Challenge 1:
Stormwater
management

The cloud burst in 2014

caused extensive flooding in apartments and basements in the city of
Malm. Cloudbursts like the one in
2014 is expected to come more often
due to the climatic changes and cities
need to be resilient to heavy rainfall.
In order to cope with this problem the
municipality and the private property
owners in Malm are interested in
finding solutions that help avoid flooding in citizens homes.

Challenge 2:
Multi-functionality
of green areas and parks

The city needs to cope with

upcoming/potential flooding. One
solution is to use existing open spaces
and green areas to handle the water
during time of flooding. To create additional value for the citizens of Malm
these areas can be used for other
purposes when not flooded. How can
the city recreate the open spaces and
green areas to adapt the city of Malm
for the expected floods while at the
same time generate social values and
new uses for citizens?

Challenge 3:
Co-use of
empty premises

In the city, many facilities

are not used full time. Some might be
leased but used by a business that is
only on sight occasionally. This may
work in some cases, for example in leisure facilities (facilities that are not used
for commercial activities). At the same
time, there are businesses, associations
and others who find it difficult to find
meeting places, because they cannot afford a monthly rent. How can an attractive customer-friendly model for how
these supplementary housing facilities
to be used jointly be developed?
