Summary & Overview

TORAH
o Genesis 37:1 | Joseph Dreams of Greatness
o Genesis 37:12 | Joseph Is Sold by His Brothers
o Genesis 38:1 | Judah and Tamar
o Genesis 39:1 | Joseph and Potiphar's Wife
o Genesis 40:1 | The Dreams of Two Prisoners

Last week we looked at Jacobs Conversion where he found YHVH in the

enemy he faced. The outcome of this encounter was a changed character and
a new name. Jacobs offspring became the mighty Nation of Israel and through
him, will come the seed of Messiah.
This Torah Portion starts with Joseph feeding the flock in the field with his
brothers when he was 17 years old. 17 = 10 + 7 where 10 mean fullness and 7
means plan of YHVH. This gives the meaning that Joseph started to walk in the
fullness of his plan of YHVH when he was 17 years old.
Joseph [cvy consists of a yod y, which means Spirit or hand of YHVH,
and a vav v meaning man. Then followed by a samech c that means to
rest, to lean upon, to support, to uplift, it symbolises a wedding ring as well, and
lastly a pey [ meaning mouth.

Prophetic Application: This gives us the meaning that Josephs life had the
invisible hand of YHVH upon him, that supported and uplifted him so that he
can be the mouthpiece that will proclaim the Words of YHVH. In the same
way is Josephs life a picture of Messiah, being the holy right hand of YHVH
(yod), Who came in the form of a man (vav) to support man through the
marriage Covenant (samech), He will seal with man, and being the Word,
rectify YHVHs Word (pey) that has been perverted by man.

1
The Coat of Many Colours.
Q - Why did Jacob love Joseph more than his other
sons?
First of all, Joseph was the son of his beloved wife
Rachel. Apparently, Joseph, not only was the spitting
image of his father, but he also looked uncannily like his
mother.
The Torah describes him with the exact same words as it
describes Rachel; she was yefet toar viyfat mareh
beautiful of form and beautiful of appearance (Genesis 29:17), and concerning
Joseph, it is written, Joseph was yefe toar viyfe mareh handsome of form
and handsome of appearance.
Secondly, Israel (Jacob) loved Joseph more than all his children, because
he was the son of his old age ben zekunim, that can be translated as bar
chakim (child of his wisdom), i.e., the child who was most fit to receive and
perpetuate the deepest wisdom that Jacob had received from his fathers.
Because of this love, Jacob made Joseph a coat of many colours.
Q What does this tunic represent, why many colours?

We have always learned that his father have him a coat of many colours. Many
colours uses the word pas cp that can be translated as long coat. This long
coat (or coat of many colours) has more meaning that we think. There is a
connection between the coat and the Messiah:

1. The Messiah brought Truth or Light that is represented by the letter (Hey)
h. When we add this letter hey to the word pas we get the word
pisah hcp and it means Abundance.
2. The Messiah also brought Life that is represented by the letter (Chet) x,
and if we add the letter chet to the word pas, and we get the word
pey-sach xcp, that is the word pesach or Passover.
Prophetic Application: Firstly, Josephs coat represents Yshuas abundance
of life (Hey sound of breath/life) that is available through the work
represented by the pesach or Passover, the first of the Seven Festivals
describing the Work of Messiah. Accepting the Passover Lamb of YHVH will
also allow you to receive the abundance of His Spirit (Hey Breath of life
Hey + Chet).
This is also an explains the connection between the symbolism of Josephs
coat being dipped in bleed and Yshuas robe is dipped in blood (Rev
19:13). The Chet x is connected to the Passover where it represents the
letter that was made when the blood was painted on the doorposts.

