tiger-s eyeIntroduction to the Meaning and Uses of Tiger's Eye

Tigers Eye is a most ancient talisman, mysterious and powerful, revered and feared
- an all-seeing all-knowing eye, thought to grant a wearer the ability to observe
everything, even through closed doors. It was chosen by the Egyptians for the eyes
in their deity statues to express divine vision, and was believed to provide the
protection of the sun and earth combined, of Ra, the sun god and Geb, god of the
growing land. Linked to the magical tiger, the king of beasts in Eastern mythology,
Tigers Eye portrayed courage, integrity and right use of power. Roman soldiers
carried it to deflect weapons and to be brave in battle. It has been highly regarded
throughout history as a stone of prosperity and good fortune, protecting ones
resources and reflecting back malice or threats from others. [Mella, 78][Eason, 107]
[Hall, 288-289][101 Hall, 204]

This marvelous stone of the Golden Ray is still as captivating as it was in the past,
with chatoyant layers that dance like shafts of light through a dense forest. It is
warm and radiant, synthesizing the frequencies of Sun and Earth, bringing stability
and awareness while integrating the spiritual with the physical realms. It teaches
balance between extremes, moving one out of the world of duality - right and
wrong, good and bad, dark and light - and provides an understanding of the
underlying unity behind apparent opposites. It brings a more practical and
compassionate reasoning to ones choices, and helps one to reflect Spirit through
each action taken in the world. [Ahsian, 399][Melody, 646][Hall, 288]

One of the most effective of the eye formation stones, Tigers Eye is ever vigilant,
bringing sharpness to ones inner vision and better understanding of the cause and

effect of each situation. It encourages one to use their powers wisely, and allows
scattered information to be brought together to a cohesive whole. Tigers Eye
supports necessary change in all aspects of ones life, strengthening the will and
clarity of intention in order to manifest at the highest level. It inspires creativity and
utilizing ones talents and abilities, and is superb for stimulating wealth and the
good judgement needed to maintain it. [Megemont, 177][Hall Cr, 69, 87][Hall, 288289][Melody, 646][Mella, 78]

Tigers Eye, or Tiger Eye, is a variety of macrocrystalline Quartz known for its
remarkable chatoyancy and rich layers of gold and brown color. It is thought to be a
pseudomorph of Quartz, formed as layers of Crocidolite, a fibrous blue asbestos,
were replaced over time by Chalcedony Quartz while still retaining the original
shape of the asbestos fibers. A later theory proposes a simultaneous growth of the
minerals through a crack-seal vein-filling process. In either case, iron from the
decomposed Crocidolite oxidized to its brown color, and reflection of the light on the
random fibers produces the gleaming chatoyancy. [www.gemdat.org]
[www.mindat.org][Lembo, 335][www.gemselect.com][Fernie, 311]

This page is dedicated to the golden brown variety of Tigers Eye Quartz and its
properties. There are other eye varieties of this mineral that share the same
general properties, with some additional ones.

Cats Eye Quartz - often used as another name for Tigers Eye, though it differs with
respect to the asbestos fibers; Cats Eye fibers are straight, lying in the same
direction, creating a single band of light across the stone like the narrow iris of a
cat. It may form in white, gray, green, yellow or brown Quartz. Historically esteemed
as the most powerful talisman of abundance and protection against the evil eye, it
also allowed one to become invisible, helping one see in the dark and negotiate
shadowy places with ease and safety. It is considered particularly beneficial for
children, accelerating the healing of illness, enhancing concentration for study, and
giving them a sense of security and courage. It strengthens willpower and helps
timid children to be more confident, especially when bullied or if they feel alienated
from peers. It may also assist them in creating harmony within a group or family,
helping them to feel more secure and loved. Green Tigers Eye is sometimes called
Cats Eye.

hawkseyeFalcons Eye (or Hawks Eye) - reminiscent of the eye of a bird of prey, this
blue-gray to blue-green variety is actually the phase in development of Tigers Eye
before Quartz replacement of Crocidolite has altered to iron oxide, retaining the
original gray-blue or green of the asbestos fibers. Falcons Eye is considered the
most authoritative of the eye stones, warding off nightmares, protecting one from
malice and jealousy, and providing deeper insights and awareness so one may see
beyond the obvious. It is a marvelous aid for increasing the sensory gifts clairvoyance, clairaudience, claircognizance, clairsentience, clairolfaction, and
clairgustation, and enkindles a link with cosmic forces that provide inspirational
guidance for ones life. It is a powerful stone for healing Earth energies and for
increasing self-understanding. It is grounding during chaotic situations and brings
issues into perspective, especially when placed on the Third Eye. Also called Blue
Tigers Eye.

