1.

PURPOSE

1.1

The purpose of the present Standard Specification is to make specific selections and
to provide additional requirements in the frame of the national, international or
manufacturer's standards on which the motor design is based.
Therefore, the requirements of this Standard Specification are not exhaustive, being
only connected to some topics of special interest.

1.2

The requirements are addressed to the motor manufacturers and to the suppliers of
equipment (systems) that includes electric motors. Some of them are also of
interest to the power station designers.

1.3

Specific requirements connected to the interface with the ambient environment


(corrosion resistant material, surfaces protection, noise) are not considered here.
Some of them are subject to other guideline documents of the Israel Electric
Corporation Ltd., included in the Project Specification.

2.

SCOPE

2.1

The requirements of this Standard Specification apply to single-speed three-phase


squirrel-cage type, induction motors for general use, with a rated voltage up to and
including 1000V.

2.2

Excluded from the scope of this Standard Specification are:


a. Motors for use in hazardous locations, where additional specific features are
required.
b. Motors designed for specific applications, e.g. motors for variable speed drives,
actuator motors, submersible motors.

APPLICABLE STANDARDS

3.1

The electric motors included in the Scope of this Standard Specification have to
comply with the requirements of one of the following national or international
standard groups:
a. International standards - IEC

(International Electrical Commission).

b. American standards:

- ANSI (American National Standards Institute),


- IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers),
- NEMA (National Electrical Manufacturers Association).

c. Israeli standards

- SI

3.2

The electric motors complying with standards other than indicated in Para. 3.1 may
be accepted by Israel Electric Corporation Ltd. The corresponding standards in
English version shall be submitted with the Bid.

3.3

In case of non-conformance between the present requirements and those of the


national or international standards or those of the Project Specification, the order of
precedence shall be as follows:
1. Project Specification

SERVICE AMBIENT CONDITIONS

4.1

The altitude of the power stations does not exceed 1000 m above the sea level.

4.2

The expected ambient air temperature outdoors is:


- Maximum: + 40C
- Minimum:
- 10C
The expected ambient air temperature indoors is indicated in the Project
Specification.

4.3

The seismicity conditions are stated in the Project Specification.

4.4

The outdoor motors are expected to be exposed to long dry periods without rain,
sometimes with very fine sand dust, changing suddenly to periods of high humidity
and rain.

4.5

The outdoor motors might also be exposed to a moderate combination of conductive


or abrasive dust (such as coal dust, fly ash, etc.) with sulfur smokes, moisture, etc.,
as encountered in usual power plant applications.

4.6

The outdoor motors at sea shore locations are expected to be additionally exposed
to coastal conditions with salt laden spray and storms.

4.7

The outdoor motors might be exposed during summer days to very intense solar
radiation, unless special protection, such as superposed roofs, is provided.

4.8

More severe ambient conditions than those indicated may be stated in the Project
Specification.

RATING AND PERFORMANCES

5.1

The rated frequency is 50 Hz. The rated voltage is 400V AC.

The motors shall operate successfully and shall develop their rated torque
continuously without damage under the following voltage and frequency variations:
1. Applied voltage:

- between 0.9 and 1.1 p.u. of the rated voltage, with rated
frequency.
2. Applied frequency: - between 0.95 and 1.03 p.u. of the rated frequency, with rated
voltage.
c. Simultaneous variations of the voltage and frequency in the above indicated
ranges are also permissible, but the motor manufacturers are allowed to make
some restrictions when both voltage and frequency deviations are close to their
limits.
5.3

The motors shall be capable of momentary operation (for a minimum 60 s) under


running conditions at rated load and frequency with a minimum of 75% of rated
voltage at their terminals.
This requirement takes into consideration the voltage drops due to the start of other
motors or due to automatic transfer operation.

5.4

The motors shall be designed, built and adequately braced for direct-on-line starting,
with full rated voltage applied at their terminals.

5.5

For the motors designed according to the Project Specification requirements, the
ratio of the starting current to the rated current at rated voltage should be as low as
possible.

5.6

The motors shall withstand the dynamic torque stressing due to the switching
phenomena (direct-on-line starting, short-circuit followed by transfer to another
source and re-acceleration).

5.7

The starting performance of the motors shall comply with IEC 60034-12
requirements.

