P.I. (30 points) An emergency valve (Fig. 1) is pressed against
seat using two helical springs, concentrically arranged. The main
4 cap screws
dimensions of the springs are given in Table 1 (where subscript
M5Lx
1 is assigned to the outer spring and subscript 2 is assigned to
the inner spring)
After mounting, when the valve is seated (exhaust closed) both
springs are compressed at Li=80mm. During operation, the valve
plate
travels 10 mm up. It is required:
a) Sketch, on the same graph, the characteristic curve of each
spring indicating the two operational points (closed
valve
respectively opened); sketch also the characteristic for the
seat
assembly of springs
b) Calculate the load required to mount the valve
c) Calculate the axial force necessary to open the valve
d) Calculate the maximum stress in each spring

The adjustable plate 2 which provides the compression force on


the springs is linked with the body by 4 cap screws ISO M5(see
Table 2 for ISO metric dimensions).
e) Assuming that the thickness (height) of the cap screw as
well as of the corresponding nut is h=4mm, recommend the
necessary length of each screw, Lx. (g=8mm)
f) Sketch the screw with nut and jam nut assembly.
g) Estimate the stiffness of each screw after mounting
(E=2.1106MPa).
h) Indicate how many turns must be tighten the screw to
preload the springs.
i)
Assuming the friction coefficient =0.15...0.25 estimate
the total torque required to tighten the screw.

Mecanismul din figura alturat este folosit pentru ridicarea unor greuti mari (pn la

compus dintr-un ansamblu de prghii articulate acionate n dou moduri:
a) pentru micarea n plan vertical se folosete acionarea hidraulic;
b) pentru micarea n plan orizontal, un sistem mecanic de tip urub-piuli (transmisie cu urub de micare) la care acionarea
urubului este realizat cu un motor electric pas-cu-pas.
Articulaiile prghiilor sunt realizate cu boluri cu cap asigurate la cellalt capt cu aibe plate i tifturi de siguran. Dimensionarea
bolurilor s-a fcut din solicitarea de contact (strivire). Prghiile sunt realizate din table de oel rigidizate cu nervuri sudate cu arc
electric. Grosimea cordoanelor de sudur este de 3mm.Principalele avantaje ale acestui mecanism sunt: gabarit redus, manevrare
uoar, consum redus de energie i pre de cost redus.
