THAI BINH HAM RONG GAS DISTRIBUTION AND GATHERING

SYSTEM PROJECT, BLOCK 102 & 106 PHASE 1
TURN DOWN RATIO STUDY REPORT

1.0

INTRODUCTION

1.1

PROJECT DISCRIPTION
Thai Binh gas field was discovered in 2006 through Thai Binh-1X exploration well which
discovered gas accumulation in two separate sand packages of Middle Miocene U220 (4
distinctly separate intervals, interval 1 to 4) and Lower Miocene U250 (2 distinctly separate
intervals, interval 5 and 6). Total Thai Binh Gas Initially In Place (TB GIIP) of 139.8 Bscf
was approved in Thai Binh - Reserves Assessment Report (RAR) 2010. However, due to the
lack of evidence on the fault seal between the main area with the northern portion of interval
5, an upside potential of 30 Bscf remains to be unlocked during development phase. Thai
Binh field development will focus mainly on the central area with a proven connected
volume of 97Bscf in interval 3 and 5. In the event the northern portion is found to be
isolated by a sealing fault, an additional long reach well might be required in the 11th year
to sustain the 20 mmscfd required gas sale volume.
Thai Binh development plan consists of a Wellhead platform (WHP) with minimum
facilities. The gas will be sold ex-platform as full well stream (FWS) to shore via a 25 km
pipeline. Thai Binh development is expected to deliver its peak gas production of 20
mmscfd from 2 wells. Individual well capacity can deliver the gas production up to 20
mmscfd. Thai Binh Field Development can be summarized as follows:
-

To commit with Gas Sale Agreement (GSA) of 20 mmscfd for a period of 8 + 2

years on a commercially acceptable gas price.

To drill 2 wells to develop 74 Bscf of gas recovery from main sand of Miocene
reservoirs (interval 3 & 5), and to prove up the northern area connectivity of 30 Bscf
in interval 5.

Installation of a 3 legged well head platform with 4 slots.

Minor reservoirs to be developed later as behind casing opportunities i.e. add

perforation or through infill drilling

Petro Vietnam Gas Joint Stock Corporation (PVGas) is responsible for the development of
Thai Binh - Ham Rong Gas Distribution and Gathering System Project to transport gas from
Ham Rong field (Block 106), Thai Binh field (Block 102) and Other fields (Hong Long,
Sapa Nam, Hong Ha- Block 103 & 107) to industrial zones in Thai Binh and neighboring
provinces in the North of Vietnam.
Phase 1 of the Project includes facilities on Thai Binh Platform, Gas Distribution Center
(GDC) and gas transport pipeline connecting Thai Binh field to GDC as followings:
-

Platform topside facilities include Pig launcher and Corrosion Inhibitor skid.

Spool is installed for connections from Ham Rong field, other fields

Tie-in point for LNG exports FPSO in the future.

SYSTEM PROJECT, BLOCK 102 & 106 PHASE 1
TURN DOWN RATIO STUDY REPORT

The pipeline from Thai Binh Platform to GDC shall be designed with additional
capacity to service other platforms 106, 103 & 107. It shall include:
Approximately 13.1 km from TBDP-A to LFP at Con Thu
islet.
Approximately 5.28 km from LFP to LFS.
Approximately 5.8 km from LFS to onshore GDC.

In Tien Hai GDC, the 3 phase separator and filter/separator will be expected to install in
order to separate water, flit solid object, take condensate and sale gas. Condensates will be
stored and send out by truck loading system. Sales gas will be supplied to industrial
customers via pipeline or by CNG trailers.
According to the approved Field Development Plan (FDP), the First gas schedule is targeted
on 15th June 2014. However, the above schedule will be updated according to the First gas
schedule of Petronas Overseas SDN. BHD (PCOSB), expected to complete on Q2, 2015

Notes:
General recommendation:
The minimum flowrate of Pumps & Valves is shown based on the worst simulation cases at
continuous condition.
The maximum flowrate is calculated in on-specification condition in worst case such that
covering system.
Selection Requied Valves Cv as well as Opening follow catalog Fishers Valve. (See
detailed in Appendix 2)
Selection Requied Electric Heaters duty follow catalog Vulcanics Vendor (Thyristor) and
Chromalox. (See detailed in Appendix 3)
The controlling concept will base on actual condition to have corrected suitable pump duty
as well as opening percent of valve to ensure consistency and stabilization processing
operating.
These information shown on table as referency and the Selection Requied Cv & Opening
percent of Valves will be finally confirmed and advise by Valve Vendor.
Recommendation for valves LCV-420A/B (*):
LCV-420A:
In case of flowrate at 15 m3/h (maximum) and turndown flowrate at 0.11 m3/h required
large range of valve opening. Therefor, consider to install a LCV line for normal operation
case.
LCV-420B:
In case of volume flowrate at turndown condition is reducing more than max fowrate. The
operator will supervised and considered valves opening percent suitable with actual
condition to maintain gas / condensated level is consistency at NLL.
About the range of valve opening level (%) will be clarified after had Vendors supply
confirmed.
Recommendation for valves LCV-413A (*):
This valve will be operated at on-off stated corresponding with LAH-NLL (0.36 m3) in 15
minutes. The flowrate is used to size for this valve of 1.44 m3/h and will be confirmed by
Valve Vendor when LP Separators dimension be available.
Recommendation for Heater H-401 (**):
The range of electric heater duty (%) will be clarified after had Vendors supply confirmed

Recommendation for Pumps P-401A/B (***):

Pump will operator at continuous condition to always maintain fluid to temperature
exchange with condensate fluid. In case of turn down, the flowrate will be reducing
appreciable. Considering install a bypass line with a LCV / globe valve to adjust back flow
based on liquid arrival during operation modes to Heat exchange equipment to ensure
steadily operating process.

DATA SHEET FOR POWER CONTROL PANEL

TEMPERATURE REGULATION DEVICE CARRIED OUT BY :

Heater power will be controlled to achieve a preset outlet temperature.

In Remote - Electrical power controlled by hardwired, proportional 4-20mA control signal with remote
set point from DCS.
In Local Power to the heater would be controlled from panel mounted potentiometer with manual set
point adjustment.

POWER CONTROL DESCRIPTION :

Power control:
Power fed to the heater would be modulated from 1% to 100% as controlled by the 4-20mA control
signal. Power regulation would achieved by thyristor ..

Power control device :

The heater will be fully Thyristor controlled as follows:o

o
o
o
o

Thyristor

The thyristor will be provided with high-speed fuse protection, and will have the following
specification:o
o

Rev

1% - 100%

Rated at 849 Amps

Control technique: Burst or Single cycle zero crossover firing.
The thyristors are cycled on for a period, and then off. By varying the length of the on period
relative to the off period the power to the load may be controlled.
Thyristor to modulate power in two of the three phases.
Total Harmonic Distortion < 5%.
Single Harmonic < 3%.
Thyristor failure to include.
Fuse failure.
Over temperature detection on thyristors
