Boot philosophy

52-53 56-57
Bootlegs
•52-53 and 56-57 are “Bootlegs,” meaning we are going to fake
a run in one direction, and roll the QB opposite the fake! These
are excellent plays against LBs who overpursue against our
best running plays!
•All receivers use the same route rules for all 50 series passes
(Post, Over, Pin Flat, Go Pocket)! Frontside receivers are those
lined up to the side of the fake (right on even last digits such as
52 and 56, left on odd last digits); Backside recievers are those
aligned away from the fake even though the QB will be working
in their direction!
•52-53 is a fake of the 42-43 Zone play! QB & FB will carry out a
great 42-43 fake! All linemen will REACH to the call!
•56-57 is a fake of the 16-17 Trey play! QB R will carry out a
great 16-17 fake! All linemen except FSG & FST will REACH to
the call! FSG pulls and “logs” the backside End, while the FST
executes a Punch technique!

KEYS to a successful play:

• Linemen PREVENT PENETRATION across the board! •‘Stay’ call for Pin
• PIN ARROW is patient and handles the BSDE before releasing! •‘Comeback/Double Comebk

Over Drag
in Trips in Trips

QB: Understand that you have no “PIN ARROW” security to

the side you’re booting (which is why we normally run it as
56-57, to give you a pulling G escort), so you have to snap
your head around extra quick with the idea of breaking
contain immediately (if EMOL closes) or pulling up quickly
inside an upfield rush. The Drag essentially takes the place
of the Pin Arrow in your progression. Throw to him if he’s
open, based on eye contact; work the Over if he’s invaded
from behind, the Comeback if invaded from outside.

51 TRAP PASS v. “Split” FS TE: ROUTE as called by name.

1 TRAP PASS BASICS

*On the Frontside, responsibilites for GAPS and DEFENDERS are
M S R basically the same as 16-17; FST has B gap, FSG A gap, C
backside A gap. Someone from the frontside will be responsible
for BSLB if he shows in either A gap!
2 E T T E *On the BACKSIDE, assignments generally mirror 46-47. BSG
pulls for FS EMOL, BS T & TE ‘Punch’ to their inside Gap & then
hinge back.
*1st step for everyone but BSG is an inside POWER STEP!
*The only thing that beats this protection is PENETRATION. To
stop penetration, all linemen must:
•“Punch” 1. CUT SPLITS to 12-18 inches squeeze the gaps down
Come under control as you •Hinge back with 2. KEEP SHOULDERS SQUARE
