ASSURE LESSON PLAN

Analyse learners- General Characteristics:

Age:

12-13

Grade: 7
Gender: mixed
Subject: Integrated Science
Unit Title: Particulate Nature of Matter
Topic: States of Matter
Date: November 25, 2016
Time: 20 Minutes

Specific Entry Competencies

Check that students can identify examples of materials as solids, liquids and gases.

Learning Styles:
There are 35 students in this class: 15 females and 20 males. The students present in the class
are of mixed abilities.
There are also learners with diverse learning styles:
25% auditory
30% visual
45% Kinesthetic
Most of the students in this class are welcoming to interactive lesson activities as it cater for
persons with different learning preferences. Building on the students prior knowledge along
with the use of stimulatory activities enhances their engagement throughout the lesson to a
larger extent, as the information is placed into context.

Objectives:
General Objective: for students to become more aware of the three states of matter.
Specific Objectives: Students should be able to:
Cognitive:
Formulate a working definition for matter after listening a podcast
Relate the arrangement of tiny particles to the states of matter after watching an online
video
Psychomotor:
Classify materials as solids, liquids and gases after an online-based stimulatory activity
Compare the physical properties of matter by answering questions from an interactive
PowerPoint
Use technology devices and platforms with at least 80% accuracy
Affective:
Appreciate the significance of living and non-living matter within the environment after
completing given activity online grouping

Utilize media and materials

The Interactive Whiteboard will be used to present the PowerPoint
The computer and speakers will be used for watching a video and listening a
podcast
Computers with internet access will be used for online-based activities
Require Learner Participation
Introduction (3 minutes)
Students will listen a podcast to stimulate their thoughts on what is matter.
This introductory activity includes the students following specific instructions to begin the
activity to type their definition after joining a class on schoology.
Join Tech Ed class on Schoology.
Class code; HS5S7-RF4MW
The teacher will then engage the students into a guided discussion reinforcing the
meaning of the term matter.
Activity 2 Definition

and watch the video then formulate a definition for matter.

(Submit definitions quickly)

Activity 3 (10 minutes)
Students will watch a video for 5 minutes highlighting the differences between the three
states of matter.
From this video, students will learn the physical properties used to distinguish among the
states based on their shape and movement .Based on the video the teacher will ask the
students to share what they have discovered about states of matter.

Production Time 4 (10 minutes)
Using the computers with internet access, the teacher will direct the students to:
Complete an online-based stimulatory activity on the arrangements of the particles of
matter. Click here
Working in peers, the students will spot items of different types of matter. Students will
drag each item from the menu and place them in the appropriate group based on
characteristics. Enter here

Go to task 2 and complete question 7 on state change

The students will then follow the instructions online while being guided by their
teacher, as they complete the web-quest activity.
Revise 3 mins
Students will play a game of boys against girls using an interactive PowerPoint. The team
to score the highest points win .

Evaluate and Revise students and Performance

The students will be assessed based on how they interact with each other as they work in
peers on the online-based stimulatory activity.
The students will also be assessed based on their participation in the web-quest activity.

Were the various learning tools effectively employed throughout the lesson?
Did the PowerPoint and video presentation stimulated the students participation during
the lesson?