2
Joseph Depicting the Messiah
Joseph is the only individual in the Scripture that parallels Yshua the most
comparing all other Biblical characters.
Joseph [cvy means added. The first part (right spiritual) of his name is vy
that is yod-vav. Yod means YHVHs hand or Spirit and vav means man.
This gives us the indication of Spirit that comes upon man, that is another
meaning of anointing or anointed one. This is the meaning of the word
massiach that we know as Messiah or Christ, the Anointed One.
The last part (left - physical) [c is the word saph that means tall as well as
basin specifically the basin that held the blood of the Passover lamb. It also
means cup, that is normally used for holding wine.
Prophetic Application: These meanings again confirm the symbolism
connected to the Passover Lamb and the cup of the Covenant, that holds
the wine that is drank during the celebration of Passover. The other meaning
reveals to us that Joseph was made tall or lifted up, the same way
Messiah was lifted up on the cross when He shed His blood. Josephs life
was standing out tall, like a sign or a banner for all nations to see, so that they
can come into the Kingdom as they accept the blood of the Passover Lamb.
Here are a few more parallels between Joseph and Yshua to confirm this
prophetic insight:
o Joseph was the first-born son of His mother and became the beloved of
his father. Yshua is the firstborn the first Adam and beloved of His
Father. Rachael was barren, and Joseph was born through YHVHs
supernatural intervention meaning that he was a faith-child. Yshua was
born through supernatural conception by the Spirit.
o Joseph was one of twelve brothers, and Yshua was one from the nation
of Israel (twelve tribes).
o His brothers did not receive his word (dreams) and threw him in a pit and
sold him as a slave. Yshuas Word was not accepted by the religious
authorities, and He was sold for 30 pieces of silver.
o They told his father that a wild animal killed him. The people did not
accept Yshuas Word and He was taken captive and was killed.
o Joseph saved many people in a time of famine because of the dream he
interpreted, and Yshua saved the world by doing the will of His Father.
o Josephs brothers did not recognise him when they met him in Egypt,
Yshua is not recognised by the Jews, but He will reveal Himself to them
at the end.

3
Joseph the Dreamer
Gen 37:5-7,8-10 Now Joseph had a dream, and he
told it to his brothers; and they hated him even more.6 So he
said to them, Please hear this dream which I have
dreamed: 7 There we were, binding sheaves in the field. Then
behold, my sheaf arose and also stood upright; and indeed
your sheaves stood all around and bowed down to my
sheaf. 9 Then he dreamed still another dream and told it to
his brothers, and said, Look, I have dreamed another
dream. And this time, the sun, the moon, and the eleven stars
bowed down to me.
Q What do these dreams mean?
Hindsight is 20-20-vision, and since we know the end, we can easily see what
these dreams meant. But for Jacob, Josephs brothers and even Joseph, it was
a mystery that just caused conflict within the family, and his brothers even hated
him more.

YHVH revealed the future truth to in the form of a prophetic dream to Joseph
and only, later on, they could see what it all meant as it unfolded in their lifetime.
We have many opinions on the Book of Revelation, and there are many
teachings on how it might unfold but only time will reveal YHVHs prophetic
messages to us as the time draws near.
These prophetic dreams are about Joseph becoming like King that will bring
salvation to his own house as well as to many nations. 2 dreams were
confirming the same message and thus having two witnesses assuring that it
was the truth.
Personal Application: If someone gives you a prophetic word, do you accept
it as the truth and how can you know that it is from YHVH? The story of
Josephs dreams gives us the wisdom to know when it is from YHVH
confirming the truth by repeating the message or dream. In the same way,
you need another witness and confirmation from another source that confirms
the word you received, and if there is none, then the word is not from YHVH
because He will always confirm His Words with two or more witnesses. Do
not be deceived.
Another thing we can learn from this is that when YHVH speaks a Word, most
people will be offended by it. For example, the Salvation message is not well
received by Jews just like the dreams were not well received by Josephs
brothers. Josephs tribe, as we will learn, later on, depicts the Christians that
will be like a wild branch, growing over the wall into the field to reach the
nations, as prophesied by Jacob / Israel on his deathbed. Believers in Messiah
are not well received in Jewish circles because of their coat of many colours
that makes them different, but YHVH still used Joseph, being the younger son
to bring salvation to the older sons.

4
Joseph Visited His Brothers
Josephs brothers were tending their fathers flocks in
Shechem.
Q What is so significant about Shechem?
Shechem was the name of the prince of the Hivites who
raped Dinah. Shechem was the place where Abraham
built his first Altar after he crossed the Jordan. Jacob
was buried at Shechem Two hills with blessings and
curses were at Shechem. Yshua met with the woman at
the well at Shechem.
Maybe Jacob felt a bit uneasy with his sons feeding the flocks at Shechem
because of the incident with Dinah and then send Joseph to see if they were still
ok.
Joseph was wondering in the field when he met a man who directed him to his
brothers in Dothan. Dothan consists of the word da-at that means Law and
Dothan mean Double Law.
Q What can we learn for this?
Seeing it from a prophetic perspective, Yshua, depicted by Joseph, were sent
by His Father into the field (world), to see if the flock (His people) were still ok
being tended by his brothers (Teachers, religious leaders).
He did not find them in Shechem (shoulder) but in Dothan (double law).
Shechem represents a yoke that is placed upon the shoulder and relates to the
passage where Yshua said that His burden is light and His yoke is easy. He
came to this earth to find his people not under His yoke but under a double-yoke
or double law (Dothan), which was not His Will because He only gave one Law
and they added to His Torah.
Q What is the second yoke or law that is revealed here?
Matt 5:8-9 'THIS PEOPLE HONORS ME WITH THEIR LIPS, BUT
THEIR HEART IS FAR AWAY FROM ME. 9 'BUT IN VAIN DO THEY
WORSHIP ME, TEACHING AS DOCTRINES THE PRECEPTS OF MEN.'"
Isa 29:13 Wherefore YHVH said, Forasmuch as this people draw
near Me with their mouth, and with their lips do honor Me, but have
removed their heart far from Me, and their fear toward Me is taught by
the precept of men;
Deut 12:32 "Whatever I command you, you shall be careful to do; you
shall not add to nor take away from it.
Q What are the traditions and precepts of men?
The word Torah is mistranslated as Law and actually means
direction, the direction or way that leads to the Father. If you add
to the Torah, you create a new direction or way that leads to the
Father. Yshua is the Word of YHVH, the only Way that leads to the
Father and Paul says in 2 Cor 11:4 that they teach or bring another
Yshua, another way of salvation.

