Lojas Riachuelo S.A., IT & Business Intelligence (BI) Department

So Paulo, Brazil
ERP & Business Intelligence General Manager

(04/2005 12/2006)

Lojas Riachuelo is the second major fashion retailer in Brazil. The company has 100
stores and 12 million registered clients (via Riachuelo private label credit card) spread all
around the country. The company also has manufacturing and logistics operations on its
own. Nowadays Riachuelo is also creating a Bank operation on its own (Midway Bank).
The company counts on 13 thousand employees. The company's revenue per year is
around US$ 10 billion.
The ERP & Business Intelligence division is responsible for collecting, organizing and
deploying all strategic data from all corporate operations to directors (including the
president) and other vertical business managers in order to provide them the most
accurate support decision services. The ERP & Business Intelligence division operations
starts with the very organization of the related BI solutions (applications, databases),
passing through the architecture design of the ERP+BI environment (connections between
hardware, applications and databases), passing through business understanding and
modeling (processes design and redesign), data modeling, and report design and
deployment (data access).
My responsibilities as the general manager were: 1 - To maintain all ERP & BI operation
running; 2 - To interact with other areas of the company (tech driven and /or business
driven); 3 - Select the right technology for the ERP & BI operation; 4 - Select projects
along with the business managers; 5 - Manage the selected projects; 6 - Manage the
relationship and operations along with the external solution partners (for example: SAP,
IBM, Informatica, Business Objects, Cognos, Microstrategy, Fair Isaac, etc).
My accomplishments:1 - Increase Credit revenue in the financial operation (via
storecard/private label) from 2% (two percent) up to 25% (twenty five percent) in
60 days, by providing a new-designed campaign process (Marketing Campaign

Management), the proper analytics environment (BI), and the proper client approach to
the finance department of Riachuelo.2 - Build a complete ERP & BI environment,
which means a revamped R/3 environment plus an Enterprise Datawarehouse
(EDW) and a complete store-analysis Datamart plugged into the EDW structure in
only 120 days(!). This ERP & BI environment on its first version has all the 12 million
registered clients, all the 100 stores, all the 2.0 million products and all the transactions
(revenues) of one year period, resulting into a 200 million registers size EDW database
coming from the revamped R/3 environment. Note: The EDW database besides being
huge is also accurate and precise. Its precision reaches the "cents" level. The mentioned
BI environment (EDW+Datamart) was built on the SAP Netweaver platform. 3 - Build a
complete CRM in-house solution, in order to automate all the marketing
campaigns. The ERP & BI environment (R/3+EDW+Datamart) and the mentioned CRM
solution brought a SOA (Services Oriented Architecture) approach to the company.
Details: The implementation of the ERP & BI environment and the mentioned CRM
solution were coordinated by a Methodology called Concentric Harmonic Cycles,
CHC, which is my creation (100%). Due to the CHC Methodology approach Riachuelo
became the first company on Latin America to implement SAPs NetWeaver 2004s and
became Global Show-Case for SAP which assigned to personally observe the Case Mr.
Henning Kagermann (SAP Global CEO), Mr. Bill McDermott (President and CEO
SAP Americas, who actually came to Brazil to know the Riachuelo company , the
Business Intelligence Project and the CHC Methodology) and Mr. Shai Agassi
(SAPs Global President of Product & Technology, which asked me for a
presentation regarding the CHC Methodology exclusively. The presentation
happened on January 4th/2007 and took place in SAP Headquarters). Mr. Agassi
concluded that the CHC is "one level above" regarding other Methodologies like
Balanced Scorecard (which simply suggests you how to do it and
(dangerously) assumes that the clients IT platforms are all-organized and
aligned). CHC does not "suggests" anything. It SHOWS how to do it (thru a step
by step execution sequence on a clear time-frame). CHC does not ASSUME
anything. It ALIGNS the IT platforms. (More details about CHC Methodology in
the Patents and Intellectual Properties session, further on).
