In 2015, ASEAN countries have a consensus of founding the ASEAN Economic Community

(AEC). Like EUROPEAN, AEC is founded to utilize the sum-up power of ASEAN countries for vastly
development in the future. However, to develop the south-east Asia region, problems must be solved first.
The more problems figured out, the more stable the society is. Recently, the ASEAN is having many
problems about environment, sanitary, education, health, etc.; and one of the current but life-long issue is
about women inequality.
Women inequality has been a serious problem in many countries, especially ASEAN. Influenced
by Chinese culture, many ASEAN countries underevaluate the potential power and contribution of
women in the process of building and enhancing the prosperity of the society. On the other hand, women
are not only responsible for rules attached to the label of their gender such as manners, houseworks,
bringing up children but they also need to earn for a living as equal as men. They have to do so much
but their contribution not yet be considered worthly. Besides, they have many burdens mentally and
phisically, and after some shocking incidents, some find the sole way to rescue themselves: suicide. These
problems are increasing day by day. It is not decreasing much when our society and technology develop;
briefly, it did not turn out as we thought. Thus, there must be actions for enhancing the position of women
in ASEAN countries.
When conceiving that the world is in need of sustainable development, the United Nations has
given out 17 SDGs for 2030, the world will be a better home for humankind. The targets of SDG 5 th is not
only to protect and prevent women from discrimination, violence, harness and harmful practices but also
encourage and ensure women roles in many other aspects like economy, politics, technology, These
targets create peaceful and sustainable environment for women in all ages live and express themselves
freely. ASEAN countries are also conducting many events and strategies to empower women roles in
many ways, so that the world can achieve this SDG.
In June 2016, when I participated in the Our Generation Youth Summit 2016 recently, my team
has brainstormed one campaign for solving this issue. The campaign name is WOMEN EMPOWER, and
we want to create a playground for educating and enhancing the thought of gender equality for Ho Chi
Minh City girl teenagers, age about 12 to 18 years old. In detail, the strategy will impact two aspects of a
teenage girl, mentally and physically. Girls will attend classes and workshops about gender equality,
accurate mindset, soft skills and technology, etc. Besides, they can enhance their strength, endurance
when attending in sport activities such as inside mountain climbing, trekking, football, swim, etc. These
classes will empower them strongly, so that they can determine their future more precise and
acknowledge well about gender equality. We hope that the campaign will be duplicated and spreaded
widely for ensuring gender equality.
