World Ju Jitsu Federation style is Shorinji Kan, founded by

Soke Robert Clark. There is a great emphasis on complex


lockups and hold-downs, which I do not use in my style of
self-defense because it is impractical on the street. My
method is hit and run. However, there are other techniques
in Shorinji Kan style that are very useful to the Hapkidoist,
such as the throat grip, front chokes, face grip, and muscle
pinches. Also, the hip throws, shoulder throws and sweeps
of Shorinji Kan are based on grabs and punches, rather
than randori, as in Judo, so they are more effective to
learn for self-defense.
Ho Shin Sool
Breaking a front strangle
Step back, protect face
Hammerfist break his hand grip
Backfist to side head
or
Left hand protect face, righthand punch his stomach
Pulldown his elbow, reach in and turn his jaw to left
perform Koo
or
Step backward, uppercut his chin, grab his right wrist and

turn, taking into vertical armbar with gokyo.


Breaking a back strangle
Make room, right strike his groin, reach around waist and
hip throw.
or
Make room, right strike his stomach, reach around and
apply both hands to back of right shoulder for vertical
armbar shoulder lock.
or
Turn, punch his stomach, reach around his waist and hip
throw.
or
Turn, punch his stomach, gather his two arms crossed,
and hip throw.
Defense against kicks to the head while on ground
grab his left and kick out his leg.
or
grab his leg and roll your shoulder against his knee
knocking him backward.
or
hook is foot with your foot and kick out his leg
or
grab his left leg hook his right leg roll and throw him on his

face.
Mid lunge with knife
Step back and out, block and grab his right wrist, turn
hand, kick to stomach, and Boo Chae, then knee of elbow
and remove knife.
Arms out bear hug from rear.
Strike his hands, bend over and pull his leg out. Retaliate
with kicks, etc.

Strike his hands, pull one hand out to an armbar and
covert to a hammer lock.
Arms in
step forward, dropping right shoulder and shoulder throw

Front bear hug arms out
Strike ears, pull back on hair, and squeeze his cheeks/jaw,

Pull down on his elbow, drop to knee and throw over, then
punch and lockup.
Rear strangle with hand grab
Bring his hand to the front in a Sah position and throw
over, kneeling down, then gooseneck.

Reach up, grab his hands and turn palms toward ceiling,
applying pressure on thumbs, bend over and throw him
over the top.
Escape from Full and Half Nelson
Step to side, grab both knees and pull, lift spin and drop
him to floor.

Stomp left foot, turn and kneel down, throwing him over
back

Stamp his foot, pull his right arm in Sah position across

Straight Arm Lock


Right low punch
Left knifehand block to bicep, righthand grab wrist, turn to
enwrap elbow and hold wrist for standing armlock.

he double punches, right knifehand block to his left, grab
his rightarm, turn him out and enwrap his right elbow.
Shoulder Lock
Right low punch
Left low block and swivel, grab right shoulder with right
and enwrap right elbow with left, apply shoulderlock and
kick his face. Can also take him down to floor by applying
head or neck pressure.
Hip Throw
Right high punch
Evade to right, grab his arm, place arm around his waist,
dive in for hip throw.
or
Step to right outside his left toe, grab his punching arm by
triceps, rightarm around his waist and dive in for hip throw.
Hip Throw with Shoulder Arm Lock

Right high punch


Block and grab his right arm, turn into a hip throw and
keep holding his arm in an armlock.
Hip Throw with Cross Arm Lock
Right high punch
Block and grab his right arm, turn to hip throw, keep
locking onto arm and fall back into lying armlock.

Four Throws Resulting in Armlocks


Righthand high smack with stick
Block with left, punch ribs with right
Reach up and grab his arm and elbow into a Hye Jun lock,
bring him down and step on his hand.

Righthand high smack with stick
Step outside of attack, grab wrist and smack jaw, apply
gooseneck and force it into his throat, take him down
backwards.
or
Righthand high strike with short stick
Upward rising block with right, punch ribs, reach up and
apply Hye Jun lock and bring straight back down.

