ALYAF geotextiles through the functions of separation, filtration, reinforcement and transmissivity help in: "Maintaining the integrity and the functioning quality of the structural layers. ™ Allow the use of free draining base course materials. "Distribute load over a wider area thereby increasing the bearing capacity of subgrades. ™ Permit cost-effective construction over weak soils and saturated subgrades. ™ Increase the pavement life. ‘The greatest benefit of ALYAF geotextiles in road pavements has been as a separator between the base ‘course or subbase and subgrade. In the absence of ALYAF, inlermixing of the base and subgrade occur under the influence of trafic loading and the pumping of fines from the subgrade into the base course. This contamination of the base course aggregate causes a net reduction of ‘base course thickness and weakening of that layer. With ALYAF geotextile acting as a separation layer at the interface of the sulagrade and the base course, the subbase/base course is completely separated from the ‘subgrade soll fines, therefore the designed base course thickness and its properties are maintained throughout the life ofthe project. WITH ALYAF WITHOUT ALYAF Construction Over Saturated Subgrade: Drainage of water from pavements has always been an important ‘consideration in road design; however current methods of design have resulted in base courses that do not drain well. The problem hhas been compounded with the rise in the water table. Water rises up into the base course through pore water pressures and through capillary function leading to saturation of the base courses. Saturation of the base course changes the dynamics of vertical stress distribution, and may allow transfer of traffic loads directly to ‘subgrade soil, eliminating the benefits of the structural layers leading to rapid pavement damage. To adequately address ground water drainage the designer needs to ‘consider providing ALYAF geotextile enclosed subsoil drainage systems (blanket drains) that will lead the ground water away from the pavement structure layers and also prevent the capillary rise of the ‘ground water into the structural layers. Pipeline Stabilization and buoyancy protection: Solid pipelines when laid over areas having a shallow ground water table; need stabilization from the buoyancy forces of the water table especially when the pipelines are empty. Stabilization of such pipelines is effectively performed by placing the pipelines inside a bed of uniform size gravel and then wrapping the gravel with appropriate ALYAF geotexties Further a very cost effective and proven solution to provide stable foundation and gradient to pipelines passing over weak areas is by enclosing the foundation aggregates by @ layer of ALYAF geotextiles. le ALYAF GEOTEXTILES- ENGINEERED FABRIC SOLUTION HYDRAULIC APPLICATION Porous SPORT SURFACE SEaeG 3 ns ALYAF geotextiles are primarily used as filters having replaced the traditional graded aggregate systems. The critical geotextile properties to be Afine pore size, to retain soil fines © High permeability to allow unimpeded waterflow High porosity, to prevent clogging "© Good puncture resistance and tensile strength to survive loads DRAINAGE: Uncontrolled and unchannelled water can damage pavements, undermine bullding foundations and cause slopes to fall. Drainage systems with ALYAF geotextiles provide excellent cost-effective solutions for controlled drainage of surface and ground water. The excellent fitration capacity of ALYAF geotextiles makes them an excellent choice as fiters to allow an unimpeded long term flow of water across them while preventing sol migration. They serve as: ‘* Protection layer for geomembranes from puncture damage ALYAF GEOTEXTILES- ENGINEERED FABRIC SOLUTION LANDSCAPING WITH ALYAF WITHOUT ALYAF CAPILLARY RISE OF WATER Terrains across the Middle East are exposed to extremely hot and arid climates that result in greater evaporation than precipitation. Evaporation draws saline water to the surface from the water table below in a continually rising process generally referred to as "Capillary Suction" At the surface the water evaporates leaving behind the salt content ‘The presence of saline contents in these soils hampers healthy vegetative growth. One of the most cost effective and proven methods of controling the capillary rise of saline water is by introducing a capillary break betw subgrade and the topsoil. The capillary break consists of a coarse granular layer and a layer of ALYAF geotextile, nthe Hardscaping: Interlocking blocks provide an aesthetic and practical mode for surfacing walkways and their use and been growing rapidly throughout the world demonstrating their usefulness. In order to ensure long-term stability it is important that a stable drainable base is provided underneath the blocks. This is done by use of gravel bed and a layer of ALYAF nonwoven geotextiles over the gravel bed. ALYAF will prevent the migration of sand fines from the overlying sand layer, while the permeability of ALYAF ensures an unimpeded flow of water into the drainage media, ALYAF GEOTEXTILES ENGINEERED FABRIC SOLUTION SLOPE PROTECTION ‘The ALFWEB system is an engineered cellular confinement system made from altemate linking of semi-rigid panels of needle-punched chemically bonded ALYAF nonwovens to form an expandable, three dimensional cellular structure, The system is utilized in the areas of slope protection, channel protection, load support and earth retention structures.
