Notes on Electronic Edition

This edition is based on the printed edition published by Philipp Reclam jun., Leipzig in 1882.
All direct problems and selfmates have been computer tested using Matthieu Leschemelles computer program Problemiste. The studies have been manually tested using Fritz 6 with the Nalimov endgame database. The conditional problems, however, have only been
checked for obvious errors.
Problems without a solution have been indicated with [] after the
stipulation, problems with short solutions with [], and problems with
multiple solutions with [*], and an indication of the problem given after the (original) solution. Any other errors discovered in the original
solutions have been added in brackets, but obvious misprints have
been silently corrected.
Two oddities are worth mentioning. In two-mover 70, both black
bishops are on white squares. In three-mover 58, the solution given
in the original is faulty. Healeys own collection gives the correct solution, however.
Solutions have also been changed from long to short algebraic form,
and slightly expanded in cases where the extremely contracted solutions of the original seemed excessive. Lines not present in the original
solutions have not been added.

Vorrede

Compositionen begegnen. So haben z. B. die vierzgige No. 102 von

Pradignat, die vierzgige von Fr. Dubbe No. 22 und von L. Noack No.
Dubbe in
Rostock, Max Krschner in Nrnberg, Hermann Lehner in Wien, Nadebaum in Tessin, Fr.
Frankfurter Schachzeitung.

Einleitung
Man findet in dieser Sammlung 1. Direkte Matte (zwei, drei und vierzgige Aufgaben), 2. Bedingungsaufgaben, 3. Selbstmatte, 4. Studien.
Als Ergnzung zum Inhalt der Einleitung der ersten Sammlung
mge hier noch Folgendes erwhnt werden.
I. Nebenlsung. Doppelzug.
So wrde dies

Aufgabe begegnet man einigen gleichgltigen Doppelzgen.

Nur 1. Dg8 fhrt zum dreizgigen Matt. Anwortet Schwarz 1. Ta7, so

entscheidet nur 2. Dh7; auf 1. Ta6 nur 2. Dg6. Auf 1. Ta3 jedoch kann
Wei 2. Dg6 oder Dh7; auf 1. Ta2 2.
