FOREWORD
In life, everything we do involves risks. Life is not exempted of risks. For
instance, we are told by health professionals that there are so many
microorganisms in the atmosphere, which causes airborne diseases, like the
tuberculosis bacteria. The presence of these TB bacteria puts every living
thing prone to contract TB through breathing. Meaning even breathing in and
out is risky.
Dangers are in every area of life and despite such dangers; we wake up
every morning, defying the odds and move about in doing our daily errands
through risking. Theres no area of life exempted of risks. Risks are high in
every type of travel, but there are dangers in staying home too. Theres risk in
eating food as much as theres risk in not eating food. The risk is an obvious
part of livelihood of every living creature, therefore, that which forces you to
risk or the actions you take against what is risky is what makes winners win,
conquerors conquer and achievers achieve, it is the Risk Factor.
The Scripture says we walk by faith and not by sight in this life.
Therefore, taking chances requires some blind trust in most cases. Nothing is
really guaranteed, thus, we have to trust and do things by faith.
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not
seen. Hebrews 11:1
The concept or philosophy explained in the portion of scripture above is
purely a Risk Factor thought. The Risk Factor is a product of Faith. You
cannot claim to have faith and then not act on what you expect and hope for.
Faith builds a state of surety of what you are hoping for and makes you
certain of things you have not yet seen, hence you launch and act on what you
want by risking in faith. Many times our intuitions lead us down an unknown
path while inside we have so much conviction and surety that something big is

on the other side. Because of that we become unstoppable and invincible,

defying the odds of risks cutting through with hope for better things.
This book is written to bring illumination and understanding to the reader
on the subject of personal risking and the benefits of the Risk Factor in life.
The thoughts illustrated in this publication are based on the Biblical point of
view in dealing with personal achievements. After you have read this book, I
dare you to go for whatever it is you want but you have been dodging. You'll
never know what you can accomplish until you do something you've never
done before. When you exercise taking risks you'll step into some of your
greatest rewards of life. If you ever want to achieve the life you've always
dreamed of, you need to understand the Risk Factor and then start taking
positive risks. As you do so, always bear in mind that it is absolutely
necessary to take chances to achieve anything great in life. Take the leap of
faith and do not be like many others who are afraid to risk for things they
desire.
Mark Zuckerberg says, The biggest risk is not taking any risk... In a
world that is changing really quickly, the only strategy that is guaranteed
to fail is not taking risks.
Really, it doesnt help not to risk because not to risk at all is the greatest
risk in life. So, whether you risk or not, there is always something at stake,
and now if theres always something at stake, why not risk for positivity?
People avoid risking in business for fear of losing money and other resources
like time and reputation. Which are also the very same things they stand a
great chance to gain should they risk. The benefits of taking risks will enrich
your life and make your business or career much more rewarding.

Chapter One
Understanding the Risk Factor
Taking the time to explain risk, according to Longman Dictionary of
Contemporary English, risk is the possibility that something bad, unpleasant,
or dangerous may happen, or something or someone that is likely to cause
harm or danger. Again it may mean an action that might have bad results.
So, if we are to scrutinise the above paragraph, a risk is an illusion. It can
either exist or not, but all is dependent on what the risk taker does or considers
in his/her risk taking, which is ultimately the Risk Factor. Risk is the
possibility that something unpleasant might occur, which means whatever it is
you do determines the level of risks, or the probability of a particular risk to
occur. At the same time you hold the power to either magnify or minimise the
risks, all dependent on what you do.
Therefore, the Risk Factor according to this book is an individuals
ability of undertaking to pursue his/her desires or to do that which is
highly regarded as risky in striving to achieve their goals. The Risk
Factor is when you go against what is normal with reasons and
dynamism to achieve good results from the very hazards of life. It is
the ability to take risks necessarily.
The fact remains standing that life is attached with risks, whether you
believe it or not. In whatever you do or dont do, risks are involved, but that
shouldnt be an issue to hold you back from what you desire. The risks in life
shouldnt be keeping you captive away from what you should do to progress
but rather, the Risk Factor should be the very reason why you ought to do
certain things. The risks shouldnt be a factor of failure at all but the Risk

Factor should be a motivation, a catalyst to personal development and goal

achievement.
O I love Jesus and His gospel. Christ knew that for one to utterly succeed
in life, he/she need to understand that risks are illusions, a thin membrane
between man and his goals, therefore, that membrane can easily be torn with
less effort should the risk factor be embraced. Christ did not deny the presence
of risks in the world and in the lives of men. He did not deny the presence of
obstacles, hardships and struggles. Despite the presence of these dangers, He
did not consider this to be a factor of limitation. He only considered the
possibility of the reality of success in mens affairs, which is the embracing of
the risk factor. Thus, when handing the Great Commission to His disciples
and they that believe in Him and His Gospel, He said;
And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will
drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes
with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at
all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well. Mark
16:18, 17 (NIV).
Christ gave those who believe power to conquer all, and this power is
accessible only in the risk factor. He perfectly knew well the inevitable
presence of demons, and He said they shall cast them out. To the snakes, they
shall pick them up. Notice, He didnt say if they pick up snakes but they will
pick up snakes you can choose to pick up or not and if you choose to pick
them up, nothing can happen to you.
Then again He went on to say that when they drink deadly poison, it will
not hurt them at all. When, is a conjunction word which is used to join parts of
a sentence to introduce a factual statement. Its a factual word. So, what Jesus
means in the scripture above is the statement of truth pinpointing that on a

