The purpose of this document is to detail the setup and operation of the jet.engine
Fuel.tank Add-on DLL.
2.0 Installation and Setup

2.1 Introduction
This section addresses installation and setup of the Fuel.tank Add-on DLL..
2.2 Installation
2.2.1 Obtain the Files
To obtain a copy of the v1.5 Alpha GUI and Fuel.tank Add-on DLL, please do one of the
following:
Download from the ftp site (Engineering Beta Releases)
Contact your OEM provider
Contact inc.jet support
2.2.2 Installing the File

The files are compressed (zipped). Backup your old copy of the GUI and unzip both files
to the main (root) folder where the jet.engine GUI exists on the hard drive. The
jet.engine GUI software installation program installs itself to the C:\jet.engine.gui\
folder by default.
2.2.3 First Time Setup

The Alpha version of the Fuel.tank software is NOT compatible with previous hardware
configurations. To create a new configuration file:
If the jet.engine GUI software is not already open, start the software.
Configuration called FuelTank.

configurations.
Close the jet.engine GUI software.

Navigate to the FuelTank configuration folder
(c:\jet.engine.gui\SystemConfigurations\FuelTank) and delete the hardware_config.dat
and System_config.dat files.
The software is now ready to run using the FuelTank configuration (it will automatically
re-create the deleted configuration files).

3.0 Operation
3.1 Introduction
This section will briefly review the Fuel.tank Add-on DLL operation and the interaction
between the jet.engine GUI and Fuel.tank Add-on DLL software. The Fuel.tank Add-on
DLL is detected and loaded by the GUI whenever the software is run. To disable the
Fuel.tank Add-on, remove the Fuel.tank.dll file from the GUI directory and re-run the
GUI.
3.2 Fuel.tank Setup

The Fuel.tank Add-on DLL installs the fuel.tank tab in the GUI. This tab is used to
configure and track operation of the external fuel.tanks supplying bulk in to the Imaging
system.
Click on the Configure button to bring up the fuel.tank Configuration window.

The fuel.tank Configuration window will display:
Click on the Add button to create a new Bulk Cartridge. The available ink is
automatically set to 100 percent. Type in the desired name of the new cartridge in the
Name: field (here we use Bulk Supply 1). Select the Volume(ml) for the installed
cartridge from the drop down field (here we select 400 ml).
Click OK to save these settings.

The fuel.tank tab in the GUI will now show one bulk supply.

3.3 Pen Parameter Setup

After setting up the fuel tank bulk supply and physically connecting the ink
system (not covered in this document), it is time to setup the pens connected to
the supply. Click on the Set Pen Parameters button in the Pen Status Tab.

The Pen Parameters Window is displayed. Used the Pen Type drop downs to change
any pens connected to a Fuel.tank bulk to a Manifold pen (we change pen 1 here).
Note that an Ink Source is added to the right of the manifold pen. The default ink
source is disconnected select the ink source for the pen (we select Bulk Supply 1
here). Next, set the Available Ink to 62% for the manifold pen. The default pen life is
800 ml, so Inc.jet recommends the available ink be changed to 62% for a newly
installed pen during Alpha testing to set the pen life to 500 ml.
Setup of the Pens is now complete. Add any additional pens to the bulk supply as
required and click OK to store the settings.

The Pen Status display will now look as follows:
Note that the Manifold pen is displayed in Black. Also note that the estimated Volume to
empty is now displayed for each pen (this is a new feature).

3.4 Fuel.tank Operations

3.4.1 Monitoring Pen Status
During printing, the Pen Status tab will also be updated with pen status information.
Note that for every manifold pen, the black bar graph is showing pen life, as the pen
is attached in an endless supply of ink.

When the pen life has reached the alarm point, the bar graph will change from black
(or blue) to red. Note the large difference in Pages to empty for the two pens in alarm
state below. One pen is a Manifold pen, with 80 ml to end of life and the other pen is
a cartridge pen with only 8 ml to empty.

3.4.2 Monitoring Fuel.tank Status

During printing, the fuel.tank tab will display the status or the bulk ink
attached. The ink status displayed is based on pixel counting, using an
estimate of 30 pl per jet fired by every pen attached to the bulk supply.

When the fuel.tank bulk supply is low on ink this state will be indicated to the operator
by highlighting the fuel.tank tab with a red border. NOTE: No indication is made in the
Print Manager for a Bulk low state, and the operator must keep track of the fuel tank tab
to track the state of the bulk supply.

In general, the default alarms setup in the system provide the operator with plenty of
time to track the bulk ink usage when near end of life.

3.4.3 Replacing a Bulk Supply

Once a bulk has reached end of life, the software will set the ink remaining to zero
percent. The operator should now replace the ink supply with another unit.
When replacing an ink supply, simply click on the Configure button to bring up the
fuel.tank configuration window.

Once the fuel.tank Configuration window is displayed, select the name of the bulk to
reset from the list and click Reset to restore the available ink to 100%. In multiple bulk
systems, the operator can also use the Reset All Empty Sources or Reset All buttons.
Click OK to reset update the Fuel.tank configuration.

After a fuel.tank is updated, any ink used by the attached pens when the bulk was
empty will be removed from the new bulk. This is because the bulk will refill all the
attached pens as soon as it is attached.

3.4.4 Disconnecting a Pen

It is recommended to disconnect a pen when it reaches 4% available ink (about 32
ml) to allow the pen to empty during end of life. To disconnect a pen, click on the Pen
Properties button in the Pen Status Tab.

This will bring up the Pen Properties window. Since printing is ongoing, all entry boxes
are disabled except the disconnect button for each manifold pen. Press the disconnect
button to tell the GUI the pen has been disconnected from the bulk supply.
When disconnecting a pen, a warning message is displayed (you must click yes to
disconnect).
When a pen is disconnected, its status is changed to disconnect and it can not be
reconnected.

Then pen status for a disconnected pen does not look any different then a connected
pen. The disconnection only tells the GUI to stop subtracting ink from the fuel.tank bulk
for that pen. Once disconnected, the rest of the ink in the pen can be used until the pen
is empty.

3.4.5 Print Manager Pen Status

It must be noted again, that the Pen Status in the Print Manger Tab displays ONLY pen
status. The operator must look for the fuel.tank tab to turn red to warn of low ink state
in the bulk supply.
