were deeply touched by the flag and note that we received today from Chad's fellow
Marines, who served with him on the USS Eisenhower. Special thanks to Joe

Just sayin'David Teitel 1968

Have no idea what you're referencing...super bowl long island???

Please give me some insight. ThanksBuffalo Bob Casale
It's meant to be a bit of a joke. It's Super Bowl 51 coming up in February...Since the NFL
uses roman numerals for the game logo, it becomes Super bowl LI. I admit it's a bit of a
reach, But I thought it was funny. Maybe I should stick to my day jobDave

basis for selecting 1955 as an opening date. It wasnt cast in stone but thats what we
used.

I was a Bacteriologist at Meadowbrook Hospital in 1968 and also

saw a 20ish female in an Iron Lung in a private room. It was shocking and disturbing.
She was completely enclosed except for her head. There was a mirror in front of her to
make communication easier.

A Nativity Scene was erected in a church yard.
During the night the folks came across this scene.
An abandoned dog was looking for a comfortable, protected place to sleep.
He chose baby Jesus as his comfort.

No one had the heart to send him away so he was there all night.
We should all have the good sense of this dog and curl up in Jesus' lap from time to time.
No one mentioned that the dog breed is a "shepherd!"

Dear Classmates and Alumni Foundation Members

I wanted to publicly express my sincere and grateful
appreciation to John Ciarelli, Esquire for his generous donation of time and
legal expertise over the past two years resulting recently in the HIcksville High School
Alumni Foundation, Inc. receiving its IRS-issued 501
( c ) 3 federal tax exemption certificate.
With this federal tax exemption certificate, individuals and businesses can now
financially support the foundation's ambitious goals and then deduct those donations off
their tax returns.
John Ciarelli was also a member of the HHS class of 1964 and when I approached him
for help getting the alumni foundation this important designation, he gladly accepted this
time consuming project with no cost to our organization.
The HHS Alumni Foundation has several important goals including financially
supporting a male and female student empowerment program currently being created by
Mr. Ray Williams, HHS principal. Also recognizing that Hicksville has many families
struggling financially, the foundation wants to create a "dress for success" fund to provide
high school seniors with appropriate new professional clothing apparel when they go on
internships and job interviews. Members of the high school marching band could use
new uniforms. Finally, the foundation would like to create more scholarships for
deserving graduating seniors.
John Ciarelli is a quiet hero of the alumni foundation and I believe he deserves some
public recognition now for his generosity. Many of the above mentioned goals now have
a good chance of becoming accomplished due directly to his successful efforts.

Eeny, meeny, miny, mo

Catch a tiger by the toe
If he hollers, let him go
Eeny meeny miny mo
Eeny meeny miny mo is one of those rhymes thats ingrained in our cultural limbic
systemonce we hear the first two syllables, the rest unspools whether we want it to or
not. No one knows what eeny or meeny might mean; everybody knows what eeny
meeny means. It turns up in strange places: in Pulp Fiction, in the Great Vermont Corn
Maze, in Justin Bieber songs. But where did eeny meeny come from? Kipling tells us that
Eenee, Meenee, Mainee, and Mo / Were the First Big Four of the Long Ago, but thats
not such a good lead.

A look back at the class of 1961 Senior Trip

A look back at the class of 1961 Senior Trip

When the Music Stopped...

For those who are unaware:
At all military base theaters, the National Anthem is played before the movie begins.
I recently attended a showing of 'Superman 3' here at LSA Anaconda. We have a large
auditorium that we use for movies as well as memorial services and other large
gatherings. As is the custom at all military bases, we stood to attention when The
National Anthem began before the main feature. All was going well until three-quarters
of the way through The National Anthem, the music stopped.
Now, what would happen if this occurred with 1,000 18-to-22-year-olds back in the
States? I imagine that there would be hoots, catcalls, laughter, a few rude comments, and
everyone would sit down and yell for the movie to begin. Of course, that is, only if they
had stood for The National Anthem in the first place.
Here in Iraq 1,000 soldiers continued to stand at attention, eyes fixed forward. The music
started again, and the soldiers continued to quietly stand at attention. Again, though, at
the same point, the music stopped. What would you expect 1,000 soldiers standing at
attention to do? Frankly, I expected some laughter, and everyone would eventually sit
down and wait for the movie to start.
No!!. . . You could have heard a pin drop while every soldier continued to stand at
attention.
Suddenly, there was a lone voice from the front of the auditorium, then a dozen voices,
and soon the room was filled with the voices of a thousand soldiers, finishing where the
recording left off:
"And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air, gave proof through the night that
our flag was still there. Oh, say, does that Star Spangled Banner yet wave, o'er the land
of the free, and the home of the brave."
It was the most inspiring moment I have had in Iraq, and I wanted you to know what kind
of U.S. Soldiers are serving you! Remember them as they fight for us!

