PROCEDURE

Introduction
Recall the end of the lesson on Tuesday when we discussed proper
pluralization. Recall that we discussed the apostrophe and that we would be
talking about it's proper use later in the week.
It is now later in the week and we're going to go over the proper use of
apostrophes.

Topic: Apostrophe
Rules

Body
1) Remind students what an apostrophe looks like on the
white board: Boy Boy's
2) Explain and record the rules of apostrophe use for
possession
Juju's book the book belongs to Juju
Richard's pencil the pencil belongs to Richard
Plural possession
The Teachers' cars the cars that belong to the
teachers at the school.
The Smiths' daughters the daughters of the Smith
family
'Its' is the proper possessive term if we are talking about
a noun
ie The dog has many spots. Its spots are mostly black
This is because using an apostrophe in this case
indicates a contraction.
Show this on the board and tell them that we will
talk about contractions in another lesson.
