STOP CYBERBULLYING
Have you ever been bullied online? Bullying, in its many forms, is becoming an extremely
hazardous problem that many individuals endure. Bullies torment others because they themselves
have insecurities, have been bullied themselves, or have a mental illness that brings out the worst
in them. Nevertheless, bullying can physically and emotionally destroy the victim, whether it is
by physical abuse, cyber bullying, or verbal abuse. Nowadays, physical bullying is becoming a
very serious and detrimental problem. Not only does physical bullying scar the person
emotionally, but it can also scar them physically.
Some people nowadays view cyber bullying as just an expression and truthful facts about that
certain person they bullied. For them, they only express themselves through social media and
tend to fight online because, people have much courage when it comes to social media rather
than in personal. 3 out of 10 people said that they bully because either they hate that certain
someone or they seek attention/reaction coming from other people. They are often motivated by
anger, revenge or frustration. Sometimes they do it for entertainment or because they are bored
and have too much time on their hands and too many tech toys available to them. Many do it for
laughs or to get a reaction.
A person who experienced cyber bullying can damage their mental health. It is said that a person
who experienced being bullied and being insulted by many people can lead to depression.
"Suicide" is what comes to their minds when they got bullied and they can't handle it anymore.
The headline took my breath away. In a town close to mine, a 15-year-old had committed suicide
due to cyberbullying. Bullying has always been with us, especially during the middle school and
high school years. Adolescents who feel uncertain of their own self-worth, who worry about their
standing among their peers, or who just plain have a mean streak have put down the shy, the
weak, the less accomplished, fashionable, or with-it kids probably for as long as there has been
such a thing as adolescence.
Technologys progression is often equated with the advancement of human societies. Pivotal
innovations, such as the Internet, have forever changed how people interact. Though these
developments have allowed the human race to make great strides in many fields, they have also
allowed forms of transgression to become more rampant and widespread. Cyber-bullying can be
even more debilitating than direct bullying, with victims feeling like there is no escape.
Serious offences of cyber bullying can be dealt with under either criminal law or defamation law.
Any threat, even if only a joke, made through any of the mediums mentioned above is illegal
under the Telecommunications Act and can be prosecuted under criminal law. Any acts of
defamation are not a police matter but can be pursued as a civil matter. In both cases the offended
party should block the culprit and collect evidence, particularly if it is intended to report the
offence. All I can say Stand up and say no to cyberbullying
