Brief Unit 6: Music Video

Song: Bros Wolf Alice

I have chosen the song bros by Wolf Alice, the songs lyrics are about friendship
and I think capturing this would be easy, for example I could display a friendship
between just two people meaning I will only need two actors, avoiding using
more than two will make it much easier to arrange times for acting. The music
video also changes speed and has moments where it goes quiet therefore I will
be able to develop a narrative around this.
Cast
I will need two actors to be in my music video, preferably two people of the same
gender so they can display more of a realistic friendship. I would prefer to cast
girls as they can show more of an intimate friendship and I can therefore create a
more emotional feel to my video. I will likely use people or at least one actor who
is a drama student to try and reduce the chance of the acting being too
unrealistic.
Costume
I will try to use colourful costumes in my production as Im trying to achieve a
positive theme to my music video as to convey friendship. However, for the
quiet, calmer part of the song I will try to manipulate my narrative so that I could
involve a sad scene (the two friends arguing) and make my actors wear duller
clothes. However, I will not be too strict on what my actors wear as I want the
actors to feel comfortable with being in my production. Although I will make sure
that my actors do not wear clothes that are concealing such as glasses or hats so
I can effectively capture their facial expressions and use this to convey emotions
within my production.
Genre and Target Audience
The genre of my song is alternative rock, the main audience for alternative rock
is teenagers. Therefore, I will need to keep this in mind for when I plan my
narrative and themes within my video.
Where it will be aired
My music video will most likely be uploaded to YouTube as this is where music
videos are officially uploaded, also YouTube has a large audience and will make it
easier for people to find it. My music video could also be aired on mtv as mtv
specialises in music videos and could be shown to people who are interested in
my production.
Format
The layout of my video will be mainly montage as I will be able to display the
passing of time more easily and organise the structure effectively. I will display
random scenes representing their friendship though in order to satisfy the

narrative I am trying to achieve I will need to arrange my footage so that the

structure follows my story.
Props and setting
In terms of props I will need to use objects that could help symbolise their
friendship for example I might use props such as rollerblades and headphones so
that I can have them both sharing things and having fun together, therefore
displaying a friendlier positive feel.
My setting will generally be in areas like parks, forests where I can have my
actors be shown in areas where they can go on adventures, and have fun
together. I also think that forests and parks are positive areas to use as they are
natural and remote, they are also areas that friends tend to go to, especially
teenagers; appealing to my target audience.
