What is NIR Statistics Quiz?

The First Negros Island Statistics Quiz is a regionwide contest designed to test the knowledge of
statistics of Grade 11 senior high school students
enrolled in public and private schools in region.
The 2016 Negros Island Statistics Quiz is the 1st in
the series.
What are the objectives of the NIR Statistics Quiz?

The objectives of the NIR SQ are:

1. To assess the competency and skills of
students in statistics as acquired from the K12 curriculum;
2. To promote, enhance, and instil awareness
and appreciation of the importance and value
of science, statistics, among the students, and
3. To generate public awareness on the
importance of statistics in all developmentplanning activities and win overall support for
all government statistical activities.

Results of the contest can also provide indications

of the effectiveness of the statistics component of
mathematics as a subject of the K-12 curriculum.
Who may compete in the NIR Statistics Quiz?

The Negros Island Region Statistics Quiz (NIR SQ) is

open to all first-time Grade 11 senior high school
students currently enrolled for the school year 20162017 in any recognized high school institution in the
region. First-time Grade 11 senior high school
students are those who have enrolled for the first
time in senior high.
Contestants are entitled to one coach. The coach
must be officially endorsed by the academic
institution where the contestant is enrolled.
Interested students and coaches should register with
the Regional Secretariat. The number of contestants
should not exceed two contestants per school.
Relatives within the third degree of consanguinity of
the 2016 NIR SQ organizers are not eligible to
participate in the contest.

What is the significance of NIR Statistics Quiz?

What are the prizes at stake?

The NIR SQ identifies and nurtures talents in the

field of statistics. It contributes to the advocacy in
the use of statistics for evidence-based decision
making.

The top three winners shall receive a trophy,

certificate of recognition and the following cash
prizes:

1st Place PhP 3,000.00
2nd Place PhP 2,000.00
3rd Place PhP 1,000.00
Likewise, the coaches and the school where winners
are enrolled shall receive Certificates of Recognition.