daily basis you do drink deadly and poisonous drinks and eat foodstuffs which
can corrupt your system but you dont die. Why? Because thats not an issue,
for what is more real is the fact that it it will not hurt you. Just because of
constant exposure to the risks of life, people will be sick but thats not an issue
of concern because just by placing your hands on those who are sick, healing
is effected.
What the Gospel of Christ Jesus is to the world is to bring solutions in
midst of troubles, chaos and desolation. In the same way, the presence of
risks creates enough motivation to do the things we want even when they are
exposed to great threats because in midst of that very risk, there rests our
greatest rewards of life.
Every heavyweight accomplisher in life achieved what they desired by
defying risks and embracing the Risk Factor. Preliminary from the sea sailors
and explorers like Christopher Colombus, Vasco da Gama, Ferdinand
Magellan, David Livingstone; to the world changers like Nelson Mandela of
South Africa, Dr. Kenneth Kaunda of Zambia, Martin Luther King Jnr,
Abraham Lincoln, Mahatma Ghandhi; to the great developers of today like
Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Jack Ma, Jeff Bezzos,
Larry Page and Sergey Brin, etc. all these individuals had to defy the odds for
them to achieve their goals, read their biographies. The times and conditions
of that time were not any better than now but they overlooked the risks and
only concentrated on what they intended to achieve.
On top of all, consider the most important sacrifice of all, the crucifixion
of the Christ. The scripture says, For God so loved the world that he gave his
only begotten son The Father knew exactly what He was doing in giving
His one and only son as sacrifice for man. Even the son Himself knew of all
brutal circumstances He was to go through for the sacrifice to be effectual, but
despite of high risks, He retreated not, but rather, embraced the risk factor. He

did not lose sight of his desire because He had a goal and that goal was to
bring salvation to mankind by His death, and He died for it.
After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand
of the Majesty in heaven. So he became as much superior to the angels as the
name he has inherited is superior to theirs. {Hebrews 1:3-4 NIV}
Christ Jesus became the son with radiance of Gods glory with all the
power and authority after He penetrated through risks of this world in the
name of serving His beloved, mankind, you and me together. Thats when
He became far more superior to the angels because there was an inheritance
He was to get after he completed his task and that is a Name above all names,
beings and things in heaven, on earth, and under the earth.
The Risk Factor in life is all that we need to conquer every obstacle in
everything we do. Dangers are in every area of life, but despite having risks,
(the Bible says) your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus.
Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God
something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of
a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a
man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death even death on the
cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name
that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in
heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus
Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. {Philippians 2:6-11 NIV}
Please understand that theres no risk free life. I like this quote originated
from a great mind of Albert Einstein, The fear of death is the most
unjustified of all fears, for there's no risk of accident for someone who's
dead.

So, as long as it is life, it has risks attached to it, either in a large degree or
less, but it still has risks to it. Having the knowledge and understanding of the
risk factor in everything, empowers one to make informed decisions and take
precautions in executions of ones endeavours. The risk factor is what
empowers one to overcome.
The lifes risks are an obvious part of livelihood of every living creature. So,
trying to avoid risks is trying to risk not to risk, which is a gravely and
dangerous thing, but instead, with passion embrace the Risk Factor and you
will always win. I see you becoming a risk taker!

Caution:

Not every other risk should be embraced.

Some risks are implanted with serious dangers and can cause
severe damage to the risk taker if the risk management
principles are not applied. Make sure you draft a complete plan
of execution with a clear and comprehensive exit plan.

Chapter Two
Why the Risk Factor in Life?
If you are not willing to risk the unusual, you will have to settle for
the ordinary. - Jim Rohn
Opening this chapter with a quote from Jim Rohn will usher us great
insight into the Risk Factor understanding and why the risk factor in life. We
have heard over and over that if you are not willing to do what you have never
done before, you will never get any different results from what youve been
getting. Doing what scares most people is a great chance of achieving what
most people wont achieve.
As one of the many individuals who look up to the US President, Barack
Obama with admiration and consider him as an inspiration, I love Obama and
the man has influenced my life positively even though he does not know it. I
keep a portrait of him, which I look at and allow myself to dream even bigger.
One time towards the end of the year 2014, he was giving a speech,
addressing the nation of America and the world at large of the new approach
his government was taking concerning the Cuban government over a long non
cordial bilateral relationship between the two nations. This speech ensued
after the US contractor who was imprisoned in Cuba for years was released to
go back home. President Obama uttered a sentence in his statement saying,
Why should we continue doing the same thing that has not brought us
different results for so many decades and instead of embarking on a different
approach which will lead to new results. (I have paraphrased it). Obama was
making it clear to us that should we expect new results in our actions and
endeavours, we should look for new alternatives in our dealings.

