Lesson Plan: The Way I Feel

School Counselor: Heather Min_______________________________________ Date: 2016

Activity: Read The Way I Feel (7), feeling scenarios (10), drawing activity (5),
discussion (5)
Grade(s): K-2
ASCA Mindsets & Behaviors (Domain/Standard):
MS-1, LS-9
Learning Objective(s) (aligns with Competency):
1. Belief in development of whole self, including a healthy balance of mental,
social/emotional and physical well-being
2. Gather evidence and consider multiple perspectives to make informed
decisions
Materials: The Way I Feel, scenarios laminated, butcher paper with a human
body, construction papers
Procedure: review expectations (be respectful, raise your hand, and use kind
words). Show the human body. Point out three parts of our body (brain, heart,
and body as a whole). Explain how our body parts are all connected to each other
and each part communicates to another. Read the book. Connect the book to the
next activity. About 12 students will be able to stand in front of a feeling word.
After a student picks a scenario, he or she will read it aloud, and then will decide
which emotion he or she may feel in the situation. Partners will work together to
draw a picture to go along with the feeling. Wrap up the lesson by summarizing
the introduction again.
*** It is very interesting to see how there is no hole or gap in our body. Every bit
of our body parts are all connected to make one whole and that is why when one
part of your body gets hurt, even your brain can feel that pain. For example,
when you break a bone, it affects your whole body to feel the pain. And,
interestingly enough, that is how a community works. We are a community and
when one person is feeling hurt, we all feel that pain. Always look around you to
find out how others feel because we are one community.
Plan for Evaluation: How will each of the following be collected?

Process Data: about 280 students will participate in learning about the way they
feel in different situations and what that means in a bigger scale.
Perception Data: verbal responses
Outcome Data: None at this time
Follow Up: Review next time.