5
Another explanation of this is that the teachers of that day built fences around
the Torah, around every Commandment of YHVH so that the people could not
break it. These fences are in the form of additional laws that gives detail of
every possible scenario regarding that law on how you must obey it in order not
to break the Commandment. For example, there are a few laws in the Torah
regarding the Sabbath, but in the Talmud, there are over 1800 laws regarding
the Sabbath. These fences have put an enormous burden upon the people of
YHVH and caused them, either not want to follow Him, or when they follow Him,
carry the burden or yoke that man placed on their shoulders. This yoke is heavy
yoke to bear. The problem is that they teach these other laws as YHVHs
Commandments.
The problem with that is that the laws of man had the same authority as the
Word of YHVH and thus added to the Torah in that way. YHVH forbid us to add
to His Torah or to take away from it, and the same principle is also found in the
Book of Revelation.
Rev 22:18-19 I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy
of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues
which are written in this book; 19 and if anyone takes away from the
words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the
tree of life and from the holy city, which is written in this book.
Q Is it wrong to do certain Traditions?
Traditions are beautiful, and they can support our faith, but a tradition cannot be
taught as a Commandment. Traditions came into being because of all the grey
areas in the Scripture that does not give detail on how to do a certain
Commandment, and someone meditated on it and came up with a practical way
to do it, fulfilling the intent of the Commandment. Is that wrong or adding to the
Torah? No. Others in the community saw how it is done and later on everybody
did it that way as a community. Is this wrong? No. Later on, it was written down
and taught as a Commandment of YHVH. Now it becomes a Commandment
that is taught as a Commandment that YHVH gave and thus makes it wrong. As
you can see the intent and application was innocent and pure to make it
practical, but it was made wrong as soon as it was taught as a Commandment
of YHVH.
We all have an interpretation of the Word and express our obedience in a
personal, practical way that makes it your tradition that is beautiful in the eyes
of YHVH. Just do not say that your way is the right way and teach it to others
saying it is from YHVH thus adding to His Word. Tradition should always support
the Torah and not replace, add or take away from it.
Example: If you come to my home for a meal, and you see me eating with
my knife in my right hand and rebuke me saying that it is the wrong way to
eat, you are placing your tradition on me because there is no scripture that
gives detail on how to eat, and you are rude reprimanding me in my home
where you are a guest. Dont do that; it will repel people, and no one would
like to eat with you.
Josephs brothers saw him coming from afar and wanted to kill him, calling him
the master of dreams.

6
What they did not know, not even Joseph was that these dreams were given to
reveal their salvation, but it provoked them to jealousy and hatred. Dreams are
entirely spiritual and do not make sense at first, especially to spiritually blinded
people like his brothers.
Within Josephs dreams as well as Pharaohs dream, Joseph interpreted
YHVHs plan that would preserve and save the people of the land during a 7
famine. Nobody knew the famine was coming, not even Joseph.
If Joseph knew that he would be the saviour, he probably would have done
things out of himself to put things into place so that he could save his family and
others.
Everything that Joseph went through was planned and controlled by YHVH. As
things unfolded, Satan tried to stop him fulfilling his destiny, but YHVH used
those things as part of His Plan to make everything work out for good according
to His Will. It is as if Satan, as soon as he heard the dreams, understood that
YHVH had a calling on Josephs life and then planted seeds of hatred in his
brothers hearts so that they would kill Joseph and destroy YHVHs Plan.
Spiritual Insight: No ones sin or jealous act against you or every evil in the
world can come against you to prevent YHVHs plan for your life to come to
pass, except you. YHVH uses everything to make His plan to come to life. All
things work out for the good for those who love Him. Nothing that the world
can ever throw at you can prevent YHVHs plan for your life to become a
reality.
YHVH will use every attack or setback as an opportunity and
a stepping stone to raise you higher and make you the head
and not the tail, set you above and not below as revealed in
Deut 28.
Instead of killing Joseph, they sold him to Ishmaelites for 20
pieces of silver. Yshua was sold for 30 pieces of silver following
the prophetic pattern of Josephs life. 20 or 2 means Restoration
of Relationships and 30 or 3 means Covenant. They
slaughtered a goat and dipped the coat in the blood and
presented it to their father, asking him to identify please. We
will see this phrase later on in this portion.
Yshua will sit on a white horse with His robe dipped in blood,
just like Josephs life predicted, restoring the relationship
between man and YHVH through His Covenant. Rev 19:13.