Without the risk factor in an individuals life, especially in the times we

are now living, there can literally be nothing to be achieved. Persons achieve
all that they desire because of bearing the risk factor.
Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers
are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth
labourers into his harvest. Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs
among wolves. {Luke 10:2-3}.
This portion of scripture is enough reason for one to risk it in life. The
harvest is great, meaning it is plentiful waiting for the harvesters, the risk
takers. The harvest is plentiful in business, and business is all about risking.
Its plentiful in victories, and its all about risking your life for you to emerge
victorious! It is plentiful in every sphere of life. The presence of wolves in the
harvest field should not terminate the risk factor frequency in the lives of
harvesters - risk takers.
This book is not an ultimate guide to risk taking but merely a technical
reminder for you to realise what should be done every time a risk factor is
required. I am fully convinced that even you have enough reason why the risk
factor is a blessing in the lives of individual beings. Probably, you have
already witnessed its power and benefits.
The future of a business world lies in the hands of pioneers and risk takers,
because business in its entirety, is risky. The world and its greatness are not
for cowards but for the brave hearts, and tremendous achievement is for the
people who have nothing but everything to lose. These are the kind of people
we celebrate today for their great accomplishment. Look at this;
Why stay here until we die? If we say, Well go into the city the
famine is there, and we will die. So lets go over to the camp of the Arameans

and surrender. If they spare us, we live; if they kill us, then we die. {2 Kings
7:8 NIV}
This, purely, describes a person who has nothing but everything to lose in
life. Nothing can stop such an individual from achieving anything desired for
in life. The four men who were suffering from leprosy in Samaria were in
desperate circumstance therefore they needed a desperate measure to solve
their problem. Leprosy patients are often quarantined and considered outcasts
in most communities and thats exactly what was happening to these four
men. They realised that they would die should they continue staying outside,
and if they ever dared to enter the city, they would die too, and going into the
Aramean camp, they were as good as dead. After having analysed the risk
factor concerning their dilemma, they decided to go over to the Aramean
camp and lo and behold, their breakthrough came forth.
Passion or desire for something is what causes humanity to risk for
things in this world. Unfortunately, just a small fraction of people have
aroused enough passion in their lives to generate the required
motivation. Passion and conviction is what makes one so determined
enough to risk everything even be prepared to die for something.
What is it that you feel you are ready even to lose your life for? Let me tell
you, not until you know what it is, you have not enough passion to embrace
the risk factor. God so loved the world (had enough passion), He came down
in human form to save mankind from destruction. This kind of love is the
level of absolute perfection. Listen, should your partner be ready to die for
you because of his/her love, then, you are a very fortunate person. Most
people claim to love but few are ready to risk their lives for their loved ones,
hence, theres so much unspeakable chaos in relationships. Having a deeper
understanding of what really love is sets one on a path of excellence and
absolute exploits.

Too many Christians have a commitment of convenience. They'll stay

faithful as long as it's safe and doesn't involve risk, rejection, or criticism.
Instead of standing alone in the face of challenge or temptation, they check to
see which way their friends are going. - Charles Stanley.
This scenario is the reason why we have dilapidated morals and values in
our societies. Things we can easily influence and change for goodness sake,
we let them run loose spoiling and corrupting our very existence. Why? Its all
because of commitment to convenience, safety and familiarity. Its the very
reason we give people who are suckers to positions of power to govern the
prudent this bleeds my heart.
Jim Carrey says, It is better to risk starving to death than surrender. If you
give up on your dreams, what's left?
Now, with clarity, state that which motivates you to go beyond your
ordinary familiar frontiers to taste a bite of good accomplishment. The risk
factor is almost the only gateway to answered prayers of various
circumstances. Embrace the Risk Factor! I see you embracing the risk factor!

Chapter Three
Management of the Risk Factor
It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. {Matthew 9:12
NIV}
One of the greatest tools in combating risks in any area of life is wisdom.
Possessing the knowledge of great understanding of whatever is coming your
way carves illuminated paths to what should be done. Knowledge of the
management of the risk factor will always enable you to handle the bumps,
twists and turns of life with ease.
For instance, the reason why a vehicle is designed with head lamps is for
lighting the road ahead when times of darkness loom by. Just as it is that
theres a bright day, there is also a dark day in life, therefore, the vehicle and
its driver have been prepared for that season so to avoid unnecessary
shortcomings. So understanding the management of risks and the risk factor
prepares you for what is to come your way, for such moments are
unavoidable.
Warren Buffet says, Risk comes from not knowing what you are doing.
Just an evening before the day I was to write this chapter, a friend came to
explain a business idea he had proposed earlier which I did not see the
prospects of proper profit margin because I did not understand his concept.
So, as we were there evaluating the whole idea, I asked for any documentation
of his business idea. It sounded like a great business venture to put in some
investment, hence, I needed a business plan for it. Unfortunately, he did not
have any of such documentation and he even looked more confused when I
asked this from him.

