Telenor Pakistan

Ethics and anti-corruption in Telenor:

While making any decision, Telenor Pakistan has been ethically conscious. Since Telenor (the parent
company) has its origin in Norway, a society with a soft-oriented and feminine culture. Telenor Pakistan
acknowledged its moral and ethical duty towards its stakeholders and society. Telenor Pakistan will not resort
to bribery or illegal offers to accept any decision, values will not be compromised. If the organization believes
it is not ethically right, it will never take that decision. In most of the advertisement, they project themselves as
the care taker of the values of Pakistani people, so they claim to cherish the core cultural norms and values of
the Pakistani people. When the cartoon controversy arose, Telenor condemned such actions mocking religious
beliefs and portrayed this on their building.
Telenor endorses the ten principles of the UN Global Compact (UNGC), which present clear
standards of business ethics. As a member of the UNGC, Telenor report annually on progress
in embedding its ethical culture in all parts of their organisation. Telenor Groups
commitment to integrity and transparency is clearly stated in their Code of Conduct.
The Code of Conduct is the guardian of integrity within the Telenor Way and defines the
standards by which they conduct business and behave as responsible and accountable
representatives of Telenor. The document is signed by all employees upon joining the
company, and re-signed whenever substantial updates are made. Telenor is firmly opposed to
corruption in all forms and is committed to doing business in accordance with the highest
ethical standards. Telenors zero tolerance for corruption and its ethical standards are set out
in its Code of Conduct, Anti-Corruption Policy and other governing documents. Telenors
firm commitment to opposing any form of corruption requires a structured approach to
integrating ethics and anticorruption considerations across all functions and levels. Telenors
Group Anti-Corruption Policy states that Telenor shall actively attempt to ensure that
corruption does not occur in Telenors business activities. To this end, Telenor shall work
against corruption through an adequate and risk-based Anti-Corruption Programme based on
international best practice. This shall be implemented in all Telenors subsidiaries directly or
indirectly controlled by Telenor ASA. Telenor has an organization with clearly defined roles
and responsibilities for the implementation of the Anti-Corruption Programme, both at
Telenor Group and business unit levels. The Group Policy Anti-Corruption and the
effectiveness of the Anti-Corruption Programme are assessed and revised on a regular basis,
with the aim of alignment with prevailing international standards. A description of Telenors
Anticorruption Programme is publicly available on their web site.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR):
Telenor Pakistan acts responsibly and respectfully towards the people and authorities indifferent societies and
aims to contribute to social and economic development in the local market. This is the essence of Telenor
commitment to Corporate Responsibility. They take seriously the social, ethical and environmental impact of
their products and services. Telenor place emphasis on making sure that the communities in which they
operate see Telenor Pakistans as a good citizen with genuine ambitions to contribute to social and economic

development. They give their employees reasons to be proud of the way Telenor Pakistans demonstrates
Corporate Responsibility.
Emergency Response Program:
In order to respond immediately and effectively to emergencies/disasters, which may occur in Pakistan,
Telenor Pakistan has launched an Emergency Response Program. Regional Go-Teams (consisting of Telenor
Pakistan employees) have been trained to extend support and timely intervention if and when needed, free of
cost. The type of emergencies that these Go-Teams will respond to include all natural disasters, such as
earthquakes, floods, air/rail/road accidents etc.
Especially trained Go-Teams:
move into the affected area
align with emergency teams on site
set up an alternate mode of communication
arrange to provide high-energy food items
medication
blood donations (when required)
Community Support DUA Foundation:
DUA aims at providing support to a hundred earthquake orphans...
Telecom Features:
Telenor Pakistan launched Telecom Futures in collaboration with Nokia, Siemens, and TEVTA
(Technical Education & Vocational Training Authority)
Apna PCO:
Apna PCO, a unique community pilot project aims at bringing access to the most disadvantaged rural
communities in the country.
Naya Qadam:
Telenor Pakistan in collaboration with Disabled Welfare Association (DWA) -- one of the country's
foremost welfare organizations for the disabled launched its Naya Qadam project on 3rd December
2007.
Meri Helpline:
Their Corporate Responsibility unit launched 'Meri Helpline' emergency phone service in a ceremony
held in Karachi. The project aims to help street children by offering the first of its kind emergency
phone service where children in distress can call and seek expert help.
Blood Donation:
Telenor Pakistan and the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) launched Pakistans first-ever
mobile blood donor service, whereby donors with Telenor Pakistans mobile connections will be able
to register themselves in a blood donor database via SMS or Web
Environmental Sustainability:
Environmental awareness:

Telenor Pakistan has a limited impact on the environment compared to other industries of similar size.
Nevertheless, they are still systematically working to reduce their own environmental impact and
working at rolling out their network with a socially responsible approach.
Global Countdown:
Global Countdown (GC) was conceived by Telenor ASA with the aim of building young people's
communication and ICT know-how through an exciting role-play game. Telenor Pakistan introduced
Global Countdown as a part of their strategy to reach out for schools and create awareness among
students of their environmental responsibilities
Radiation Research:
Current research has not come up with anything to suggest that current mobile phone systems affect people's
health, but they still cannot rule out the possibility that they might do so. Radiation from mobile systems has
nothing to do with radioactive radiation. In this context, radiation refers to the radio waves emitted from
mobile phones and mobile antennas.
Conclusion:
Although Telenor Pakistan is doing well in the field of ethicality and corporate social
responsibility but they are lacking very much. They are not contributing too much when
something bad happens like any disasters etc. and by becoming too much ethical they
sometimes did wrong decisions. Their managers have to be so wise to handle smartly each
and everything if something happens. Like they have to be too much active in the field of
CSR like others. And they dont have to be too much feminine and ignore male gender.
