Luke Isaac Scholarship

Established in 2008 by ACSSU in memory of Luke Isaac, with the blessing
of his family members. While being an active ACSSU member at York
University, Luke had earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics and had
begun a career in the banking and commerce industry in downtown
Toronto. Luke Isaac passed away tragically on April 12th, 2006 in a
motor vehicle accident. His passions were music, cultural studies and
"he loved life". Luke was a funny, caring, thoughtful and positive person
whose family and friends will always cherish. This scholarship is to
honour Luke’s commitment to higher education and to his community.
Description

• One $1000 scholarship to be given to an Assyrian Chaldean Syriac student who

has been admitted to or is continuing post-secondary education in a Canadian
institute for the 2010-2011 academic school year.

Requirements

• At least one parent of Assyrian Chaldean Syriac descent.

• Must be a permanent Canadian resident, Canadian citizen, or possess
appropriate paperwork indicating ability to study in Canada.
• Application form with all applicable fields completed.
• 1 original official transcript in sealed envelope to be submitted with application
(from the most recent completed academic year)
• 1 original reference letter from a non-related professional (e.g. teacher, doctor,
etc.) in a sealed envelope to be submitted with application.
• Must be enrolled in and have proof of Full Time studies at a post-secondary
institution for 2010/2011.

Criteria
• Grades (60%)

• Extracurricular Activities, e.g. volunteer work, sports teams, club memberships,

etc. (25%)
• Essay (10%)
• Reference Letter (5%)
• Potential Interview (Bonus 5%)

• September 15, 2010 – Final Date for Application
Submission
• August September 1 – September 20, 2010– Evaluation of Applications

• October 5, 2010 – Recipient is Notified

Applications will be reviewed by the ACSSU Executive Committee and

will be evaluated based on a weighted average system. The applicant
with the highest percentage will be awarded the scholarship.

The scholarship monies will be forwarded directly to the educational

institution to be used as a tuition payment. The payment will be made
the day after the deadline to drop courses set by the educational
institution.
