Guide lines for implementation of CBCS in VR10 academic regulations

for the batch of students admitted in 2013-14 only.


1. VR10 academic regulations are based on Credit System.
2. As there is no flexibility given in the above regulations to the fast learning students to
take the courses in advance to concentrate on their project during the eighth
semester, it is proposed to introduce limited flexibility to the fast learning students in
taking the courses of 8th semester in advance along with the 7th semester courses
during 7th semester, in VR10 academic regulations.
3. Students having no back log subjects till 5th semester and CGPA 8 are only eligible
for the said flexibility and will be treated as fast learning students.
4. It is proposed to offer all the theory and laboratory courses excluding project work of
8th semester of BTech programme, in 7th semester along with the 7th semester courses as
advanced 8th
semester courses without affecting the prerequisite
condition. There is no minimum limit on the number of advanced courses that can be
taken by the fast learners in 7th semester.
5. The contact hours, internal assessment pattern, eligibility criteria to write semester
end examinations of advanced 8th semester courses and revaluation scheme will be
as per the VR 10 academic regulations. The registered advanced 8th semester
courses will be dealt separately as individual courses for the calculation of attendance
and internal marks for assessing the eligibility to write the semester end examinations
for these courses.
6. The academic calendar for this advanced 8th semester shall be prepared and
intimated to the students well in advance.
7. In case any fast learning student is detained in 7th semester for want of minimum
required attendance and internal marks, he will forfeit the eligibility to take the said
flexibility there after. However, he/she will be exempted from attending the regular 8 th
semester classes for the courses for which he/she has met the minimum required
attendance and internal marks criterion in the advanced 8th semester courses during
7th semester.
8. If the fast learning student attains the eligibility to write semester end examinations of
regular 7th semester and is detained in the advanced 8th semester course/s for want of
minimum required attendance and internal marks, he/she will attend the regular 8 th
semester classes of the course/s in which he/she is detained.
9. If any fast learning student fails in the course/s offered during the advanced 8 th
semester courses, he/she has to appear in the semester end examinations of regular
8th semester.
10. In order to become eligible to write the advanced 8th semester examinations, the
candidate has to fulfil the minimum attendance and marks requirements for appearing
the semester end examinations of 7th semester.
11. The performance of the fast learning student in the advanced 8 th semester courses will
be separately mentioned in the semester end grade card of 7th semester and will not
be taken into account for the calculation of the SGPA for that semester. The
performance of the student in the advanced 8th semester courses will be taken into
account for the calculation of SGPA in the 8th semester.
12. The fast learning student opting for the said flexibility will be considered for award of
the class on par with other regular students.
13. The choice of opting this flexibility is purely optional to the students.

1. VR14 academic regulations are based on credit system.
2. As there is no flexibility given in the above regulations to the fast learning students to
take the courses in advance to concentrate on their project during the eighth
semester, it is proposed to introduce limited flexibility to the students in taking the
courses of eighth semester in advance, in the present VR14 academic regulations.
3. Students, entering the nth semester with no back log courses and a CGPA 8 up to (n2)th semester, are only eligible to opt for this flexibility and will be treated as fast
learning students.
4. It is proposed to offer all the theory and laboratory courses excluding project work of
8th semester of B.Tech programme, during 5th, 6th and 7th semesters as advanced 8th
semester courses without affecting the prerequisite condition as given in VR14
regulations. Fast learning students can take additional courses from 8 th semester to a
maximum of 8 credits (maximum of two theory courses/ one theory and two lab
courses) in each of the 5th, 6th and 7th semesters along with the regular semester
courses as prescribed in the VR 14 regulations. There is no minimum limit on the
credits for taking advanced courses.
5. The contact hours, internal assessment pattern, eligibility criteria to write advanced
8th semester end examinations of all the theory and lab courses and revaluation
scheme will be as per the VR 14 academic regulations.
6. Departments shall prepare the list of 8th semester courses/labs offered in the 5th,6th
and 7th semesters as advanced 8th semester courses/labs and intimate the students
well in advance.
7. The advanced 8th semester courses/labs offered during 5th, 6th and 7th semesters will
be treated separately and the fast learning student has to meet minimum attendance
and marks requirement in individual courses as per the VR 14 regulations to become
eligible to appear in the advanced 8th semester end examinations.
8. In case any fast learning student fails in the advanced 8 th semester course(s)/lab(s)
offered in 5th, 6th and 7th semesters, he/she has to appear in the regular eighth
semester end examinations and forfeit the said flexibility from that semester onwards.
9. If any fast learning student is detained either in the advanced 8 th semester course(s)
offered during the 5th / 6th /7th semesters, or in the regular 5th/ 6th/7th semesters, he/she
will forfeit the option for said flexibility from that semester onwards. However, he/she
will be exempted from attending the regular 8th semester courses/labs for which
he/she has already got the eligibility of writing semester end examinations.
10. For the purpose of promotion to 7th semester, the credits of advanced 8th semester
courses/labs offered in 5th semester will not be counted.
11. The student opting for the said flexibility will be considered for award of the class on
par with other regular students.
12. The choice of opting this flexibility is purely optional to the students.

