Sung-Yow has a secret. He could paint a picture and make it come alive!
This only happened when the painting was finished. Sung-Yow loved to paint
dragons. He left out their eyes because he didnt want them to come alive. In
this way his secret stayed a secret.
The king heard that Sung-Yow was good at painting dragons. He asked
Sung-Yow to paint four dragons on a wall. In three days the painting was
almost finished. The dragons looked like they could jump off the wall. They
didnt jump because Sung-Yow had left out their eyes.
People came from far away to see the paintings.
The dragons look so real, they said.
But where are their eyes? they asked.
If I dotted the eyes, the dragons would fly away, said Sung-Yow.
Everyone laughed. No one believed him. Sung-Yow was not happy. This
time he would NOT leave out the eyes. He painted little black dots on two of
the dragons.
Crash! Crack! the wall split open. Two dragons jumped off the wall.
Sung-Yow went on to become a very famous artist with a very famous secret.
In China when someone adds a finishing touch to a work, people might
say Draw Dragon Dot Eyes.

The judge asked, Dear boy, if you had not seen the donkey, how could you
describe it? The boy answered, I saw the tracks of a donkey and the right and
left tracks were different from this. I understood that the donkey that passed

Once upon a time, on the banks of a river, Turtle played her flute. When Turtle played,
all the animals listened. Lions, elephants, butterflies, snakes and monkeys danced to Turtles
music. One day a man heard Turtles music. Ahh, he thought, that must be Turtle making
music. Turtle would taste very good right now. So he called out, Turtle! Show me your
beautiful flute. Turtle slowly walked to him and held out her flute. But the moment the man
saw Turtle, he grabbed her by the neck and began to run. Turtle tried to cry for help, but she
couldnt make a sound. She closed her eyes, holding tightly to her flute for good luck.
When the man reached his hut, he put Turtle into a cage and shut it. Then he turned to
his children. Dont let Turtle out of her cage. And off he went to the fields. The children
began to play outside. Turtle sat very still inside her cage, thinking about the mans words.
She began to play a sweet tune on her flute, and the children ran to the cage. Is that you
playing, Turtle? they asked, their eyes wide with wonder. Yes, Turtle said. She kept on
playing, for she could see the children were delighted. At last she stopped. I can dance even
better than I can play, she said. Would you like to see? Oh, please! the little boy cried.
Ill show you how to dance and play at the same time, said Turtle, but you must open the
cage. There is no room in here.
So the little child opened the cage and Turtle began to dance and play. The children
laughed and clapped their hands, for never had they seen such a wonderful thing. Then Turtle
stopped. Dont stop! the children cried. Oh, Turtle groaned, my legs are stiff. If I could
just walk a little bit to loosen them ... Dont go too far, the little girl cautioned. Come
right back. Never fear, said Turtle. You wait right here. Turtle crawled off toward the
jungle. The moment she was out of sight, she raced all the way back to her house. Nobody
ever found Turtle again. But to this day, if you stretch your ear, you can listen to the sweet
sound of a flute in the forest.

THE ASS, THE FOX, AND THE LION
An Ass and a Fox went into partnership and went out to search for food
together. They hadn't gone far before they saw a Lion coming their way, at
which they were both extremely frightened.
But the Fox thought he saw a way of saving his own skin, and went boldly up to
the Lion and whispered in his ear, "I'll manage that you shall get hold of the Ass
without any trouble, if you'll promise to let me go free." The Lion agreed to this,
and the Fox then rejoined his companion.
Before long it managed to lead him by a hidden pit, which some hunter had
dug as a trap for wild animals, and into which he fell. When the Lion saw that
the Ass was safely caught and couldn't get away, it was to the Fox that he first
turned his attention, and he soon finished him off, and then at his leisure
proceeded to feast upon the Ass.