CONSTRUCTIONAL CHARACTERISTICS

6.1

Enclosure and bearings

6.1.1 The motor enclosure shall be designed according to IP55 degree of protection
(Totally Enclosed Water-Proof motor).
Painting and corrosion-resistant materials, suitable for the ambient conditions
indicated in the paragraph 4 of this Standard specification or in the Project
Specification, shall be used for the enclosure.
A special attention shall be paid for the outdoor motors.
6.1.2 The following solution is required to be used as motor cooling method:
a. The primary coolant shall be air, self-circulated in a closed cooling circuit
(Totally Enclosed motor).
b. The heat will be transferred to the secondary (final) coolant through the frame
surface of the motor to the external air, by using or not an external mounted fan/s
(TEFC and TENV motors).

In this Standard Specification, the meaning of the following abbreviations is:


TEFC
- Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled motor;
TENV
- Totally Enclosed Non Ventilated motor.
6.1.3

The bearings shall be protected by a dust-proof and water-proof enclosure according


to IP55 degree of protection at least.

6.1.4

The bearings with oil lubrication shall be fitted with a sight gauge marked with the
proper oil level and shall have fill and drain openings. When oil rings are used,
means shall be provided for observing oil ring rotation while the motor is operating.
The bearings with grease lubrication shall have grease valves for lubrication while
the motor is running.

6.1.5 Where insulated bearings are required as a protection against the occurrence of
shaft currents, one or both bearings shall be insulated, in consideration of the motordriven equipment assembly.
At motors with one shaft extension, at least the bearing opposed to the driven
equipment has to be insulated.
At motors with two shaft extensions, both bearings have to be insulated, as well as
one of the shaft couplings.
Generally, piping and conduit to insulated bearings shall also be insulated.
6.2

Windings and Insulation

6.2.1 The rotor squirrel-cage shall be made copper, copper-alloy bars or die-cast
aluminum.
6.2.2 The stator winding insulation shall be of Class F at least, but the temperature rise
shall correspond to Class B conditions.
6.2.3 The motors of 200kW and larger shall have form wound coils and a sealed Vacuum
Pressure Impregnation (VPI) insulation system with epoxy resins. These motors
shall withstand an immersion type test as required by NEMA Standard MG1-2006,
12.62
6.2.4 The motors smaller than 200kW may have form wound or random wound coil.
The motors with form wound coil shall have a sealed VPI insulation system with
epoxy resins that withstand an immersion type test as required by NEMA Standard
MG1-2006, 12.62.
The motors with random wound coil may have a moisture resistant VPI insulating
system or an other type of insulation designed to be moisture resistant.
6.2.5

The six (6) terminals of the three (3) phases of the stator windings shall be brought
out in the main motor terminal box for testing purposes.

Monitoring Provisions
The required monitoring provisions (if any, according to the motor size) shall be
indicated in the Project Specification and shall be chose according to the following:

6.3.1 The following temperature monitoring devices may be required:


a. The Stator winding.
a.1 Minimum six (two for each phase) Resistance Temperature Detectors (RTD),
uniformly distributed.
The RTD's shall be embedded in the stator slots as follows:
- If there are two or more coil-slides per slot, the RTD's shall be located
between the insulated coil-sides within the slot.
- If there is one coil-slide per slot, the RTD's shall be located between the
wedge and the outside of the winding insulation.
a.2 Minimum three (one for each phase) thermistors.
b. Bearings.
One RTD for each bearing.
Instead of RTD's, thermocouples may be provided.
The temperature monitoring devices of the bearings shall be installed as close as
possible to the heat generating surfaces and shall be located preferably in the
bottom half of the bearing housing.
6.3.2 The three-lead RTD's shall be of platinum Pt 100 (100 Ohm at 0C).
6.3.3 The thermocouples (if used) shall be chromel-constantan (E) type.
6.3.4

The preferable solution is to provide adequate two-wire transducers (for RTD's,


thermocouples, etc.) with output 4-20 mA.
The transducers shall be mounted into appropriate motor terminal boxes. Electrical
connections of the transducers shall be made on terminal blocks conveniently
located for external wiring.
For motors with great vibration, the transducers may be installed in a box mounted
outside of the motor.

6.3.5

Provisions shall be made for installation of vibration detector/s (e.g. proximity


probe/s) in agreement with the drive equipment manufacturer.

6.3.6 Rated operational current of the monitoring devices electrical contacts (if any) shall
be defined in the Project Specification.