for the batch of students admitted from 2015-16 academic year onwards.
1. VR14 academic regulations are based on Credit System.
2. It is proposed to extend flexibility to the fast learning students to take the courses in
advance to concentrate on their placement activity/ project work etc., during the
seventh/eighth semesters.

3. Students, entering the nth semester with no back log courses and a CGPA 8 up to (n2)th semester, are only eligible to opt for this flexibility and will be treated as fast
learning students.
4. In the proposed CBCS, fast learning students are given flexibility in taking some of the
courses in advance as per their convenience. Fast learning students can take
additional courses from higher semesters to a maximum of 8 credits ( maximum of two
theory courses/ one theory and two lab courses) in each of the semesters from 3 rd
semester on wards along with the regular semester courses as prescribed in the VR
14 regulations. There is no minimum limit on the credits for taking additional courses.
5. Fast learning students may register for the additional courses choosing from the
higher even semesters of the programme, if they are in the even semester. Similarly
they can register for the additional courses choosing from the higher odd semesters of
the programme, if they are in the odd semester. However, students may register for
the additional courses from 8th semester when they are in the 7th semester.
6. The contact hours, internal assessment pattern, eligibility criteria to write semester
end examinations and revaluation scheme for these additional courses will be as per
the VR 14 academic regulations. The registered additional courses will be dealt
separately as individual courses for the calculation of attendance and internal marks
for assessing the eligibility to write the semester end examinations for these courses.
7. In case the fast learning student fails either in the semester end examinations of the
registered additional course(s) or in the regular semester course(s) in a particular
semester, he/she will forfeit the eligibility for registering additional courses from that
semester onwards. However, the additional courses completed by the student in the
earlier semesters will be valid and taken into consideration. The fast learners can write
the semester end examinations for additional courses in which they failed, along with
regular students in the corresponding semesters only.
8. a)In case the fast learning student is detained for want of minimum specified
attendance and internal marks criterion either in the regular semester or in the
additional courses, he will forfeit the eligibility for registering additional courses from
that semester onwards. However, the additional courses completed by the students in
the earlier semesters will be valid and taken into consideration.
b) In case the fast learning student is detained for want of minimum specified attendance
and internal marks criterion in the regular semester but meets minimum specified
attendance and internal marks criterion in the registered additional courses, he/she shall
write the semester end examinations for these additional courses along with the regular
students in the corresponding semester only.
9. Criterion for the promotion to higher semesters will be as per the VR14 regulations
taking only the regular semester courses into consideration for the fast learning
students.
10. Minimum number of students registered for an additional course shall be one third of
the total class strength. In case the registered strength for the additional course is less
than one third of the class strength, the course may be offered on the
recommendation of the HOD and subsequent approval of the head of the institution.
11. Additional courses, in which the fast learning student fails, will not be taken as
backlogs for them.
12. The additional courses shall be offered by the respective departments subject to
availability of the faculty.
13. The list of additional courses offered in the even and odd semesters, registration and
withdrawal dates will be notified by the respective departments a priori.
14. The performance of the student in the registered additional courses will be separately
mentioned in the semester end grade card and will not be taken into account for the

calculation of the SGPA for that semester. The performance of the student in the
registered additional courses will be taken into account in the corresponding
semesters.
15. Fast learning students shall register for all the courses of a regular semester excluding
the courses completed in the previous semesters.
16. The student opting for the said flexibility will be considered for award of the class on
par with other regular students.
17. The choice of opting this flexibility is purely optional to the students.