Robert Coles, a Pearl Harbor Survivor, returned to Hawaii for the 75th Anniversary of the
attack on Pearl Harbor to honor those who died defending our country on Dec 7, 1941.
Bob has not been back to Pearl Harbor since World War II ended. The State of Maine
collection fund raised the sum of $13,000 for him to make the trip. Mr. Cole is a retired
Chief Radioman who was at Pearl Harbor during the attack and will be attended a
memorial service at the site of the sunken USS ARIZONA..

A guy looked at my Corvette

the other day and said I wonder how many people could have been fed for the money that
sports car cost. I replied I am not sure, it fed a lot of families in Bowling Green,
Kentucky who built it, it fed the people who make the tires, it fed the people who made
the components that went into it, it fed the people in the copper mine who mined the
copper for the wires, it fed people in Decatur IL. at Caterpillar who make the trucks that
haul the copper ore. It fed the trucking people who hauled it from the plant to the dealer
and fed the people working at the dealership and their families. BUT,... I have to admit, I
guess I really don't know how many people it fed. That is the difference between
capitalism and welfare mentality. When you buy something, you put money in people's
pockets, and give them dignity for their skills. When you give someone something for
nothing, you rob them of their dignity and self worth.
Capitalism is freely giving your money in exchange for something of value.
Socialism is taking your money against your will and shoving something down your
throat that you never asked for. I've decided I can't be politically correct anymore. (I
never was, actually)Tom Nicholson and shared by Glenn Hayes 1975

Dear HenryThank you so much for your information, and, no I don't normally put my
entire message in the subjectsorry about that. I would be thrilled to join. Tell me what I
need to do. I do know the whereabouts of a few people that I have not seen in the group.
Lorraine Strozak graduated with me in 73 and she went by the name of Tiny and is
living in Atlanta Georgia. I did recently find out that another classmate Wayne Mogavero,
who became a vet, was living in Florida passed away two years ago. I am looking for
Mary Ann Murphy and Salvatore Buscarino both class of 1973. I don't know what
information you would like about me so if somebody can contact me, I can gladly do
whatever it is that this group does. I was quite thrilled and pleased when I came upon it
because there was no place like Hicksville and I grew up on Burns Avenue. I went to
Burns Avenue Elementary and then Hicksville Junior High and Hicksville High James
Konen, my ex husband graduated in 1972 and he is living in North Carolina. Phil
Gianfortone is also in North Carolina. I am one of four sisters who all graduated from
Hicksville High. Diane McCormick she was class 1971 and she's living in Cape Cod
Massachusetts. Gail McCormick, class of 1977 lives in Stony Brook and Suzanne
McCormick was class of 1984 and Susie lives in Wantagh. I made all of these people
aware that I was going to forward you their information. I did receive a message from
Cheryl indicating that I could now comment on the Hicksville High site. Thank you in
advance for your help. Regards Carol
Hi CarolSorry for taking so long to respond to your enthusiastic response. You are now
officially a member of HixNews, which features a monthly Newsletter that we publish
online at the beginning of each month. Like everyone else, you will receive an email
announcement when the new issue is available online (I issue these email
announcements). I have been very busy this month, so I haven't had time to process the
rest of the info you provided, but I promise that sooner or later one of us editors will get
around to all of your info and get back to you on that. Best wishesHenry

Hi Henry thank you for all your help... There must be a way to donate money for all the
work everyone does I volunteer for some worthy causes and there's always room for
improvement by donations. Let me know where and the amount. RegardsCarol
Hi CarolThank you for your offer to make a donation, but that won't be necessary. We

is a labor of love. HixNews is a not-for-profit project. BestHenry
Hi CarolAs I mentioned in my first response to you, I have subscribed you to our

51 years ago today, I got the best Christmas gift ever....our son, Clifford III. And, after 10
short years, God decided he needed his angel back. Though your time on earth was so
very short, you touched so many lives and beautiful memories are engraved on my heart.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Cliffy.
I want to thank all my friends for the kind words and condolences on the passing of my
wonderful brother

Vinnie Luna. To use a word said by my sister-in-law Barbara so many times, we were all
totally blindsided by this. Diagnosed with cancer on Nov. 4th, gone on Nov. 16th. Totally
incomprehensible and totally devastating. He was such a terrific person, never hesitating
to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He married his high school sweetheart, Barbara

Jabour....together for 51 glorious years. They raised three beautiful daughters and have
eight fabulous grandchildren. His was a life well lived and he will be sorely missed. Rest
in peace, Vinnie...we love you.
