Test Flight Instructions

Welcome to Test Flight - a virtual journey on the jet.engine
Graphical User Interface (GUI)! Were going to bring you on board and
put you in control of the jet.engine GUI but without any real print
heads installed. So buckle up, and lets get started!
First, you need to install the jet.engine GUI.
Click on the setup.exe application icon to begin the installation. Once
the preparation for installation is complete, the InstallShield Wizard
Welcome screen appears.

Click Next.

The jet.engine GUI License Agreement screen appears.

In order to continue with the installation, select I accept the terms

in the license agreement and then click on the Next button.

On this screen, you have the option to enter your name and the name
of your organization.

For Test Flight purposes, accept the default install option for Anyone
who uses this computer (all users). When finished, click Next.

The InstallShield Wizard now shows you the default location for the
software, which is the C:\jet.engine.gui folder.

If you want to install the GUI in another location, click the Change
button and choose a new location. Be sure to note where you placed
the software, as you will need this information later. Then, click Next.

From this screen, you can select the type of installation you prefer.
For your Test Flight, select Complete, and then click Next.

The InstallShield Wizard now shows you the choices you have made.
If you need to change any of these settings, click the Back button to
return to the screen you wish to change.
(Note: User Information (Name and Company) will appear only if
these fields were completed on the earlier Customer Information
screen.)

Once you have confirmed your choices, click Install.

When installation is complete, you will see the following screen:

Click Finish.

Now, its time to start the jet engine GUI. In Windows, go to

Start>All Programs>jet.engine GUI>jet.engine.gui.
The first time the jet.engine application is run, it will install a driver
in your Windows Printers & Faxes directory called V4 Jet Engine DPI
Printer. If prompted during installation, be sure you allow the
installation of this printer to take place.
After the inc.jet logo screen displays for a few seconds, you will see
the following screen:

The jet.engine GUI offers four levels of access (software modes).

The system default is Operator mode. For your Test Flight, you need
to change from Operator to Technician.
From the GUI menus, select Options, as indicated below by the small
red arrow. Then, select Software Mode>Technician.
These software modes can be password protected, but you wont need
a password for your Test Flight.

Click on the Form Design tab, as indicated by the large green arrow.
The following screen appears:

This is the job design-layout portion of the software.

In the diagram above, each of the objects used in this job is numbered.
The numbers correspond to a design-layout feature in the following list:
1 Fixed bitmap
2 Fixed message
3 Record block
4 Field block printing a Code 128 bar code rotated 22
5 Number generator
6 Field block printing an address and a postnet bar code from the
database
7 Dynamic Bitmap
8 Fixed bitmap rotated 40

and select Properties. Youll see the full capability and range of
options of the Number Generator, which includes various counting
methods, check sums, bar codes, rotations, and so forth.
Detailed information about the Number Generator and its features is
available using the GUIs on-line Help system.
To access on-line Help, either click on the Help icon
on the tool
bar, or use the F1 key on your computer keyboard. Select the Search
tab, and type in a keyword for the subject about which youd like more
information.
Examine each of these different objects in detail, and refer frequently
to on-line Help for each of them. Feel free to explore the power of the
jet.engine! Once youve examined the functions of the different
layout objects, return to the Form Design screen with the original job
shown.
Using the arrow keys on the left side of the tool bar, you can scroll
through the data and preview any records in the demo job.

14

Now, lets print a copy of this job.

From the File menu, choose Test Page> Print Preview. The GUI
shows you how the demo job will appear in print, allowing you to
check your design before production starts.

Click on the Print button, as indicated by the arrow.

From the next screen, you can select a printer (if your PC is networked,
youll see the networked printers, too), as well as indicate the number
of copies to be printed.

select Landscape for the Orientation. Click OK and then OK again
on the Print screen. The print process begins, and the job prints.