Ox Eye (or Bulls Eye) - a mahogany or reddish variety of Tigers Eye that occurs
naturally when the golden brown variety is exposed to further metamorphic activity,
such as fire or lightning, converting the iron oxide into red Hematite. Associated
with the strength and courage of the ox, this stone is a fierce defense against any
form of bullying, and as an antidote of calm for use in situations or places where
tempers often flare and stress nears the boiling point. It is ideal for shoring up ones
inner strength, courage and self-confidence in order to tap into ones personal
power. It is a stimulating stone, replacing lethargy and procrastination with
enthusiasm and motivation, unblocking creative energy and inspiring ones inner
entrepreneur. It increases determination and aids one in implementing ideas into
action. It is also helpful for speeding up a slow metabolism and increasing a low sex
drive. Also called Red Tigers Eye.

Some Tigers Eye on the open market today, especially Red and Blue varieties, may
have been dyed or heat treated to enhance the color; however, this does not affect
the properties of the original stone. Tigers Eye is also a large component of
Pietersite, a brecciated stone composed of swirling Tigers Eye and Hawks Eye in a
Quartz matrix, and Tiger Iron, a banded stone composed of layers of Tigers Eye,
Hematite and Jasper. [Melody, 186-187, 645][Eason, 70, 227, 310][Hall, 290-291]
[Hall III, 266][www.mindat.org][Lembo, 332-333, 336][Mella, 78][Megemont, 176177]

diamond usesTiger's Eye Uses and Purposes

Keep Tigers Eye as a stone of luck and good fortune to attract a steady flow of
money to the home. It is ideal for entrepreneurs and those setting out in business
for the first time; also for those building up skills and a knowledge base for major
career changes in the future. [Eason, 107]

Tigers Eye warns against complacency and emboldens one to step out of the box
in order to grow and challenge ones artistic and creative talents, physical abilities
and trying something new. Use as a support stone for determination and to
overcome fear during exams, competitions, public performances, selling ones
creations in the market place, or presenting ideas in important meetings. [Hall, 290]
[Eason, 107][Lembo, 334-335] [Megemont, 177]

Wear or carry Tigers Eye for increasing insight and perception in unfamiliar places
or circumstances, and for protection from the negative intentions of others. Tigers
Eye sharpens the senses, helping one pay attention to details and prepare for
positive action. It reflects an overview of situations and assists when things are
happening too fast. It is one of the best aids for resolving a crisis, and provides
perfect support when one is afraid of making a wrong decision. Use for quick
thinking, sizing up someones character, and for realizing the consequences of ones
own actions. [Megemont, 177][Mella, 78][Gienger, 85][Eason, 107]

Draw on Tigers Eye to boost will power, emotional stability and energy levels when
working through lifestyle changes and health improvement routines. It reduces
cravings for the wrong kind of foods and helps decrease the need for binges,
excessive cigarettes, prescription drugs or alcohol. It also reduces anxiety caused
by feelings of isolation or inadequacy, and helps overcome discouragement to
persevere through the long haul. [Simmons, 399][Eason, 107]

Tigers Eye is a stone of practicality and balance, remarkable for soothing tensions
in families and relationships where differences of opinion or expression are causing
discord. It promotes harmony between people with diverse viewpoints, religious
beliefs or approaches to life to see both sides of an issue and find common ground.
It is a marvelous talisman for professional mediators, as well as anyone going
through difficult negotiations. [Simmons, 399][Ahsian, 399]

placed on either side of the head energetically rebalances the brains hemispheres,
and as this stone holds energy of the sun, may relieve seasonal affective disorder
and depression. It is effective for alleviating nightmares, and is reputed to relieve
asthma attacks and angina, and help lower blood pressure. [Ahsian, 399][Melody,

physical healing crystal uses Tiger's Eye Emotional Healing Energy

Tigers Eye is a remarkable ally for the mind, balancing emotional extremes and
allowing scattered thoughts, feelings and information to come together in a way
that makes sense. It brings focus and stability, enabling one to make decisions from

a place of reason rather than emotion. Tigers Eye is ideal for those who are spaced
out and uncommitted to find purpose; for those who find it difficult to remain
optimistic, it stimulates hope and confidence for the future. [Melody, 646][Hall, 289]
[101 Hall, 204]

