
Flanged : BS 10 Table F & H for 40 and 50 NB

Limiting Conditions :
2

PMO-Max. allowable Pressure=13.00 kg/cm

0
TMO- Max. allowable Temperature = 220 C. Cold
2
hydraulic test pressure = 26.00 kg/cm springs as per
requirements.
Yellow : 0.2 Bar to 3.0 Bar
Blue
: 2.5 Bar to 7.0 Bar
Red
: 6.0 Bar to 13.0 Bar

Pressure Sensing Pipe :

The DP 17 controls the pressure by sensing the
downstream pressure through a pressure sensing
pipe taken to the union (item 29) or through the
internal sensing pipe ( item 19). Fitting of the external
pressure sensing pipe is described in the Installation
and Maintenance Instructions supplied with valve.
Note : Capacity is reduced and there is a possibility of
hunting if an external pressure sensing pipe is not
fitted.

Installation :
The valve should be installed in a horizontal pipeline
with direction of flow as indicated by the arrow on the
valve body. Full instructions are supplied in the
Installation and Maintenance Instructions.

Dimensions : (approximate) in mm.

Capacity Chart for Steam DP 17 :

How to use Chart :

The use of the capacity chart can be explained by two
examples, one for saturated and one for superheated
steam.

Steam Capacities in Metric Units :

Saturated Steam :
Required a valve to pass 500 kg/h reducing from 6 bar
to 4 bar. Find a point at which curved 6 bar upstream
pressure line crosses horizontal 4 bar downstream
pressure line. A perpendicular dropped from this point
gives the capacities of all sizes under these
conditions. A 40 NB valve is the smallest size which
will carry the required load.

Superheated Steam :
Because of the higher specific volume of superheated
steam a correction factor must be applied to the figure
0
obtained from this chart. For 55 C. of superheat the
0
factor is 0.95 and for 110 C. of superheat it is 0.9.
Using the example given for saturated steam, the 40
NB valve would pass 1150 x 0.95 = 1092 kg/ h if the
0
steam had 55 C. of superheat. It is still big enough to
pass the required load of 500 kg/h.
Special versions of these valve having soft main
valves for use on compressed air are available
subject to special quotation.

Capacity Chart for Compressed Air

DP 17

How to use Chart :

Capacities are given in cubic decimeters to free air
3
per second (dm /s). The use of the capacity chart can
be best explained by an example.
3
Required, a valve to pass 500 dm /s of free air
reducing from 6 bar to 4 bar. Find the point at which
the curved 6 bars upstream pressure line crosses the
horizontal 4 bar downstream pressure line. A
perpendicular dropped form this point shows that a
3
40 NB valve will pass 475 dm /s and is therefore not
3
large enough. A 50 NB will pass about 650 dm /s
under these conditions is the correct size.