In the same way, many individuals become confused with some

happenings of life because of lacking a proper road map or plan of project
execution, and this lacking is as a result of not having proper understanding.
Jesus understood this philosophy and thats why there will never be any
better winning story in life other than Jesus story. In every project He was to
do, He had a better understanding in every detail to ensure victory.
Calling the Twelve to him, he sent them out two by two and gave them
authority over evil spirits. These were his instructions: Take nothing for the
journey except a staff no bread, no bag, no money in your belts. Wear
sandals but not an extra tunic. Whenever you enter a house, stay there until
you leave that town. And if any place will not welcome you or listen to you,
shake the dust off your feet when you leave, as a testimony against them.
They went out and preached that people should repent. They drove out many
demons and anointed many sick people with oil and healed them. {Mark 6:713 NIV}
This mission became a success from the word go because the mission
designer had an operational plan. He anticipated possible setbacks and
rejections, therefore, he provided them with an escape plan. He embraced the
risk factor because he knew that was the only way great impact and results
were to be yielded.
Calculating the Risks
And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.
{Matthew 15:14}.

Risk calculation always brings great understanding and decreases the

likelihood of disaster occurrence. Calculating the risks mean to
carefully think, brainstorm and evaluate a particular project and its
outcome. You do not need to blindly do things but rather do them from
the perspective of accurate understanding of a careful thought.
One incredible Bible story we have read and heard over and over is the
story in Mark 5:25-34. Its about a woman who was a subject of bleeding for
twelve years without help. She had suffered a great deal at the hands of
crooked people and doctors who claimed to have the remedy to heal her
ailment but only drained all her lifes worth and made her conditions worse
instead of making her better. But then, a miracle happened. News about Jesus
and his power to heal reached her ears. This news brought a dawn of new
plethora feelings of hope. She immediately desired to go over to meet Jesus
but there was a barrier standing her way, a risk to be dealt with. Thats why in
her calculation to the risk, she told herself that If I only touch his clothes, I
will be healed before anyone learns of what I am going through. She did not
need a bunch of minutes to be with Christ for the healing, she only needed a
touch of the helm of his garments.
Jesus was rarely alone and to find him alone was everyones dream which
never came true to many. Whenever he was in public places, he was always
thronged with multitudes of people around him. This womans risk to her
healing was the consequential exposure to her being stoned to death should
anything wrong happen. During that time, anyone who was found with an
issue of blood was considered unclean and that individual was to be
quarantined, away from the people for a set period because with whoever
came into contact with that person would also become unclean. Now imagine,
how many people she was going to make unclean as she made her way to
Jesus. Moreover, she already had twelve years of bleeding which constituted

to thousands of days of uncleanness. This subjected her to lifelong solitary.

Look at this passage, for more understanding:
When a woman has her regular flow of blood, the impurity of her
monthly period will last seven days, and anyone who touches her will be
unclean till evening. Anything she lies on during her period will be unclean,
and anything she sits on will be unclean. {Leviticus 15:19-20 NIV}.
And now take a look at this other portion.
When a woman has a discharge of blood for many days at a time other
than her monthly period or has a discharge that continues beyond her period,
she will be unclean as long as she has the discharge, just as in the days of her
period. Any bed she lies on while her discharge continues will be unclean, as
is her bed during her monthly period, and anything she sits on will be
unclean, as during her period. Whoever touches them will be unclean
{Leviticus 15:25-27 NIV}.
O man! Oops! No wonder the Apostle Paul exclaimed that the law brings
no life but death and condemnation. But thanks be to God for the Covenant of
Abundant Grace, now. This woman according to the risk exposure, she was
destined for death by stoning.
So, taking the time to carefully examine your endeavours before you
plunge in will help programme you for ultimate success because you will be
undertaking only the calculated risks which reduce the likelihood of bad
outcomes. The reason for taking the calculated risks is to protect yourself,
your investments, career, health, relationships and even possessions from
impending losses.