Two hands punching

Grab one hand with right, turn and grab other hand with
left, cross his elbows, throw him over hip.
Shoulder Arm Lock
Double high wild punch
Block with both hands while moving forward, enwrap right
arm into lock with left, and righthand grip his throat.
Double high wild punch from behind
Turn and block, grab right wrist, backfist his temple, wrap
rightarm around his other arm pressing against elbow, and
righthand push upwards against chin.
Six Wristlocks
Push and punch
Step back and grab his pushing hand on chest, block his
punching hand
push his wrist down towards stomach and grab back of
arm in an inverted gooseneck. Then grab arm for a Sam
shoulder throw.

Righthand Chest grab
Step back and grab hand, turning it over gokyo
step foward and apply pressure to back of shoulder,
maintaining gokyo.

Rigththand chest grab


Righthand smack him, grab his hand, turn his arm over
elbow up and kick in face. Then put his face to knee with
shoulder pressure, or take down to floor as in Guet Nool.

Right wrist grab
Step back, turn hand over, kick to face, maintain gokyo.

Double wrist grab
Kick stomach, reach over to right and apply Boo Chae.

Left high punch
Block with right, grab right arm into straight Hye Jun
Wrist Throw with Lock
Double wild punch
Block left with right, double hand grab his right into Boo
Chae, apply knee to elbow gooseneck

Reclining Leg Throw with Strike (Requires dropping to


ground and attacking legs)

Body Drop
He charges arms extended
Grab his right biceps with left, left triceps with right, turn
him, dive in for throw over hip or extended thigh, lockup.
Half Shoulder
Right high punch
Cross block, backfist to ribs, dive in with lock against
elbow aka Sam for shoulder throw.
Leg Throw with Lock
Kong Kyuk Sip. Block his punch, drop down and pull his
ankle out while pushing on top of thigh, then lockup leg.
Dropping Version of a Full Shoulder
Drop to knee for the shoulder through, as in Master
Grissom's Second Dan syllabus.
Back Hammerlock
Right high punch,
Downward block, rotate his elbow around his back, finish
by turning jaw and head.
Crab Claw Scissor Throw, requires dropping to ground.

Offensive Sweeping Loin


Grab his shoulder, knee to his stomach, turn and sweep
his legs out, then lockup
Defending Sweeping Loin
Double grab at chest
Step back, grab shoulders, block head, kick leg, dive in
with leg outstretched and sweep him.
Cross Hock Throw
Right high punch
Block and grab with left, right to his left shoulder, step in
and heel kick his spine, sweep backwards and drop him.
Lockup.
Drawing Ankle
Double push at chest
Left foot foward, grab his two triceps and turn like heaven
and earth, throw against his ankle pulling forward, lockup.
Inside Hock Throw
High right punch
Knifehand to biceps and grab wrist and strike throat and
grab shoulder, leg behind his and push backward. Kick

groin and stamp on throat.

Stamp Throw
He tries to grab upper body
Step in and turn, stamp to his right foot and throw over hip.

Knee Wheel
Right high punch
Block with left, grab, step across and kick out side of his
knee
Variations on Shoulder Throws
He grabs jacket with left and punches high with right
Block his right, grab and bring down and through across to
opposite side, and execute Sam across left shoulder.
or
He grabs with righthand and punches with left
Block and grab left, swing down to opposite side and Sam
across right shoulder.
or
Right high punch
Step to evade, grab right wrist, grab his upper lapel and
come in for shoulder throw.

Double high punch
Block and grab, twist his arms and come in for double arm

Sweeping Half Shoulder Throw
Right high punch
Block and grab with left, step in with arm extended through
his underarm, enwrap elbow and throw using leg sweep.

Rice Bale Throw, a sacrifice throw


Right high punch
Block with left, reach up and grab from behind head,
locking up at same time, sit back and throw overhead. A
guillotine with arm entrapped.
