Analyzing Your Turnitin Report

The goal of Turnitin is for you to receive a Similarity Index of 24% or less on your Turnitin Report.
1. What if my Turnitin Report has a Similarity Index of 24% or less?
a. If your Turnitin report has a Similarity Index of 24% or less, great, you do not need to do anything further.
2. What if my Turnitin Report has a Similarity Index of 25% or more?
STEP 1:
a. If your Turnitin report has a Similarity Index of 25% or more, you need to do the following prior to submitting the final
version of the assignment to Dropbox for grading.
b. Review your assignment, note the percentage rate, and ask yourself the questions in the following categories below:

a. Internet Sources:
i. Have you inserted too many direct quotes and/or did you forget the quotations marks for word-for-word
material?
ii. Did you forget to cite content used from the internet?
iii. Make sure you have properly summarized, paraphrased, and/or provided direct quotes from internet

iv. Correct any of the deficiencies above and resubmit to Turnitin.
b. Publications:

ii. Correct any of the deficiencies above and resubmit to Turnitin.
STEP 2:
a. After correcting deficiencies, please RESUBMIT your assignment to Turnitin, UNTIL you receive a
Similarity Index of 24% or less.
b. If, after you have corrected your deficiencies, and upon your next submission to Turnitin, and your Similarity
Index is 24% or less, great, you do not need to do anything further with Turnitin.
c. If, after you have corrected your deficiencies, and your next submission to Turnitin has a Similarity Index of
25% or more, then please, repeat STEPS 1 and 2 until you receive a Similarity Index of 24% or less.
Please contact your professor if you have any questions regarding how to analyze your Turnitin Report, if you cannot get your
Similarity Index percentage to decrease despite following the guidelines above, and/or if you have any questions or concerns
that need further clarity.