Anti-Condensation Space Heaters

6.4.1 Anti-condensation space heaters single-phase 230 V, 50 Hz shall be provided in all


the motors of the following types:
a. Indoor motors rated 200kW or 250HP and larger.
b. Outdoor motors rated 30kW or 40HP and larger
The space heaters shall have sufficient capacity to keep the motor windings and
internal parts dry when the motor is not running.
6.4.2 The space heaters and their connections shall be protected against accidental
contact with the personnel, but shall be accessible for service and replaceable in the
field.
6.4.3 Flame retardant insulated wires shall be used for the space heater connections.
6.5

Terminal Boxes

6.5.1

The terminal leads of the motor windings, of the heaters and of the monitoring
devices shall be connected to terminals in separate terminal boxes (one for each of
the lead groups indicated above).
Each terminal box shall have a corresponding mark or an indication of the purpose.

6.5.2

The terminal boxes shall be largely sized, with sufficient space for an easy
connection of the incoming cables.

6.5.3

The direction of the cable entrance in the terminal boxes, especially for the
main terminal box, shall be adjustable in the field and changeable at a later date.

6.5.4

The main terminal box and the corresponding cable entrance shall be sized not only
for the cable cross-section required by the rated current of the motor, but also for an
increased cross-section that may be required in order to comply with the fault
current criteria.
For large cross-sections, single-phase cables shall also be considered.
The size of the cable has to be indicated in the Project Specification.
For the motors larger than 100kW two (2) cable entrances shall be provided.

6.5.5

The degree of protection of all terminal boxes shall be IP55 at least.

6.5.6

The holes in the terminal boxes for cable entrance shall be hermetically sealed for
shipment.

6.5.7

Motor main or accessory leads that pass outside the motor enclosure shall be
protected against mechanical damage.

6.6

Miscellaneous

6.6.1

The motors with rated outputs of less than 5kW shall have an earth terminal in the
main terminal box. It shall allow the connection of a ground conductor of 10 mm2.
The motors with rated outputs 5kW and larger shall have two earth terminals:
a. One earth terminal inside the main terminal box for connecting a conductive cable
shield or a cable ground conductor
b. Second earth terminal fitted on the frame.
The size of the earth terminals shall allow the connection of the following ground
conductors (cooper):
a. If the phase terminals are sized for conductors
smaller than 16 mm2:
b. If the phase terminals are sized for conductors
of 16 mm2 and larger, but less than 120 mm2
c. If the phase terminals are sized for conductors
of 120 mm2 and larger:

6.6.2

10 mm2
50 mm2
95 mm2.

Every motor shall be provided with a rating plate(s), made of durable


material.
The plate(s) shall be mounted and marked according to IEC 60034-1,
paragraph 10 (Rating plates).
The following additionally data shall be marked on the rating plate:
- the efficiency class (EFF1- according to Annexure 4 attached to this
standard specification) or the efficiency value in percent.
-the total weight of the motor (if exceeding 30kg) and the weight of the rotor
(if exceeding 100 kg) shall be marked on the rating plate.

6.6.3 The motor serial number shall be additionally punched on the enclosure.
6.6.4 The weight of the rotor (if exceeding 100 kg) shall be additionally punched on
the end of the rotor shaft.

7.1

TESTS AND TOLERANCES


The following type tests shall be performed:

7.1.1 For the motors designed according to the Project Specification requirements:
a. Measurement of locked-rotor torque and current.
b. Determination of speed-torque curve.
c. Determination of speed-current curve.
d. Temperature tests, including bearing temperatures.
e. Measurement of rated-load current and slip.
f. Determination of power factor at 100%, 75% and 50% of rated load.
g. Determination of efficiency at 100%, 75% and 50% of rated load.
h. Seal windings-conformance test as required by NEMA Standard
MG1-2006, 12.62 (for motors of 200kW and larger).
For motors designed according to IEC Standards, equivalent tests may be
accepted by the Israel Electric Corporation Ltd.
j. Measurement of airborne sound for the motors rated 200kW and larger.
When duplicate motors are provided, the tests shall be conducted on one motor
only.
7.1.2 For catalogue motors, that have already undergone the above indicated tests, only
the corresponding type test report, data and curves shall be supplied.
7.2

The following routine factory tests shall be performed on all motors completely
assembled in the factory:
a. Measurement of winding resistance.
b. Check of direction of rotation versus phase sequence.
c. Measurement of no-load current and losses.
d. Measurement of mechanical vibrations.
e. Measurement of insulation resistance and polarization index.
f. Measurement of bearing insulation resistance on motors supplied with insulated
bearings.
g. Power frequency withstand test.
h. Check and tests of the accessories.

