Problem 1.9 (Laws of addition and multiplication). Derive the following laws for
complex numbers from the corresponding laws for real numbers:
(commutative laws) z1 + z2 = z2 + z1 and z1 z2 = z2 z1 ;

Problem 1.16. (a) Prove that Re z | Re z| |z| and Im z | Im z| |z|.
(b) (Parallelogram equality) Prove
|z1 + z2 |2 + |z1 z2 |2 = 2|z1 |2 + 2|z2 |2 .
(c) (Triangle inequality) Prove
|z1 + z2 | |z1 | + |z2 |.
(d) Verify the triangle inequality for z1 = 4 + 7i and z2 = 5 + 2i.
