every
time
they
receive
a

with
their

or
shows
respect

Bonus Point
In
my
classroom,
if
I
see
a
student
following
the
rules
that
we
made
in
the
beginning
of
the
year
they
will
receive
a
Bonus
Point
in
the
form
of
a
train
ticket.
This
is
given
to
those
students
who
I
think
are
going
above
and
beyond
to
follow
the
rules
and
make
sure
others
follow
them
too.
This
ticket
allows
students
to
receive
an
extra
point
on
tests
or
quizzes,
or
as

ALL ABOARD THE LEARNING EXPRESS
April
2016
Dear
Parents/Guardians,
I
am
so
very
excited
to
have
your
child
in
my
class
this
year!
I
just
wanted
to
take
the
time
to
introduce
myself.
My
name
is
Ms.
Katie
Hostutler.
I
am
the
Kindergarten
teacher
here
at
St.
Josephs.
I
try
to
provide
my
students
with
a
warm
and
welcoming
environment
when
they
first
arrive
and
I
want
my
classroom
to
be
a
safe
place
where
they
feel
at-home
and
excited
to
learn.
To
do
this,
there
are
some
rules
that
need
to
be
put
in
place.
I
have
high
expectations
for
your
little
kindergarteners.
1. Treat
all
students
and
teachers
with
respect
and
kindness
2. Come
to
class
prepared
and
ready
to
learn
3. All
homework
should
be
completed
and
turned
in
the
day
its
due
4. Listen
to
directions
5. Be
a
good
friend
6. Be
creative
7. Enjoy
having
fun
I
try
to
make
my
classroom
as
fun
and
easy-going
as
possible
but
that
is
only
possible
with
these
rules.
The
students
will
be
rewarded
for
following
our
classroom
rules
and
will
be
expected
to
follow
them
both
inside
and
outside
the
classroom.
The
theme
for
this
year
is
Trains.
The
goal
is
to
keep
my
students
On
the
Right
Track.
It
does
not
matter
if
your
child
is
at
the
caboose
or
at
the
front
of
the
train;
every
car
is
necessary
for
the
train
to
be
complete.
Your
child
will
have
the
opportunity
to
be
Conductor
of
the
Week.
A
student
is
chosen
at
random
and
will
be
the
teachers
assistant
that
entire
week
and
at
the
end
of
the
week
will
make
a
presentation
about
himself/herself,
including
favorite
things
such
as
movies,
food,
books,
places
to
visit,
etc.
I
believe
that
it
is
very
important
for
parents
to
be
involved
in
their
childs
schooling,
especially
at
this
developmental
age.
Therefore,
parents/guardians
will
be
asked
to
help
out
on
occasion
with
Friday
centers,
field
trips,
and
school
activities/parties.
I
look
forward
to
meeting
you
and
your
child
and
cannot
wait
to
hop
aboard
this
year
of
learning!
If
you

St.

School
Introductory
Activity
On
the
first
day
of
school,
students
will
be
nervous
and
may
not
know
anyone
in
the
classroom.
In
order
to
have
the
students
learn
about
their
fellow
classmates,
we
will
play
a
game
to
introduce
each
other
and
the
theme
of
the
school
year.
Each
student
will
receive
a
cut
out
of
a
train
car
and
will
write
their
name
in
the
middle
of
it.
They
will
decorate
their
train
car
with
their
favorite
things.
After
everyone
has
finished
drawing
his
or
her
pictures,
each
student
one
by
one
alphabetically
will
present
their
train
car,
starting
with
the
student
who
has
the
engine
and
ending
with
the
student
who
has
the
caboose.
Once
students
present,
they
will
line
up
in
the
front
of
the
classroom
so
by
the
time
everyone
has
presented
we
will
have
created
a
full
train
and
will
have
learned
something
about
everyone.

Reward Club
The
Reward
Club
I
have
set
up
is
for
students
who
are
excelling
in
their
schoolwork
and
have
reached
the
Conductor
Car
on
the
incentive
board.
Once
a
student
has
reached
the
front
of
the
train,
they
will
receive
a
passport
so
they
can
become
a
World
Traveler.
The
passport
allows
them
to
receive
special
privileges,
such
as
free
reading
time,
lunch
with
the
teacher,
and
a
movie
and
popcorn
day.

Expansion
Activity
Reading
Railroad:
A
reading
corner
will
be
set
up
in
the
classroom
for
students
who
have
free
time.
Door
Decoration:
The
door
will
be
decorated
like
a
train
going
into
a
tunnel
with
the
classroom
on
the
other
side
(seen
through
the
window).
This
makes
students
feel
as
if
they
are
leaving
the
rest
of
the
school
and
entering
a
place
of
learning.
Railroad
pathway:
A
railroad
track
made
out
of
tape
will
guide
students
along
the
flow
of
the
classroom.
It
begins
at
the
entrance
of
the
door
and
leads
into
the
coat
closet
and
then
to
the
area
where
they
will
place
their
folders
and
go
to
their
seats.
A
second
track
will
lead
students
to
different
stations.
This
allows
a
safe
environment
so
students
do
not
bump
into
each
other.
