So close and yet so far On Wednesday 22 June, Bafana Bafana faced France in Bloemfontein. This game was
the homeside’s last chance to advance to the next round. The local public viewing area
(PVA) at Ntwampe, Moroke was once again packed with local supporters.
Dressed in full supporters gear they waited while a new service provider sorted out the
last minute glitches with the bigger big screen. Just as some fans were about to think
they might miss the game the screen flickered to life. Literally two minutes before
kick-off everything was connected and working. The speakers were still being hoisted
and secured (see photograph below) as the game started. The day ended bitter sweet
with South Africa beating France 2-1 but failing to advance to the next round.

Door to door in
Mashifane Park

The Tubatse Police launched a door to door campaign in Mashifane park at Ga

Mashamothane on 17 June. The campaign was led by the head of the social crime
prevention unit at the Police sattion, Captain T P Nemaitoni. The purpose of the
campaign was to sensitize the community and businesses in the area about brglaries at
homes and theft of motor vehicles in the area. Pmaphlets containing safety tips and hints
to prevent housebreaking, theft of motor vehiles and car hijackings were distributed to
the community during the campaign.

of the 2010 financial year.
The restructuring process affected
some 840 people, representing one-quarter
of Anooraq’s own employee workforce.
Anooraq CEO Philip Kotze said that
the company was already experiencing the
benefits of its labour restructure
programme, reporting positive results at
its operations, in volume growth and unit
cost reductions.
Kotze noted that production volumes
were beginning to increase, with a steady
upward trend in month-on-month
production from April 2010 onwards.
Anooraq anticipated an increase in its
second-quarter production growth of not
less than 15% when compared with its
first-quarter production.
Meanwhile, the Bokoni concentrator
plant upgrade project was also
implemented during the company’s second
quarter.
The project encountered some
challenges, which resulted in greater-
than-anticipated mill stops and lower
recoveries than planned, but Kotze said
that all “teething problems” had been
addressed and that the concentrator had
returned to meet design parameter targets
with respect to recoveries and throughput.

One year for Tubatse FM

Tubatse FM celebrated the radio station’s
first birthday last week Saturday.
Presenters, listeners and fans gathered at
Lebowa Business Park in Burgersfort
where a number of speeches of
congratulations were given, preformers did
their stint and community organisations,
the Police and LoveLife had informative
sessions ready for the crowd.
Later in an interview, the Station
manager, Peter Masete told Platinum
Gazette that the radio station has
consolidated its position after the first
year. At this stage they have more than 20
000 listeners in the samll radius they
broadcast.
However, he says that the station plan
for a stronger signal towrds the end of the
year to inrease its reach in the area, while
it will also try to strengthen its capacity
with regards to news in te area. At the
moment the station offers a mixture of
music and talk radio with news thrown
into the mix.
At this stage the radio station is not
economically independent yet, and funding
from the MDDA is keeping it alive. Mr
masete says as the station increases its
broadcast reach in the area, more income
from adspend will make it financially more
viable.

Biking for Jesus

Local motorcycle clubs came together to attend the annual Biker Service at the AFM
Church in Steelpoort last week Sunday.
The church in conjuction with the Christian Motorcycle Association (CMA) hosts this
service. The CMA also raises money to buy Bibles which are distributed to bikers at the
various rallies all over the country. A special biker Bible is available at a cost of about
R30 each.
One of the women attending the service said: “Many people have misconceptions about
bikers. We are normal people and just because you ride a bike does not mean that you are
not a Christian”.

Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act (Act No. 28 of
2002) of the submission of a prospecting right application with
reference number: LP 30/5/1/1/2/2798 PR

Activity: Xstrata South Africa (Pty) Ltd submitted a prospecting right application
for all minerals in the magisterial district of Greater-Tubatse. The prospecting
application has been accepted by the DMR in terms of Section 16(2) of the
Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act (Act No. 28 of 2002).
The prospecting is proposed on the following portions of the farms:

Soccer action in Dresden

The Democratic Alliance (DA) hosted a soccer tournament in Dresden last week Sunday. While the action on the
field was enough to keep most spectators
entertained, some found a better way to
amuse themselves (see photograph left).

DA kicks off in Dresden
The Democratic Alliance (DA) hosted a soccer tournament for
Greater Tubatse on Sunday, 20 June.
Three teams played in the tournament which took place at
Dresden sports ground. A team from Leboeng first took on a team
from Dresden. Leboeng won this game.
Then a team from Maandagshoek played against Dresden.
In the end it was Leboeng that walked away with the trophy, a
replica of the World Cup (O, don’t let Sepp Blatter see this. Ed.).
The teams also received medals.
Such tournaments will be hosted all over the district municipal
area and the plan is to make this an annual event.
Dresden played in the yellow bibs, Leboeng in the white and
green stripes and Maandagshoek in the blue DA shirts.