Minimising the Risks

Now, having taken the time to calculate the risks, theres a ploy to apply to
minimise the imminent risks. When you have minimised the risks, you are
guaranteed of a landslide victory all the way.
After the men had gone a long time without food, Paul stood up before
them and said: Men, you should have taken my advice not to sail from Crete;
then you would have spared yourselves this damage and loss. But now I urge
you to keep up your courage, because not one of you will be lost; only the ship
will be destroyed. {Acts 27:21-22 NIV}.
Often times, indicators concerning the probable losses and damages knock
on a persons door to warn them about their actions and decisions they make
but instead they ignore. Having warned the men beforehand, Paul reminded
them of what was to take place. They didnt heed his advice and they paid for
it. Theres always a price for every little decision we make and every little
action we take, theres always a price. Now, because of this price tag
attachment to every activity, theres need to learn and practice the
minimisation of risks.
Minimising risks is like disarming a bomb threatening to explode. This
involves the disarming of every activity appearing threatening. This is
done by planning carefully what to do and doing the exact planned
thing. It also involves discerning between going ahead in doing what
you intend to do or not. Sometimes not doing a particular activity at a
particular time and do it at a later date can save an ass.
No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch
will pull away from the garment, making the tear worse. Neither do men pour
new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst, the wine will run

out and wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins,
and both are preserved. {Matthew 19:16-17 NIV}.
Taking certain preventive measures in dealing with certain risky situations
preserves everything and everyone involved. For instance, you can minimise
the risk of losing a precious relationship by doing an extra care to nurture
positivity by always treating your partner or friend as you would want them to
treat you. Find or create time for them, call them, visit them when you can,
compromise on certain things, forgive their shortcomings and understand their
weaknesses and do not be too judgmental.
Understanding the risk factor in life puts you at an added advantage, for
you can never be tied down by any mans philosophy, threats, negativity or
ignorance.
All this I have told you so that you will not go astray. {John 16:1 NIV}.
Most people are afraid of taking risks because they are ignorant about risk
management. Understanding risk management in every activity positions you
not to sway in your walk towards your goal achievement. Take time to
research more and embrace it.
For many are called, but few are chosen. {Matthew 22:14}.
If you went to the Patents and Companies Registration Authority in your
nation today to check on the number of businesses being registered daily, you
would be amazed. There are millions of business organisations being
registered to do commerce but only a few are making it. There are millions of
people who want to be famous artistes, powerful politicians, business
magnates, financial tycoons, even great sportsmen and women but only a few
are realising their dreams. Why? Because, only a few are willing to risk it!

For instance, in a soccer team, there can be more than twenty members as
players but only eleven players are chosen to play each time theres a game.
This is not biasness, but its according to how much input is exerted from
them. Its about how much willingness to sacrifice and to take risks is
displayed in them.
Businesses fail because of not being able to manage risks. Too many
businesses register daily, but very few succeed. For many are called, but few
are chosen. Only a few are ready and willing to embrace the risk factor just
to make sure success is attained. I see you becoming one of the few!

risks are implanted with serious dangers and can cause severe
damage to the risk taker if the risk management principles are not
applied. Make sure you draft a complete plan of execution with a
clear and comprehensive exit plan.

Chapter Four
Benefits of the Risk Factor
Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground
and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. {John
12:24}
Every persons desire in life is to experience progress and tremendous
development in every area, thus, people look for jobs, create companies and
corporations, search for knowledge and spend much of their entire lives
studying, acquiring knowledge to broaden the understanding of mans
existence and purpose on earth.
Now, even when others are so committed to want to change their lives for
good, other people are not experiencing satisfaction and fulfilment of living.
They toil and struggle everyday hoping that someday a miracle may happen to
transcend them to heights of their dreams. But one thing they forget and this
one thing is the reason for greatness and multiplication, enjoyment and
happiness, satisfaction and fulfilment of life. It is the very one thing which
distinguishes between the successful and the failures of life. This one thing is
the Risk Factor and on this chapter, I am to divulge the benefits of the risk
factor.
Jesus in the opening scripture says that unless a seed drops to the ground
and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.
Should

you

desire

multiplication,

success,

fulfilment,

supernatural

advancement, why not embracing the risk factor? Even in relationships,

people are so unwilling to die from their personal issues like harmful ego,
pride, attitudes, I, me and myself syndrome, etc. Please Note, not until you are
ready to die from self for you to be ready to be with someone else in life, you

are never going to experience benefits of a happy relationship. If you are

scared to take risks, you are going to remain a single seed with nothing to
benefit you and your family.
Not until you are sold out with passion to your vision and dream, not
until you are ready to stake your life as in the significance of being
dead to the conditions and risks of life, you are not going to experience
any breakthrough at all.
Fortune sides with him who dares. Virgil. O how awesome these
words are! Many are the times that people grumble, even to the point of
blaming the Lord God for their failures in life. What they dont understand is
they are supposed to blame themselves for their failures.
God does not create or put anything anywhere without making a
supportive environment first for the flourishing of the creature. Before He
created the fish, He created water. Before man, He created the Garden of Eden
for man to work and prosper. Before the stars, He created the firmament. So,
for God to put you in this world means He has already programmed
everything you will require to make it in life. All you need is to walk by faith
and not by sight and do the things you have always been afraid of doing.
Jesus Christ knew and understood every season of opportunity and He
always took advantage of such seasons. He perfectly knew that his suffering
was to bring his elevation. Look at this. The hour is come, that the Son of
man should be glorified. Embracing the risk factor at the right time, makes
you walk in endless victories.
Before getting into a listed few benefits of the risk factor in the proceeding
pages, lets have a quick review of a few Biblical stories about benefits of the
risk factor.

