Smart Goal Setting Lesson Plan

Activity: Defining and Creating Smart Goals


Grade(s): 7 - 8
Learning Objective(s):
1. Students will be defining what a S.M.A.R.T Goal is
2. Students will learn about importance of setting goals
3. Students will create Academic goals and objectives for the school year
Materials:
- Smart Goals Handout (online)
- Chromebook (Provided by school)
Procedure:
1. Begin lesson by asking the question what is a SMART Goal?.
2. Have an open discussion with students about SMART Goals.
3. Ask students to log onto Google classroom and view Goal Setting
Presentation via google slides
4. Go through goal setting presentation on computer with student. When
reaching final slide (5), stop and give directions to review goal setting online
form.
5. Via google forms, students will complete goal setting form and submit to
Google classroom
6. Proctor discussion: Each student will read allowed one of their created
SMART Goals.
7. As a group, student will discuss created goals and brainstorm effective
measure to help reach goals.
8. Student will use Google classroom to answer the question, How will you
reach these goal? Write a plan for meeting your goals.
9. Discuss answers and conclude advisory group/lesson
