“My Pals are Here! Maths” for the academic year 2010/2011.

Marshall Cavendish Education together with Mentari Books present “My Pals are Here!
Maths” intensive full day training, it will be conducted in 2 parallels of P1-3 and P4-6
sessions. The training will be conducted by 2 highly experienced teacher trainers from
Singapore.

About My Pals are Here! Maths – Teacher Training Programme

To ensure that our teachers are well supported and equipped with the knowledge to
deliver the Mathematics programme effectively, we have put together a training that is
designed to ensure that teachers develop the pedagogical understanding and classroom
delivery skills needed to teach the four broad areas of mathematical knowledge around
which the maths syllabus is organised (Number Sense, Fractions, Measurement, and
Geometry).

Objective of Training:

Effective Teaching Strategies on How to Teach ‘Number Sense’ for Lower and
Upper Primary
Session I – Lower Primary (Primary 1 – 3)
Trainer : Ms. Ling Yuan

Session II – Upper Primary (Primary 4 – 6)

Trainer : Dr. Yeap Ban Har

About Our Trainers

Ms. Ling Yuan

Ms. Ling Yuan is currently serving as a Head of Department in a primary school in
Singapore. She has a Masters degree in Education, is trained to teach pupils in the Gifted
Education Programme, and is a Primary Education generalist. Ms. Ling has conducted
many workshops on the teaching and learning of Science for educators locally and
internationally to promote more purposeful and engaging learning. She has also published
papers on constructivism in the teaching of Science as well as concept mapping in
journals such as the Journal for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and Asia
Pacific Journal in Learning and Teaching. For her active sharing, Ms. Ling was conferred
as an ‘Associate of Teachers Network’. She was also one of the finalists for the
Outstanding Youth in Education Award.

Dr. Yeap Ban Har

Dr. Yeap holds a Master of Education and Ph.D in Mathematics Education. He teaches
mathematics education at the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological
University in Singapore. He is a very reputable Maths workshop leader, respected within
the region and in the USA. He has conducted numerous workshops for teachers in
Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Hong Kong, China, the United States of America and
United Arab Emirates. He authored a series of pre-school books that integrate children’s
literature and mathematics as well as a problem-solving heuristic book for PSLE level. He
had received the Excellence in Teaching Commendation Award from his university
(NIE – Singapore) for three years in a row since 2006.
