7 the Science Camp

by Angela Rebecca I. Flestado

Reach the stars, discover and invent

new stuff. That's what a young scientist
does to improve his skills to be a great
scientist.
E v e r y y e a r, the Science
Department holds the “Science Camp”.
Conducted by the Science teachers of
different levels, the two-day activity filled
event is very much enjoyed by the
students who are grouped under the
names of scientists. Here, games such as
the Sci-mazing Race, Science Bingo, and
other activities based on real scientific
concepts are conducted.
“These activities allow the students
to conduct experiments that require the
use of real scientific concepts,” Mrs.
Charmaine N. Ramos, former Science
Coordinator, quipped. “They can't do it
in the classroom due to lack of time and
resources. Here, they can use other
materials that are not found in the lab.”
Anna Josefina de Ramos said, “The
Science Camp is very educational, fun,
and definitely helps develop our skills in
science.”
Yearly, the Science camp is truly an
event that every Augustinian Scientist
looks forward to. For them, it is an
experience of discovery and an overnight
fun with a myriad of scientific
possibilities.

The great outdoors… The cool air around… The cold water…
Tents set up outside… The warmth of a mother's touch…! These could
only mean one thing: It's time for the Mother-Daughter Camping.
Every year, the Star Scouts and the Girl Scouts bond together
with their Moms through the Mother-Daughter Camping; an activity that
brings our young lady scouts and their mothers on a camp-out, usually at
a mountain in the cold month of January. Here, different physical
activities such as relays and fear-factor like contests are held to develop
the total scout – able in all aspects - whether physically, mentally, and
spiritually as well as socially. Here the young scout is given opportunity
to learn first-hand the lessons of nature and nurture along with their
loving Moms.
Supervised by the club moderators who act as facilitators, the
participants are divided into groups with assigned colors. Throughout
the camping period, these groups vie against and with each other in a
healthy camaraderie of sports and competition. Here, spirits are
tempered and values are tested.
On the serious side, great responsibility lies on the shoulders of
the mothers who must sustain the passions of their young while making
sure that they adhere to the very morals that they preach to their
children, both in reaching for victory and in accepting defeat.
However, in the lighter side of it all – the activity also seeks for
each mother-daughter to experience a refreshing kind of bonding and
alone time with each other in this all girl affair.
The bond between the mothers and their daughters is truly
strengthened by the camping experience. Teamwork, Social
Responsibility, and a clear sense of Identity are developed in this
simulation of life in the great outdoors. CSA's incomparable lady scouts,
which include Miss Sophie Cerezo, Miss Vilma Cortez, and Miss JoRuiz
among others, spearhead this yearly event.

Augustinian Family Sportsfest

A rainbow of colors flooded the Covered Courts as hundreds of bodies
moved around - preparing for the big event. Kids and parents alike waited in
anticipation for the action to start. Yes, it's the Augustinian Family
Sportsfest!
All grade levels participate in this Olympiad-like event held every year
wherein students and their families are encouraged to join, clad in their class
section’s distinguished color. The lower graders (Grades 1 to 4) order special
shirts while the upper graders (Grades 5-7) wear their Intramurals t-shirt.
For this event, participating family members who join to support their children
are enjoined to don the same hue – a symbolism for unity and the strength
that it brings along.
Starting with a parade of numbers, class-made posters and an
invocation, the whole event is kicked off by a series of warm-up exercises that
break into a whirl of games that keep the competitive juices of each
participant flowing. Relays and other kid appropriate games are in store for
the lower graders pitting the sections against each other while for the upper
graders, the activities focus mainly on sports such as Basketball and
Volleyball.
The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners are awarded at the end of
competitions. Special awards, such as the Best Cheer and the Best in
Behavior, are also given. All these transpire before the singing of the CSA Pep
Song which signals the end of another Augustinian trademark event.
The Augustinian Family Sportsfest is one way of bonding with one's
family and classmates. Amidst the fun and excitement are unity and
teamwork. We learn how to work together. We understand each other. In
addition, the Sportsfest also develops a sense of sportsmanship – humble in
victory and gracious in defeat. All in all, the Sportsfest is one fun
event a true Augustinian wouldn't want to
miss.

Convocation
Club Recognition
Pupils flock to the theater to watch the
performances and witness the
accolades being given to deserving
students on these events, but do we
really know what is truly going on?

Every quarter - a Convocation:
Every year - the Club Recognition.

Both events have the same

format, starting with the invocations,
then proceed to the performances -
which showcase the versatility of
Augustinian talents, and finally peak
with the awarding. Here, parents get to
come up the stage and receive the Eagle
certificates along with their child.
Of course, the celebration does
not truly end without some words of
inspiration from our beloved principal,
Fr. Horacio R. Rodriguez, OSA,.
Convocations honor the
students with Outstanding and
Exemplary in Conduct awards – a
prompt recognition of the hard work
that the students put into their studies.
Club recognitions honor those
who have excelled in their Wednesday
and Thursday groups, awarding those
who become the best in their respective
clubs both academic and religious.
Convocations and club
recognitions seek to encourage the
students to excel and aim higher. They
intend to inspire students to study
harder. They aim to show that hard
work does pay off.
So, soar high, Augustinians! Aim
for the skies and realize your dreams!

Batch Party by Margaret Yolo

Batch Party. The event all 7th graders anxiously wait for all
year through amidst harsh months of studying and grueling
deadlines. Finally - on March 20, 2009 - the wait was over. The
décor was perfect, the food - delicious, and even the students
looked great. Everyone obviously prepared for the event. The
party was a baccalaureate celebration for the grade 7 students,
who successfully completed seven long years in the GS
Department. Everyone enjoyed dancing, eating and partying the
night away. In short, everyone had a great time.
A little while into the event, the 7th graders were asked to
thread the catwalk for the search of the “Best Dressed” winners for
both the male and female, which went to Khalil Ramos and Ji Seon
Hyun respectively. But the biggest winners of the evening were
inarguably the Batch King and Queen - Morgan Acol and Bianca
Purswani - who were practically “eye candies” of the night.
As the party ended, smiles of happiness radiated on every
wide-eyed 7th grader as the night whisked away.
