Executive Summary
Overall, League of Legends, as the only game to be put out by Riot Games, has a very
strong place in the game industry at the moment, being known as the top most played
game in the world. There are some threats and weaknesses to the game, but for the most
part, the game consistently sees an upward trend, with more and more gamers playing as
the years go by.
Strengths
- One of the, if not the largest gaming community in the present day.
- Free to Play
- Has a very well-known brand name.
- Very thriving competitive scene
- Accessible on most computers, regardless of specs.
- Innovative multiplayer mechanics
- Achieved server stability
Weaknesses
- Balance team has been often criticized for either over-nerfing or over-powering,
but not having an actualbalance per patch.
- Criticized for not releasing certain content, such as sandbox modes and in-client
replays
- Notorious for having a toxic community in-game.
- No single player or campaign mode.
Opportunities
- Competitive scene continues to grow and attract big name sponsors.
- High interest around the world
- Adding new servers and updating clients
Threats
- Overwatch
- Failure to follow up on promises to update client
- DOTA 2 and Runescape relaunch
Recommendation
Right now, the game is going through testing for a new client, set to
release at the end of the current game season. My recommendation
would be to push any sort of previously and heavily requested material
such as an in-client replay mode and sandbox mode for when that
client would be released. This would definitely impact the well-being of
the player base and competitive scene.