Judah and Tamar

Chapter 38 seems not to fit where it is within this reading and tells the story of
Judahs life. This means that Judah, as well as Joseph, are prominent
characters and both have prophetic significance. Judah left his brothers, and it
was probably because of the grief of their father and the regret he had because
of what he and his brothers have done to Joseph. The family have been torn
apart emotionally, and they had to live with this burden for years to come.
Judah met a Canaanite woman, the daughter of Shua and married her. Shua
ivs that means a cry for help.

7
It is linked to the word ivsy yeshuah (salvation) when you add a yod,
becoming the name of our Saviour Yshua the Messiah, Who came from the
Tribe of Judah. Was Judah crying out for salvation or was this cry revealing the
Messiah, Who was to come from his lineage?
She conceived, and he called their first son Er that means awaken. I think
Judah repented from what he has done, and this is reflected in the name of his
firstborn, saying I got it, I understood what I did wrong. She conceived again,
and she called the second son Onan that means sorrow and complaining.
This was a reflection of Judahs life where he experienced sorrow for what he
has done and probably ended up miserable and complained a lot. She
conceived a third time and called the son Shelah that means disappointment.
Judah took a wife for his son Er, whose name was Tamar that means, palm
tree and this is a sign of hope because a palm tree typically indicates a place of
water in a desert. Er is the Hebrew letters ri Ayin

Resh, and if you turn them around, they spell yr

Resh Ayin that makes the word rah that means
evil. Er was evil in the eyes of YHVH and YHVH
removed him through death.
According to tradition, the brother of the deceased
had to take the wife of the deceased to ensure that
his brother still has offspring so that the family line
could continue. Onan took Tamar but refused to impregnate her, spilling his
seed on the ground. This caused YHVHs anger to flare up, and Omar died as
well. We see from all the names of Judahs sons that his life reflected sorrow
and disappointment that did not bear a lot of fruit, and he even lost his first two
sons as a result of this.
Q What does this mean, knowing that Judah represents the Jews?
Prophetic meaning: We are aware Judah was found in Dothan, that means
double-law, indicating they added to YHVHs Torah. Through Judas sons, we
see the consequence of adding to YHVHs Torah; a life that is full of sorrow,
disappointment and unfruitfulness. YHVH will not bless something that is not
from Him and the spiritual seed that is sowed that originates from man will
surely bear no fruit. Imagine what the Jews could have accomplished in this
world if they kept YHVHs Word as a nation throughout history.
YHVH allowed a spring of hope to come to Judah through Tamar, that means
Palm tree, representing water and shade in the desert or difficult times. In spite
of what Judah and his brothers did (selling Joseph - nailing the Messiah to the
cross), YHVH still has a plan for Judah and to give him a future in the Kingdom.
Last week we saw YHVH hiding within the the enemy that is approaching, here
we see YHVH hidden within the people that rejected the Messiah, namely
Judah. YHVHs plan of salvation does not always take on the form that we
expect, and we will see this unfolds as the story continues.

