Pedagogy

1. Anticipatory Set:
How do you get them
interested?
(Introduction/Engageme
nt)

The focus of this activity is to provide

students with the benefits and importance of
maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The
anticipatory set I would use to capture my
students interest is a 30 sec video clip such as
kids Zumba that demonstrates kids fitness.
The video will engage my students because it
will depict a similar peer group engaging in a
healthy and fun activity.

2. The Instruction:
(Teacher
Procedure)
Describe your
step by step
procedure.
What will you do
and say?

* Provide facts with childhood obesity

3. Guided Practice:
(Student Tasks)
What will the
students do?

4. Assessment:
What will students say
or do to show you

* Inform students that by living a healthy life

style they can avoid obesity.
* Introduce brief video clip of childs Zumba
* Explain what a fitness plan is
* Model how to create a fitness plan
* Provide instructions on how to create a
personal fitness plan
* Monitor students as they access web
resources and provide input as they formulate
their individual fitness plan

The students will take notes as I model

the fitness plan
Students will find and use web resources
to research material and input into the
creation of their fitness plan

* A completed individual fitness plan that

objectives were met?

shows individual goals for strength training

and endurance.
* The plan is to be created using technology
and printed out

5. Closure:
How will you help
students make a
transition to the next
activity?

I will help students implement their individual

fitness plans during P.E. by incorporating
aspects of strength training.

Modifications:
English Learners,
Students with
Exceptional Needs or
Instructional Challenges

Enrichment:
How could you
extend learning
and foster further
inquiry beyond
this lesson?
Reflection:
How will your
assessment guide
your teaching
practice?
Is there a better
way to teach this
material?

To accommodate English learners I will use

modeling and pictorial examples. To
accommodate students with exceptional
needs or instructional challenges, I will refer
to their IEP plans and goals and modify the
assignment on an individual as needed basis.
An extension to this lesson would be to have
students create a nutrition plan.

Students will write a paragraph reflecting on

their experience in
Using technology to research and write their
individualized fitness plans.
Although there are many other ways to teach
this material it is my premise that this method
will most benefit my students and maintain a
high level of interest.