The following field tests will be performed by the Purchaser's personnel, on all
motors, during commissioning:
a. Check of direction of rotation versus phase sequence.
b. Measurement of no-load current.
c. Measurement of mechanical vibrations.
d. Measurement of insulation resistance and polarization index.
e. Measurement of bearing insulation resistance on motors supplied with insulated
bearings.
f. Check of the accessories.
Discrepancies between the results of the field tests versus the results of the same
factory tests will be reported to the Contractor and it shall be in his responsibility.

7.4

Other type and routine tests required by the manufacturer's standards shall also be
performed.
The Bidder shall include with the Proposal a complete list of tests.

7.5

The following list contains the acceptable tolerances relative to the values agreed
upon in the Contract:
a.1. Efficiency (according to Summation of losses method):
- for motors of 150 kW and less

-15% of (1- )

- for motors larger than 150 kW:

-10% of (1- )

a.2. Efficiency (according to Total loss measurement method):


- for motors of 18.5 kW and less

-15% of (1- )

is also acceptable.
b. Power factor:

-1/6 of (1-cos ),

but only in the range

from -0.02 to -0.07,

c. Slip at full load and at working temperature:


- for the motors less than 1kW:

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR MOTOR SELECTION

8.1

The service factor of the motors meeting the provisions of the American Standards
ANSI, IEEE and NEMA shall be equal to 1.0 (one).

8.2

The efficiency of motors with rated output higher than 0.75 kW shall be at least equal
to the values specified on Annexure 4 to this standard specification.

8.3

The motors shall be selected in order to be capable of starting, accelerating and


bringing the rated load of the driven equipment to the rated speed, at rated
frequency, while the provided the voltage at the motor terminals is not less than 80%
of the motor rated voltage.
The limit of 85% (instead of 80%) may be specified in the Project Specification or
may be accepted by the Israel Electric Corporation Ltd., if the voltage drop in the
supply path during the motor start can be correspondingly limited.

8.4

The motors with continuous running duty shall be selected in order to withstand
either of the following start sequences:
a. Three successive starts with the motor initially at the ambient temperature.
b. Two successive starts with the motor initially at the full load operating temperature.
The motors will revert to rest between starts, without intentional cooling interval.
The starts are supposed to be with the full load torque and inertia moment of the
driven equipment, at rated frequency and with the minimum start voltage at the
motor terminals indicated above.

8.5

The margin between the start current-time curve and the thermal limit curve of the
motor shall be sufficient to allow adequate over-current protection in the whole range
from zero to rated speed.

MOTOR TECHNICAL DATA AND DOCUMENTATION


The Contractor shall supply all the technical data required for selecting/checking the
motor in connection with its functions, mounting and maintaining it and designing the
motor supply (including start conditions, bus transfer, short-circuit contribution and
protection of the motor and of the supply path).

9.2

In the Proposal stage, the Contractor shall fill in and submit the Low Voltage Data
Sheet of the motor (s) according to the Annexure 2 attached.

9.3

In the Contract stage, the Contractor shall update and complete all the required data
in the Low Voltage Motor Data Sheet.

9.4

The Summary of Data (Annexure 3 attached) shall be filled in and submitted to the
Purchaser's approval after the signature of the Contract.

9.5

The Technical Documentation (drawings, curves, etc.) required in the Summary of


Data (Annexure 3 attached) shall be submitted to the Purchaser's approval before or
together with the Summary of Data.

9.6

The Instruction Manuals shall be submitted to the Purchaser according to the


schedule defined during the Contract stage.
The Instruction Manuals shall include at least the following:
a. Identification data of the Project and motor(s).
b. Low Voltage Motor Data Sheet (Annexure 2 of this EPD).
c. Instructions for storage, installation, operation and maintenance of the motor(s).
d. Electrical and mechanical drawings of the motor (s).
e. Test reports.
f. Spare parts list.

Check List concerning data that must be included in the Project Specification
(For the design engineers of Israel Electric Corporation Ltd.)
The following data has to be indicated in the Project Specification (The numbers in the
parentheses refer to the appropriate paragraph of this Standard Specification):

indicated shall be not less than +40C (4.2).