And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they
came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. But now they
desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to
be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.. {Hebrews 11:1516}
What benefits do you see waiting for you should you risk it? What do you
keep longing for, wishing that you attained? At the end of every journey,
theres a destination. God prepared a city for the patriarchs because of their
bravery risk throughout all their lives, longing for a better country rather than
wanting to remain with the former.
For those of us who are very adventurous people, taking risks is fun and
brings a sense of satisfaction and fulfilment all together. In my life thus far, I
have been testing the goodness obtained from having risked. I have tested the
bitter too but I have been testing more of the good stuff and that tells me that
surely there are benefits in risking, and if there are benefits in risking, why
shouldnt I embrace the risk factor to enjoy much more interesting stuff? I
always choose to embrace the risk factor because I have got nothing to lose
but only much to gain.
Playing it safe is not safe and playing risk is not risky at all, look at this:
Now there were four men with leprosy at the entrance of the city gate.
They said to each other, Why stay here until we die? If we say, Well go into
the city the famine is there, and we will die. And if we stay here, we will die.
So lets go over to the camp of the Arameans and surrender. If they spare us,
we live; if they kill us, then we die. {2 Kings 73-4 NIV}.
This is the kind of thinking and decision making procedure a person who
is longing for a change of level in life should emulate. It cant get any better
than this in problem analysis. These men tackled all areas and clearly saw that

playing it safe is not safe at all, and risking was the only thing which had a
factor of hope with it and they went for it.
At dusk they got up and went to the camp of the Arameans. When they
reached the edge of the camp, not a man was there, for the Lord had caused
the Arameans to hear the sound of chariots and horses and a great army. So
they got up and fled in the dusk and abandoned their tents and their horses
and donkeys. They left the camp as it was and ran for their lives. The men who
had leprosy reached the edge of the camp and entered one of the tents. They
ate and drank, and carried away silver, gold and clothes, and went off and hid
them. They returned and entered another tent and took some things from it
and hid them also. Then they said to each other, Were not doing right. This
is the day of good news and we are keeping it to ourselves. If we wait until
daylight, punishment will overtake us. Lets go at once and report this to the
royal palace. {{2 Kings 7:5-9 NIV emphasis mine}.
I like these guys. Despite their conditions, they were making right
decisions at the right time and then acted upon them hastily. They did not
allow their fear of starving and dying to be greater than their longing for a
better chance at life. It does not matter by what name your society call you,
success is inevitable for one who is so determined. These four men despite
them having individual names of their own given to them at the time of birth,
society called them the four men with leprosy. This is not a good name. How
do you get described by the condition you are going through? Your habitat
may have attached a nickname on you but do not let that be an influence of
failure. Let it not hinder your progress. Even in your deepest deep and your
bottomst bottom, the risk factor is what will uproot you from there.
God has already done His part, so its up to you to take a risk. Hes always
right there waiting for you to make a move and all He will do is to confuse the
enemy before you approach. Not until you gather up your courage to take

advantage of risks in your life, nothing significant will ever be wrought out by
your hand.
Below are a few listed benefits of the risk factor.
1. Creates New Opportunities
Often times, opportunities are comprehensively disguised to the people
who stand afar. They appear to be a series of misfortunes but once you
step up and take your stand, real benefits get unveiled. Opportunities
always come to people but few people are willing to step up and take
their stand to risk their way to greatness.

2. Sparks Innovation
The second benefit of the risk factor is the triggering of creativity and
innovative approaches to problem solving. Taking risks exposes you to
face new challenging circumstances which then empower you to
stretch your muscle mind. Due to our various backgrounds of growing
up and different family cultures, the things we humans have been
exposed to all our lives tend to construct limiting strongholds in our
mental faculties. These established strongholds set up a speed limit to
which the mind can go without an overdrive, but when you take risks,
you undergo the reprogramming process of the mind-set which then
absolutely abolishes such strongholds and the mind is freed to innovate
and create new possibilities beyond unimaginable altitudes.

3. Keeps Hope Alive

Hope levels for the people who fear risking are normally very low.
They hope nothing more than what they are comfortable with because
of security. A highly hopeful person is always a risk taker and because
of that their hopes always come to pass in life. They push to try new

approaches to solving their challenges. Hope is the greatest gift we

have to bear the pain in life without breaking.

Hope is an optimistic attitude of mind based on an expectation of

positive outcomes related to events and circumstances in one's life. It
is a power enabling a hoper to cherish his/her desire with anticipation
of favourable outcome. Hope emanates from adversity and without
crisis, there can never be hope for humans. The presence of pain in
ones life opens the new creative possibilities and ideas to combat the
arising of a great need. Hope bears many fruits when it is based on a
realistic sense of optimism rather than on the naive basis of falsehood.