8
Judah went to overlook the sheep shearers, and
Tamar went before him, covered herself as well
as her face, and sat at the crossroad to meet
him as he walks past. Judah saw her and
thought she was a harlot and asked her to be of
service unto him.
She asked what he would give her. He offered a
young goat which he did not have with him. She
requested a pledge until he could pay. As a
pledge he offered his signet ring (authority), his cloak (protection) and his staff
(leadership), making him very vulnerable. How foolish can a man be in the
presence of a beautiful woman?
About 3 months passed and Tamar showed signs of her pregnancy that came
through the act of harlotry. Judah commanded that she was to be taken outside
and burned. If you look at the phrase take out to be burned and take the first
letter of each word of this phrase, it spells Yod Hey Vav Hey hvhy that is
the Name of YHVH. Last week we learned that YHVH is hidden within bad
situations. Tamar was in such a situation facing death, and yet YHVH was with
her, and she found salvation in His Name.
She brought out the signet ring, garment and staff and presented it to him,
saying, identify please. She used the exact same words Judah used when he
presented Josephs bloody coat to his father, Jacob. Three generations have
been deceived by a goat; Judah has been deceived by a goat, Jacob was
tricked by the blood of a goat and Isaac was deceived by Jacob with a goat.
Measure for measure, what comes around, goes around. The seeds you sow
will grow, and you will reap a harvest of the same nature. Judah remembered
what he did to Joseph and confessed. He said that Tamar is more righteous
than him. This has a prophetic meaning that the water of salvation that is to
come from Tamar (Yshua), is more righteous than the water of double-law
Judah presented. At the end of time, Judahs eyes will be opened, and they will
weep and drink from the waters of salvation when they saw Whom they pierced.
Zec chapters 12 & 13.

Tamars Two Sons

Tamar bore two sons because she had twins in her
womb. One stuck out his hand, and they tied a crimson
thread around his hand. His name was called Zarah
xrz meaning shining. The second one then came out
first and breached or to break forth, and his name was
called Pehrets /rp, that means breach. Then the
one with the crimson thread was born second, indicating that he was born
twice, symbolizing the second birth or to be born again.
Prophetic Application: Joseph had two dreams; one has to do with the first
Coming and the second of the Second Coming. Yshua came to this world the
first time to establish His kingdom, where He was the hand of YHVH. Then
there was a breach until the Second time where He will come in His Fullness
of His Shining Zerach.

9
We are currently in between the Two Comings, in the breach and awaits his
full birth or appearance. How will we know Him the Second time, we will
look at his arm for the scarlet thread, the sign in His flesh indicating His First
Coming (birth), the One Whom they pierced.

Msssiach Ben Yoseph Messiah Son of Joseph

The Messiah will come, riding on a donkey.
Why a donkey. Well, it is a sign of humility,
because a King is riding on a horse.
Zec 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter
of Tsiyon! Shout, O daughter of
Yerushalayim! See, your King is
coming to you, He is righteous and
endowed with deliverance, humble
and riding on a donkey, a colt, the foal
of a donkey1. Footnote: 1Mt. 21:5, John
12:15.
This passage caused a lot of confusion in the Jewish circles because there is
another passage that says that the Messiah will come riding on a horse, a King
that will conquer their enemies that oppressed them at that time, that is why they
missed him. They were looking for the wrong signs to identify the Messiah, and
it is their religious leaders fault. This is the passage of Massiach ben David:
Dan 7:13-14 Behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of
heaven, and came to the Ancient of Days. and they brought Him near
before him. And there was given Him dominion and glory, and a
Kingdom, that all peoples, nations and languages, should serve Him: is
dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and His
Kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.
Q - Is He riding on a donkey or on a horse?
The answer is both. The first time He came as a humble servant Who died for
us, riding on a donkey. The second time He will come riding on a white horse,
the King that will come to defeat our enemies forever. He will then rule the earth
from the new Jerusalem forever.
The word for donkey the word chamor rmx and it also have the meaning:
to be troubled or be in turmoil or clay or wine.
The first time in Scripture where donkey is used in Scripture is where Abraham
went out to offer Isaac indication just that. Another place donkey is used is
where Joseph hid his cup in Benjamins sack. When you see the word donkey,
it shows us that there was turmoil and the people were in distress, going through
something bad. In all three these passages it is seen and confirmed that
Josephs brothers and Abraham. Yshua also went through great turmoil and
distress, and this is confirmed when He entered the City on a donkey just before
He was crucified. Sitting on the distress is the Salvation as if the Saviour is
hidden within the suffering we go through. This lesson seems to pop up every
time.

10
The outcome of the trouble, so to speak, shows us that the people involved are
being moulded as clay in the Fathers hands and that the outcome of the bad
situation will bring joy (wine). As you squeeze grapes (turmoil) you will reap the
joy of the wine it will produce.
There is a time described in the Book of Revelation called the Winepress (great
tribulation) where the remaining people outside the City on the earth, and they
will be pressed to produce joy (salvation) after this terrible period.
Rev 14:19 And the messenger thrust his sickle into the earth and
gathered the vine of the earth, and threw it into the great winepress of the
wrath of Elohim.
Winepress is the word yeqeb - bqy and has a yod y (Spirit or hand of

YHVH), a qof q (repentance, turning the head) and a bet b (house). You
will only enter YHVHs house if you have repented and have the sign of the
Covenant, the Spirit, in your heart.