Tigers Eye is highly beneficial for resolving dilemmas and internal battles,
especially those caused by jealousy, willfulness and pride. It teaches integrity and
right use of power, bringing an awareness of ones needs, as opposed to mere
wants, as well as understanding the needs of others. It is excellent for healing
issues of self-criticism and worth, and unblocks creativity so one may recognize
ones talents and abilities, as well as ones faults that need to be overcome. It is
highly supportive for an addictive personality, increasing personal will to affect
positive change, and anchors that change into the physical body. [Melody, 646][Hall,
289][101 Hall, 204]

chakra balancing with crystalsTiger's Eyer Chakra Healing and Balancing Energy
Tigers Eye grounds the energy of the Solar Ray into the Earth, stimulating the First
through the Third Chakras. It supports physical vitality, practicality, and maintaining
balance between extremes. [Ahsian, 399]

The Base, or Root Chakra, is located at the base of the spine, and controls the
energy for kinesthetic feeling and movement. It is the foundation of physical and
spiritual energy for the body. When physically out of balance the symptoms
manifest themselves as lethargy, low levels of activity, low enthusiasm, and a need
for constant stimulation. When spiritual energies are out of balance, one may feel
flighty, disconnected from reality or distant. When the Base Chakra is in balance,
the physical body regains its strength and stamina, and the spiritual energy is
rekindled in the form of security and sense of ones own power. It often leads to
independence and spontaneous leadership.

The Sacral Chakra, located below the naval and above the pubic bone at the front of
the pelvis, controls the flow of energy and is the center of gravity of the body. It is
the center of the Life Force of the body, and controls the flow of information from
the body to the mind and from the mind to the body. Gut feelings, intuition, and
other "non-linear" communication comes from this chakra. When it is out of balance
symptoms manifest themselves as confusion, over dependency on others,
repression of feelings, inability to feel joy, fear of sensuality or sex, and frustration.

When the Sacral Chakra is in balance one has grace, feels pleasure in life, and
experiences the flexibility to "go with the flow" and do so in good spirit.

The Solar Plexus Chakra is the energy distribution center and the chakra of
relationships. This chakra is located between the ribcage and navel, and controls
the immune and digestive systems. When balanced physically, we have strength to
fight infections, are free of allergic reactions, and are able to use the nutrients we
ingest. When the Solar Plexus is out of balance spiritually, we feel fear - of the
disappointment or displeasure of others, or to subordinating our life and pleasures
to the will of others. Spiritually, when the solar plexus is in balance we are free to
interpret the world through our own thoughts and emotions and not live in fear of
violating the dictums of others.

Lore_and _legend of crystalsTiger's Eye in Ancient Lore and Legend

Throughout the ancient world of the Orient, no gems were considered of more
interest than phenomenal gems, those that when cut properly, created a moving
line or shifting star pattern. They were considered to always bring good fortune to
the wearer. Cats Eye stones were thought to be more effective when worn on
Thursdays, and were also given for a 39th wedding anniversary. [Kunz, 333-335,
337]

Tigers Eye may have been known in ancient history as Wolf stone, and possibly as
oculus belus, dedicated to the Mesopotamian god Belus. Deemed to be all-seeing, it
was regarded as a stone of protection and good luck, used to heal eye diseases and
help one see in the dark. In Chinese medicine, it restored yin and yang energies.
[101 Hall, 204]

Tigers Eye was linked with the magical tiger, the king of beasts, in Eastern
mythology, and Roman soldiers wore it in battle for bravery and to deflect weapons.
To the ancient Egyptians, it offered the protection of the sun and earth combined, of
Ra, the sun god, and Geb, god of the growing land. They also placed the glittering
stone in the eyes of their god image statues to express divine vision. [Eason, 107]
[101 Hall, 204][Mella, 78]

A popular good luck stone, Tigers Eye/Cats Eye was used to ward off the evil eye,
and to reflect back any malice or threats without absorbing any negative energy. It
was used a great deal in voodoo rituals. Holding a Tigers Eye was also used to
discern if someone else was reliable or not. Traditionally it was believed by the end
of the day, any deception would be revealed. [Megemont, 177][Eason, 107]