4. Guarantees Goal Achievements

You can set goals for yourself, and in fact, many are the times that
people set goals, write prayer points indicating their wishful desires for
manifestation but only a few people realise the achievement of their
set goals. Now, the reason why only a fraction of goalsetters happen
to achieve their goals compared to a large number of people who set
goals is the level of willingness to take risks. So many people write
what their goals are but how many do really act upon their goals and
are willing enough to do anything for whatever it takes to make sure
that they are fulfilled? Very few people do that, and these are those
with enlightened and illuminated minds with abundant knowledge in
this philosophy.

5. Brings Fulfilment and Satisfaction

Imagine having accomplished a tremendous task you set for yourself.
Even when you faced stiff challenges, you fought your way to the top
until it was finally done. How would you feel? Wouldnt you feel the

ecstatic sense of fulfilment, satisfaction and accomplishment?

Emphatically yes you would! It would make you feel more and more
worthy of an accomplisher.

Because of the remarkable sense of success, completeness, fulfilment

and satisfaction the risk factor brings into your life, Booker T.
Washington says, "You measure the size of the accomplishment by the
obstacles you had to overcome to reach your goals." This is a factual
statement. Risk taking gives you that deserved self-worth.

6. Boosts Confidence
Every militant I know and have studied over the years possesses a
ridiculous kind of confidence. They are so confident for theres no
presence of intimidation in them because of the kind of training they
undergo, trained to be risk takers and thats what they all are. In the
same way risk takers are people who develop absolute confidence.
They allow nothing to terrorise them. Confidence will be one of your
benefits once you embrace the risk factor and where theres
confidence, theres always fulfilment of dreams.

Mostly, risks tend to be protruding on top of every horizon to scare

people, which is just a mirage but what is more real is the reward
embedded in there. Confidence helps to fight the belief of doubt about
whether you will be successful or not. When you apply confidence and
give it your best shot into achieving your goals, you are most likely to
attain it. Confidence transcends you beyond the typical thinking
pattern and empowers you to welcome challenges, new opportunities
with self-respect and confidence feeling stronger for anything to come.

7. Destroys the Inferiority Complex Syndrome

"To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream, not
only plan, but also believe." --Anatole France

Inferiority complex syndrome is a deadly disease claiming millions of

destinies, dreams, visions and goals every day. So many people feel
unworthy to achieve the success they see around. Others feel unworthy
to be wealthy or even to be loved by most beautiful and incredible
people. This challenge holds many back as a result they evade
pursuing their true purpose of living.

People with an HISC (high inferiority complex syndrome) tend to hate

and disgust anything about themselves in general. They disgust their
smile, their own voice, hair, nose, height, skin tone, their name, and
step even their very existence. The reason for the risk factor is to
destroy this enemy of destinies and dreams. The risk factor takes you
to places you have never imagined and makes you meet and interact
with people you never thought would interact with you.

Chapter Five
Embracing the Risk Factor
He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot
lose. Jim Elliot
Having had provided the time to study and grasp understanding of the risk
factor, it is now time to embrace it. Embracing the risk factor involves good
reasons why the risk factor. To let go of that which you cannot keep so that
you gain that which you cannot lose is more than enough reason to embrace
the risk factor. In similar context, to make Jim Elliots statement true, John D.
Rockefeller says, "Don't be afraid to give up the good to go for the great."
I have met people who prefer to stick with the devil you know is better
than the angel you do not know, avoiding the best opportunities in life. For
instance, while in progress of this very book development, I shared the idea
with a friend of mine about the purpose of this book. I told him how I got
inspired to write a free material on risks and he immediately shared with me
his aunties story. Heres the brief summary of the story.
My friends auntie has been working for a certain named organization
specialized in kids with disabilities for more than fifteen years. Due to her
unprecedented working culture of hard work and professionalism, she was
offered a very lucrative job in the United States of America with monthly
allowances five times more than her normal monthly pay here in her home
country, Zambia. Shes retiring in the next five years and because of this, she
turned down the offer saying she doesnt want to lose her pension.
You know, I laughed when I heard this. I realized why God did allow me
to embark on this books idea because so many people are in bondage of fear

of losing when they are already losing. The above womans concern was
about her pension which is a common tendency to so many people. We
roughly calculated her monthly allowance if she was to accept the offer in the
USA multiplied by five years, and the total sum was exceeding her anticipated
pension a dozen times more. Why not risk the good to go for the better and
great?
Being successful is not about the quantity of hours or how long you have
been working for an organization so you may collect a good pension, but its
about the quality and impact of your service to serve and be compensated
worthily in a short period of time. Take a look at footballers and artistes or
entertainers. Its not about how long they have been working but how many
people are served at the same time, and thus they are so successful and
compensated heavily.
Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is
of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. {1
Corinthians 2:12}.
The Creator has freely given us all things and it is our responsibility to
enjoy everything. Its our duty to take charge and achieve whatever it is we
desire. And now, when we evade the risk factor, we evade the chance of
obtaining better things.
.For all things are yours; Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the
world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours;
And ye are Christ's; and Christ is God's. {1 Corinthians 3:21-23}.
This understanding that you own everything is a necessary requirement for
you to embrace the risk factor. When you come to understand that your Father
is the Monarch of the entire universe, fear automatically perishes and failure is
completely nullified.

