November 7, 2016

Cooperating Teacher: Jenna Lucci

Time: 10:45-11:24, 12:55 1:45
Algebra 2 Sophomore/Juniors Periods 4&6

Specific Objectives to meet goals:

Students will be able to apply graph quadratic formulas in standard form.
Students will be able to use an equation to find the line of symmetry.
Students will be able to find the vertex of the quadratic function and other points on the function.
Common Core Standard High School Functions: (Analyze functions using different
representations)
Graph functions expressed symbolically and show features of graph, by hand in simple cases and
using technology for more complicated cases.
Students should be able to graph linear and quadratic functions and show intercepts, maxima and
minima.
Motivational Techniques:
Remind students about how to graph a linear function and then ask if they think we can graph a
quadratic function in standard form.
Materials Needed:
Promethean Board, PowerPoint, white board, projection of PowerPoint on Promethean board,
students textbooks, pencils, calculator, graph paper.
Procedure for lesson:
Students enter classroom with the PowerPoint projected on the Promethean board
Students take their seats and take out paper for notes
Ask students the questions in my motivational techniques
Present the lesson using the PowerPoint projected on the Promethean board and solving
problems on the white board as I go through the lesson
Explain definitions and apply them within the lesson
Project graph paper of the Promethean board for examples
Do examples of problems with the students
Students will then be assigned exercises to complete on their own
Students will work on the exercises while I walk around and answer questions
Academic Language:
Quadratic Functions, Parabolas, Line of symmetry, Vertex, Positive and Negative Functions
Assessment Methods:

After students complete assigned problems I will walk around and make sure they did it correctly
and obtained the right answer.
Evaluation of Field Experience Students Experience:
Today I taught two lessons on Graphing Quadratic Functions. The first lesson,
I did not give them enough time to write down the notes on the PowerPoint
and I was only able to do one example with them. The second lesson went a
little better. I realized I needed to give them time to write down the notes
and I was able to get through two examples. It was interesting to see how I
learned from my mistakes in the first lesson, which allowed me to make my
second lesson better.
