Distance Learning Facilitator Training Program Assessment Instructions

Your Distance Learning Facilitator Training Program Assessment will combine

written responses and use of the Learning Management System (LMS) you have
used throughout this training. You will have 90 minutes to complete the assessment
and your instructor will evaluate your performance. The assessment is pass/fail, and
your feedback will be shared with you upon evaluation.
Please note: If you are unsuccessful during your first attempt, your instructor
and the faculty department will work with you on a remediation plan. Upon
completion of the additional training, you will be given a second attempt of the
exam.

Please complete the learning objectives individually and in order listed below.

1. Two distance education learning theories were covered during your training.
Please open a Word document in which you will type your written response.
Please select and explain one of the learning theories. Provide at least one
example of how you would use information from this theory in your online
classes. Post a private message called Learning Theories within your
Learning Management System (LMS) with your Word document as an
attachment.
a. Possible answers to the first part of the question could be
Transformative Learning Theory and Social Constructivism.
b. Possible answers to the second part of the question need to align to
the selected theory and be a logical approach to incorporating the
information in the online environment.
2. Please navigate to the LMS used for this training. Create and post a welcome
message within the LMS to your entire class. As you draft your post, consider
your role in establishing and maintaining your online presence and engaging
your learners. There is no word count requirement.
a. Based on the training, the welcome message should introduce the
instructor and provide personal and professional information. It could
include information on what he/she hopes students will learn from the
class, specific details or experience relating to the course topic, how
he/she will engage learners or manage the classroom, it should contain
positive language, and it could ask learners to post a similar
introductory message to the class.
3. Please locate the private messages section of the LMS. You will find an
escalated student message expressing dissatisfaction with a recent
assignment grade. The students tone and use of language is inappropriate.
Reflect upon strategies to address and defuse behavioral issues while
maintaining a supportive and professional tone. Respond to the message with
two possible ways to effectively resolve the students concerns.

a. Possible responses: A response message, explaining in a professional

and non-emotional tone the reason for the grade with reassurance that
the instructor is there to support the student, an email or response
post to the student indicating that the grade is not reflective to overall
competence but is specific to that assignment and encouragement to
continue to work diligently, a response with further feedback and
directions to review the rubric and provided feedback, and/or an email
response offering to discuss the situation further over the telephone.
4. Please remain in the private messages section of the classroom. Open a new
private message and title it Supplemental Technologies. Describe two
supplemental technologies, outside of the LMS, that you could use that cater
to varied student learning styles. Please also explain how you would
incorporate them into the online classroom.
a. Possible technologies will be diverse. Some covered during the training
are Prezi, Popplet, Glogster, WikiSpaces, audioBoom, and PowerPoint
Audio.
b. The response to how instructors would incorporate into the classroom
need to logically align with varied learning styles and preferences.
5. You have identified a student who is not participating in the classroom
discussion. You post a private message to the student to address the reason
he/she is not participating. The student responds explaining that he or she is
uncomfortable with the less-structured, open discussion format, advising that
the student is not used to learning in this way. In a Word document, explain
how you would address the students concerns and encourage the student to
participate within the classroom discussion. Post your Word document as an
attachment to a new private message labeled Participation Concerns.
a. Possible responses could be that the instructor responds to the
message to acknowledge the students concerns and past learning
experiences but also encourages the student to participate, the
instructor could also respond to acknowledge past experience and
remind the student that points are associated with classroom
discussion, the instructor could respond to the student to ask if the
student would be more comfortable initially if the instructor and
student engage in classroom dialogue based on the learning activities,
the instructor could respond to request a phone call to further discuss
the students concerns and possible resolutions.

Please complete the end of course survey located through a link in your
LMS private messages section. This survey is very similar to what your
future students will complete after cessation of each of your courses.
