Liquids Removal Filter

The Liquids Removal Filter is a membrane filter that allows gas to pass through the membrane but not
liquids or particulate. Liquids that collect on the filter are drained out through the BYPASS port and are
passed out of the Analyzer through the SWEEP OUT fitting.
The SWEEP OUT valve should be at least partially open at all times to prevent excess liquids from
building up on the membrane filter. If the pressure drop across the membrane is too high, the
membrane will rupture and allow liquids and particulate to enter the Analyzer.
Pressure and flow decrease at the analyzer may indicate a filter that is clogged with liquids or
particulate. Increasing the pressure and flow will increase the pressure drop on the filter membrane.
The liquids removal filter is located inside the valve panel on the Model 100 or 200 TRACE analyzer. . The
connecting fittings are located on the outside of the cabinet. On the Model 50 the filter is located inside
the Tape Deck Panel.

To change the membrane:

Outlet
Valve
1. Disconnect the outlet tubing from the elbow fitting on the face

Panel
of the filter housing.
2. Using an allen wrench, remove the four (4) socket head screws.
3. Separate the two separator halves.
4. Use a pointed tool to remove the O ring. Take care to prevent
O ring injury.*

5. Remove the old membrane and discard it.
Screws
6. Place a single new membrane disk over the center of the
separator half.
7. Using light finger pressure (take care to prevent a finger nail from damaging the membrane)
hold the membrane centered while placing the O ring on the membrane over the O ring
grove.
8. Gently press the O ring to approximately of the groove depth in one location.
9. In a similar manner, depress the O ring in a location across from the location selected in the
previous step.
10. Repeat the two previous steps at different locations until all of the O ring is depressed to
approximately of its depth. The membrane should now be tightly stretched.
11. Replace the outlet separator half taking care to align the labels from each half. Failure to align
the two halves will result in improper separator performance.
12. Tighten the screws securely. This will force the O ring to the full groove depth.
13. Reconnect the tubing.
14. Place the analyzer in service as desired.

*If the O ring is damaged, replace it with a new O ring from the membrane kit.
