(Genealogy letter regarding Ada C Rice)

Dont know your relation to Ada C Rice, but she is my Grandmother's

Mother and have been frustrated that cannot find more information
about her or her husband FRANKLIN LEROY WORTHAN
(erroneously also spelled WARTHAN in the records)... they had
2 daughters - one of which was my Grandmother HELEN
MABLE WORTHAN born October 14, 1914 (also found in
records Mabel which is erroneous) who was married to Vance
Warren McCray (Vance W McCray). Helen and Vance had 4
children together Joyce 39 or 40?, who died at 4 years old
(when hit by a car while riding a pony during a parade), Royce
'41, Warren '46, Marla '47 = all living today (update Warren died in
2016).. cannot find Ada C Rice and Franklin Leroy Worthan
other daughters name - happen to know she lived in California in
her later years (and most of her life) and I had corresponded w/
her back in '86 or '87 after Helen passed away. My Grandmother,
HELEN, also corresponded w/ her sister up until she (Helen)
passed away in '86. They were not close but occasionally
(rarely) spoke on the phone w/ each other (grew up
separated/apart/strangers basically). If remember correctly
Helen told me that she met w/ her sister (Dorothy or Doris???)
one time in California, then maybe spoke on the phone once
every few years thereafter. In case you didn't already know what
happened to Ada C Rice and her husband they both died from
the SPANISH FLU EPIDEMIC which occurred around 1918-1920
here in the USA... now cannot find any death certificates or ANY
INFORMATION out about their deaths (found in newspaper
archives Harry came to take their bodies, to be buried in Cedar

Rapids but nothing further found, no gravesite info in Cedar

Rapids, etc) but from reading about the Spanish Flu - found out
that people were dying so fast and often so the
authorities(overwhelmed) frequently didn't have time to
'document' all those who perished during this time. This is the
only reason can gather that there are no death records of either
Ada or her Husband. Upon her parents deaths (Dec 1918, see
my saved files showing newspaper announcement of death, Ada,
Franklin, and her Mother all passed away within a day of one
another w/ Adas Father being the only surviving member in the
household), Helen and her Sister were taken by a horse and
wagon during the winter in Iowa to stay w/ other relatives - they
were separated from each other from this point, then throughout
the rest of their lives. Helen went to live w/ Harry B Worthan
(looks like it would have been her uncle). but I dont know who
her sister went to live with. Looking up Harry B Worthan in Iowa
for the 1920 census it lists my Grandmother in their household
(1920) as a 'foster' child. Harry and his wife lived w/ my
Grandmother Helen and Vance up until they both reached old age
and passed away. Harry was wood worker, and worked for the original
Rockwell-Collins (Cedar Rapids) founder making wood radio/electronic
cases (as reported by Royce who grew up living w/ Uncle Harry in same
house) So that is basically the story that have on Ada C Rice and
related family.