Sometimes negative news does come out, but it is often exaggerated and
manipulated to spread scandal. Journalists sometimes risk becoming ill from
coprophilia and thus fomenting coprophagia: which is a sin that taints all men
and women, that is, the tendency to focus on the negative rather than the
positive aspects. - Pope Francis
Incredible words spoken by a world religious leader. Negativity is like
thats what all media houses are striving for. They are so proactive in
reporting and updating negative results, even the exact number of victims in a
catastrophic event, including how bad it was, even showing bloody dead
bodies, a purely bad scenery for public domain broadcasting. This stirs fear in
people to evade the risk factor.
Media and what you hear should not become a major factor to control
what you get and what you should not get. It should not become a controlling
factor in your destiny. If you are going through hell keep going, like what
Winston Churchill said. Let hell be no factor. Let the valley of the shadow of
death be an illusion, but what should be more real is the fact that He (God) is
leading you and you shall fear no evil, but to expect a table of good things in
the presence of your enemies rewards.
Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his
cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but
whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save
it.. {Mark 8:34-35}.
Jesus was speaking as a treasure to be risked for. In the same way, the
very desire you preciously seek is whispering the same words of Jesus that
you ought to deny yourself and be ready to take up your cross and follow it.
Gather up your courage, dominate your pride, and take advantage of your
strengths and weaknesses. Wanting to be a coward to save your life is

choosing to lose its true meaning and purpose. The gospel is the good news, a
reward you obtain after having risked.
For instance, some people have just been hurt too much in relationships.
They reach an extent to never want to fall in love again. They avoid being
involved in a relationship and if they do, they make the other person who truly
love them to pay for the sins they do not know about. Britney Spears says,
With love, you should go ahead and take the risk of getting hurt because love

is an amazing feeling. Every sphere of life is all about risking and you must
embrace these risks for you to fully live a life of fulfilment. We embrace the
risk factor in love because we enjoy the excitement and the amazing feeling of
loving and being loved.
Now, here is the main reason why you should embrace the risk factor.
A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come;
but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy
that a child is born into the world. So with you: Now is your time of
grief, butyou will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.
{John 16:21-22 NIV}.
There are certain things which require absolute risking in obtaining, and
most of such things are the most valuable goods and are lasting ones. Some
require that you let go of what you are holding in your hands for them to be
filled with good things, while others require that you persevere at smashing
the covering to breakthrough. No wonder Dale Carnegie said, "Most of the
important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have
kept on trying when there seemed to be no help at all."
This same thing happened with Christ Jesus. He noticed that his disciples
were grieved when the time for him to leave earth came. Heres what he said;

Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away:
for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I
will send him unto you. {John 16:7}.
And then he went on further explaining what the counsellor will do when
he comes.
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all
truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that
shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for
he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. {John 16:13-14}.
To enjoy the benefits of the risk factor requires you to believe because
surely theres nothing impossible for someone who believes in life. It calls for
you to have a strong belief system in your dreams and visions. It requires that
you hope and expect great things of yourself before you can even do them.
And by believing the favourable possible outcome, you will embark on risking
for the things that truly mean preciousness to you.

In the very pain you feel. In the very adversity you encounter in your life, lies a
voice whispering a promise to awaken you to create imagination of what the voice is
talking about. In this very pain and adversity lies a secret incredible power for a
human being to face the insurmountable adversity, and what the voice implores on is
for you to embrace the pain and adversity so to experience this secret incredible
human power.
Many do know of this power but are intolerant of its essence in human
transformation. This secret power is HOPE. It is an optimistic attitude of mind

your best friend. You may have thrown a towel on it but, just because
someone stumbles and loses their way, it doesnt mean they are lost forever.
You can reawaken this power by embracing it.

As frightening as the pain you encounter may be, it will always make
you stronger.
We always sometimes need a little help, and it ushers great help from
somewhere
It is a source of salvation in times of adversity
It brings light in times of darkness
It blesses instead of cursing
It opens great opportunity doors where despair closes
It illuminates what to be done instead of grumbling about what cannot
be done
It searches and focuses for the good in people instead of focusing on
their weaknesses

Well, for you to make it in life, I need you to hope again. Reawaken the power
imbedded in you to bring your desire near. HOPE AGAIN!
